Official Amsterdam/Netherlands Questions Thread

just wondering what kinda music is played here?
Techno, minimal, techhouse, schranz/hardtechno.
Perhaps a bit of dubstep/deephouse, but the main styles are the above.

To be honest, AwakeFest (as it's colloquially called in Dutch) is not what it used to be. It is still one of the largest outdoor techno festivals of Europe, but the crowd is more and more of the friends-bringing-friends-bringing-friends type. So as sadly as it is, this means there is a lot less of the festival vibe, and a lot more of the drunken soccer teams and the like; always eager to start a bit of a fight if you happen to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time. It's not that there's a lot (if any) of agression, but it has definitely lost most of its magic. Belgium and Germany are the place to go for techno/minimal festivals if you ask me, different crowd there. :)

what about the solstice festival in june??

Spiritt base is happening in Austria...seems very nice with some excellent music...but then again no idea about how the vibe is over here..??

From what I've heard, the vibe was pretty amazing last year at Solstice. I just marked the date for this year's Solstice in my agenda, hope I'll be able to go. Also, we've been having extraordinarely good weather the last 10 days. Although this is no guarantee for the weather during Solstice, it definitely puts a positive perspective on things. =D

Thats awesome...great to know.. :D

I think Im gonna kickstart my holiday with Spirit Base in Vienna.....then take it easy for a couple of weeks and travel around....then finish my holiday with Solstice and head home!!!!!

Do the tickets get sold out quickly? Or I should be able to get them at the door?

Also...the location (Ruigoord) seems very near to amsterdm.....so Im assuming I wont have to camp or hire a campervan...I could just stay at a hotel in the city and make it to the festival on both days without hassle...?

Presale for Solstice started last week. I have no idea how long it will take before the festival is sold out, but since tickets are only € 27,50 (including campsite) I advise you to just buy them anyway. If by any chance you decide to skip the festival, you could always contact me and I probably will be able to sell the tickets for you. :)

Ruigoord is easily reached from Amsterdam, but a hotel will of course be more expensive than camping. Besides that, in my opinion you also miss out on a lot of the typical festival-vibe if you go home to sleep in your hotel and come back the next morning. In my opinion, you should just stay and experience it all.

I'm heading over for Queens Day weekend... been over a few times this year as my mate has moved to the city and have still not managed to source any decent pills. Tested one we bought off the street with marquis and no reaction (unsurprisingly!). Any tips?? Will it be easier this weekend as everyone is out to party?

Best tip ever: Never buy dope on the streets. It's fucking obvious people that sell shit will do so on the street; dealers that have the decency to give someone their mobile number or actually meet them at their own address, those are not the type of dealer to fuck their customers over. But those are also the kind of suppliers that are hard to find, especially if you are only coming over for a (long) weekend. Second best address is people that are actually rolling, they must have quality shit and it's highly unlikely they also carry around some B-grade stuff just in case someone wants to buy from them. Also, B-grade stuff is actually rare these days (in the Netherlands at least), the worst tablets are still 80-110 mgs.

Thanks for the info... we did ask a good few guys in the club who were obviously rolling however none of them had any spare.. they were very friendly to us though and a few guys said it's difficult to score as most people just take out enough for them self. One guy gave us a number for a guy we have used a few times and he delivers coke to our apartment which is handy but unfortunately he doesn't supply MDMA. Oh well, it's a start at least... the hunt continues.

tickets...visa...hotel..all sorted....cant wait to be there...solstice festival........ :)

i am from australia so dont need a visa for myself but my wife is indian ...and indian passport holders require a visa for entering most countries in the world..even as a tourist !

^ There are much less junkies in the Netherlands than in the other european countries, percentage wise. And the junkies that do exist are very well inserted and they live a very normal life.
