Hi all, I'm popping my post cherry so here goes..

I've searched around but I have some pretty specific questions I couldn't find answers for. Ok so I've been an Opie for about 5 or 6 years now and have built up a decent tolerance, anywhere from 100 - 120mg of oral oxy to get a good nod, 120-170 for FUBAR-mode, so I decided to try out IV to save money, and oh boy, its been amazing. Anyways, I've been IV'ing for a couple of months now and have always been very sterile, always using brand new rigs and all the propper sterilzation techniques and I'm always very aware of what I'm doing, but earlier today after I prepped everything (30mg roxy in 1.5 mL rig) and found a vein something odd happened, I selected a new spot on the inner forearm (Median Cubital vein), got the flash, jacked back and confirmed the vein, then started to depress the plunger slowly but then it started to hurt about halfway thru the hit, so I stopped, pulled out and finished in an old spot. But my question is what would cause it to hurt halfway thru, I had the needle in the vein, bevel facing up, rig towards heart, on a fresh vein.. What could I have done wrong ...? :\:!

First of all, welcome to bluelight :) Second of all, we don't use SWIM here, it doesn't protect you and just annoys people, so please edit your post to remove all SWIMming.

In answer to your question, I am not sure what would have caused that problem, hopefully someone more experienced with IV will be able to answer the question better than me.

lol ok I took off my bathing suit, no more swimming. Thanks for the quick reply, I've used Bluelight as an info source for quite awhile now so I decided it was time I joined and got in the discussions. but any input is really appreciated, thanks guys

You may have hit a valve, you may have slipped slightly and the needle popped through the vein to the other side, the needle might have been not quite in enough (enough to give you flash but with part of the bevel still outside the vein) or the vein might have collapsed or blown even if it looked like a good sized healthy one. Veins are fickle things! You did the right thing stopping as soon as it hurt and trying somewhere else. Sometimes IV shots just don't work and there is no apparent reason. If you try that vein again, go reeeeeally slowly and gently. If you have other good veins prob best to avoid it just in case.

Glad to hear you have a good IV technique :) only thing you didn't mention is a micron filter - if you aren't using one, take a look at this thread, tis extra important with pills :)

Apologies if you already are, you seem pretty clued up! It's nice to hear from a sensible, careful IV user :)

First of all thanks for being so generous, and yes I studied nursing in college...only guy in my class, 'twas great way to pick up chicks! lol. But yeah I thought about the things you mentioned but like I said I had never used that vein before, the median cubital. and there arent any apparent nerves near it so i dunno... and as far as the needle tip slipping out, I think thats maybe what happened, even though I'm using short bevel tips, thats what youre supposed to use for IV administration so, I guess I will just chalk it up to one of those weird finicky things of IV use. 8)

Side note: I opened this thread in general discussion for everyone and even though my original question was specific, please feel free to ask another or add any input if you'd like.:)

Oh and Effie, I have microns on order...til then its good 'ole cotton. I'm aware of cotton fever though and don't prefer to use it for a filter but it beats the alternative. snip

Glad to hear it DelRiO, microns are def the way forwards :)

Sometimes veins just don't behave themselves.. as you said, no obvious reason - maybe it was just one of those (frustrating) things!

A "virgin" median cubital vein should definitely be okay in theory, but everyone is different as I'm sure you are aware if you studied nursing! My antecubital fossa veins are pretty small and really deep, would be no use at all. I presume yours is okay though if you were going for it. Hopefully it was a random thing and you won't have the same trouble again; as I said, go slow and gentle if you do try that one again but I'd probably try not to use it if I could help it :)

I always say swimming and drugs are a bad, bad combination. I've seen so many people drown here.

Anyhow, to the point, I don't IV and never have, so take my advice for what it's worth: nothing. :) It may be that you injected some filler. Pills are a bad scene when it comes to injection, particularly if you aren't prepping with a micron filter. That's my guess anyhow.

Yeah it definitely was a 'virgin' but oh well, hope it enjoyed it because thats the only prick its ever gonna get! 8). Im prepping my bedtime hit right now as I type, its been soaking for about 30 min. , it should be good to go by now. And SPC, I know, I know, I always told myslef I could never poke myself with a needle but ya know, when it got to the point where it was costing me around 70-80$ to get off, it was time to do something different, and with my past knowledge of anatomy I figured what the hell ya know:p

just to give you a heads up, the quicker the drug crosses the blood brain barrier, the quicker tolerance will build up. also, there isn't really any advantage of injecting oxy, as the high fades rather quickly after around 45 mins or so. you may not notice it the first time you injected, since the experience was new and all, but the more you do it you'll start to notice that your oxy didn't have the "legs" it once had when you were just popping them.

also, as cost-wise goes, you don't really get any more out of it by injecting either. it's not like hydromorphone where there is a huge difference between IVing and other routes of administration.

might i suggest this in order to get the most out of your pills: give plugging a try. you will start to feel the high come-up in a matter of minutes, and you'll have waves of euphoria for around 4 hours after you dose, instead of only an hour or less. if you need any advice on plugging, i've explained the process in several of my threads if you do a search on my name, or you can just search bluelight in general and you'll find all the information you need as well.

btw welcome to BL

Thanks for the input Korn. First off let me say that yes you are correct about the high fading rather quickly as opposed to other ROA's , BUT, what I enjoy is the rush, I was hooked on percs and tabs for years and have just lost the interest in the drawn out high, and I only inject about once a week as to not build an IV tolerance too quickly. But anyways as I said, I enjoy the rush, and it keeps me from craving Percs which is a good thing. If I didn't inject once a week I would be feind'in for Tabs or Percs and end up blowing an assload of money like I used to. I have to say I've found a happy balance with my usage now, instead of spending 70 bucks a day for a buzz i can just spend 20 or so a week and be good to go. Ya feel me?

And as far as plugging goes I have done it with tabs a few times but wasn't too impressed, I used a 3mL syringe with warm water and crushed the pills and back loaded them, I skipped doing the CWE because I was only doing like one or two tabs at a time. Needless to say though, it wasn't what it was cracked up to be, BUT on the other hand now that you mention it I'm sure it'd be a whole different story when it comes to the Roxi 30's I'm doing now so I'm gonna give it another try, thanks for the idea and advice! =D

Lets keep this thread going guys, I have a feeling it can be a good one! :)

yeah you probably just slipped out or poked through..i hate when that happens especially with H, complete waste of a rush.

ya i'm not really sure how effective plugging is if there's a bunch of apap in your pills that you were trying to plug with, as those pills are also a lot bigger as well.

and you say you got a rush from percs? oxy isn't really one of those drugs that produces a rush IMO. if you haven't tried anything else, then some might refer to it as a "rush" but it's more of just continual onset over the next several minutes.

He's talking about IVing oxycodone. IV oxycodone produces a pretty intense rush....comparable to heroin IMO.

Hey man on the other thread you said youd take snorted H over IV oxy.....well i would take snorted oxy over snorted H, and DEFINITELY IV oxy over snorted H.....

Maybe I just like oxy / get more of an effect from it than you or somethin, but IV oxycodone has always been incredibly euphoric and produced a beautiful rush for me, like i said, comparable to heroin. obviously IV heroin is more euphoric and the rush is more intense, but IV oxycodone still packs a pretty powerful rush, especially when you IV like 100mg or more.

And this is coming from someone with extensive IV opiate experience - Heroin, Morphine, Oxycodone, Dilaudid, Fentanyl, Suboxone

Yeah I was referring to IV oxy, definitely not Percs, and Korn, well man to me it is a pretty damn good rush, starts in the back of my head then slowly flows through my body down to my toes with a nice warmth. And yes I see where you're coming from about the onset, after the initial rush. It does continue to build for a few minutes and usually plateaus around 10 minutes, for me at least. Regardless though, it does produce a rush for me and that my friend is why I'm prepping my afternoon hit right now lol, I seem to always be on here when I'm about to hit the rig...hmm.. something about this website and drugs...just cant quite put my finger on it 8)

Random thought here, but figured it was worth asking about: What amount of solution do you guys use on an average hit? .75mL, 1mL, 1.25mL etc... I personally use about 1.5mL to start with but during the preparation I usually lose some and the shot ends up to be around 1.25mL. Does anyone find the quantity of solution to be relevant to the effects of the hit? i.e. 'Less liquid=stronger, more liquid=weaker' and vice versa... ??? :?

From a purely pharmacodynamic (what the drug does to body) point of view it shouldn't make any difference as the drug is immediately diluted into the bloodstream - certainly by the time it reaches the brain the amount of water shouldn't have any effect. However, from a vein-health point of view, more water is generally better if the substance is at all irritant to veins.

I know that people's subjective experiences often don't match up to what pure science predicts they should though!

Thats pretty much the opinion I was leaning towards as well. But I did just figure something out, I tried it last night before my bedtime hit and just now to double check and I've found that after you powder the pill and add the solution, the longer you let it sit the more potent it seems to be. Now, excuse me if I sound like a complete dumbass and this is common knowledge but go easy on me guys I've only been IV'ing for a couple months now, I'm still learning a few little tricks here and there. But no, I usually get a gooood rush and about a 30 minute nod from a 30mg, but I only had a half of a 30 left for this afternoon sooooo I prepped it and let it soak for about 45 minutes and DAY-UM, if I didn't know any better I would've sworn it was a full 30.... I love finding out new things, especially when they work to my advantage =D=D=D
