Florida welfare recipients must pass drug test

It's typical of people to blame those worse off then themselves then the people who are really sucking up all the money and the very marrow from our bones which would be the very rich owners and politicians who control most of the wealth and with it our sorry asses. It's hard enough to get on welfare in the US and it's much harder to get on it there then say Canada and you get much less so why make it harder for people unfortunate enough to be on welfare? Do we look down upon and make laws against the few who control many? No sadly the method of keeping the proletarians fighting amongst each other seems to be working quite well :p

How anyone on BL or indeed any citizen who was not indoctrinated in capitalism and capitalism only (that leaves out most of America i know) could think this law is a good thing is beyond me :\

not everyone who receives assistance is "unfortunate". many are simply leeches, and those are the ones that ruin it for those who're truly in need. i have little issue with helping those who are genuinely in need, so long as they intend to fix their situation*, but 1 moocher for every 100 who need it gives a bad impression to those who don't need it / are paying for it (i have no idea what the leech:needy ratio is, just pulled the 1:100 outta my ass. presume it's a much higher ratio)
/*=i ONLY believe in aid for those who are trying to fix their needy situation. "Need" can happen to most ANYONE, given the right circumstances. that said, i do not support aid to anyone who has no plan besides continuing to get aid. if you just want to sit home all day and not contribute to society....well, it does pain me, but no- i do not think you have a right to others' food, or medical servies, or..ETC ETC

^ agreed, this world is a fucked up place. There are definitely people who abuse the system. There are people who legitimately need the help. However, when I see people who don't even need the welfare money continue to accept it, it makes me wonder why they don't become a little more strict. Not everyone is going to change with help, most have to want it.

I have just been burned many a time by people who are like the above. I'm not saying there isn't good in the world, I'm just saying that the bad has been made apparent to me.

In theory I like the idea. The problem I see though is the people this is going to catch will be marijuana users while missing the people on short detection time and people taking more of similar prescribed drugs.

How about noone except people who have jobs where being intoxicated could injure others then themselves get tested? Does that sound fair to everyone? Since welfare recipients don't do any jobs that require them being atleast somewhat straight then they would be excluded.

I don't believe in drug testing someone for a fucking office job as it makes no sense at all and neither does testing welfare recipients. A single person basically can't get welfare in the US or so i have been told by American people i know. Atleast here in Canada a single person can get welfare and thank fuck we do not have the same authoritarian measures that they are bringing in down south. Also unless you have a job that requires you to be somewhat sober or live in Alberta which is good old conservative country 8) then you generally won't get drug tested for a job. Why make it harder for people who are bad off enough to need welfare in the first place. It's the same stupid logic as drug testing people for a job in fucking mcdonalds.

For once just fucking once i would like to see people actually going after the real leeches who are sucking up all the capital instead of having poor people fight amongst themselves like they usually do. But that will never happen anytime soon maybe it's because it's worked so well in the past i guess lol 8)

Hopefully that old conservative cunt Harper won't get any ideas from the US. That's all we fucking need US style welfare system in Canada! It's bad enough that our health care system is going that way so it's not like we need anymore neo-conservative, bureaucratic capitalist bullshit up here.

I think the law is unconstitutional by the 4th amendment, but that doesn't mean that no parent receiving TANF lets their kids eat gruel while they smoke rock all day

really if they just limited it to cocaine on a case-by-case basis, it'd do the trick. The problem is that this issue became a Republican touchstone around the country, and voters began seeing it as some sort of economic panacea. It really isn't. You can drug-test every parent that receives TANF and nothing really would come of it. Every tax dollar collected before would continue to be collected (the kids aren't gonna magically disappear); you'd simply end up paying the grandparent instead of the parent.

Can't belive so many folk think this is a GOOD IDEA .

It's so flawed canabis stays in your Piss 4 30 days Crack 3 /4 . i could really get on one about this , but i'm just glad its not happening in the U.K cos i'm on Disability and i'm aDrug addict so i would be well fuked.

I think this is seriously fucked up. Although I agree in principle (the taxpayer shouldn't foot the bill for someone's fix), this is a very slippery slope. What's next? Drug testing to get SSI/disability? Way too much government intrusion into private life.

Yeah drug tests are a fucking joke. I could be out hitting the crack pipe all night and pass the next day while the poor fuck who smoked weed 2 weeks ago get's caught. Yet another reason these measures are absolute bullshit.

The only reason anyone thinks this is a good idea is because they have a hard time thinking for themselves so it's hard for them to understand simple logic.

Drug testing is unconstitutional, period. The solution is not more drug testing. Welfare recipients are no more likely to abuse drugs than anyone else, according to several studies, although they're often painted as lazy druggies. This sets a dangerous precedent for anyone seeking public assistance, be it a college grant/loan, Medicaid or anything else.

Meanwhile, children of drug-using (not necessarily addicted) parents will suffer most. Way to go, Florida.

I for one think this is probablly one of the smartest moves ever. Too many people spending gov't money to get their fix
this sort of legislation immensely increases the financial burden on the state and its taxpayers. which is empirically demonstrated. the only purpose of this law is to enforce a socially divisive "morality".

it's also simply inhumane and cruel, especially to those forced to get medicine from the black market because they do not have the financial means to go through walgreens.

i don't know what gives drugs their jaw-dropping ability to accumulate misinformation. as far as i can tell, like the silly myths about masturbation eg, it's ultimately just an (fiercely) anti-pleasure attitude.

They should bring this to the UK, i'm against drug testing people who get up off they asses and go to work. But if your gonna sit around not lifting a god damn finger, why should half my paycheck go towards buying you a new TV and a half ounce?

FUCK THAT. Love doing the occasional 50+ hour week only to have 35% of my cash blasting out my ass all over the 'unfortunate'

What about those lovely bureaucrats who not only produce nothing, take way more of your hard earned cash then all welfare recipients combined and oppress you at the same time? Should they not be drug tested as well?

Anyone who would want the authoritarian measures like they have in the US is nut's in my opinion.

because it significantly lowers your taxes. if you pay for the people dependent on drugs to receive their drugs, you wind up paying less (crime, corruption, black market, legal fees and the court system, the prison system) overall.

addicts need jobs just like the rest of us. let's not scapegoat the addicts themselves, especially on bluelight. let's also recognize that it's a medical issue, and cutting addicts' supply is not only inhumane, even to the point of disabling them from working (oops, i thought we were trying to help them contribute to society..) but also worsens their addiction (the real strong attachments and cravings to drugs occur/develop during withdrawal and post-withdrawal, for obvious reasons).

It's a difficult situation, here in Germany they had the idea of forbidding people on social security to buy alcohol and tobacco from their state money. That quickly got shot down, because once you start measures like that, where will you draw the line? Fast food or sugary drinks?
In effect you'd be creating second class citizens without full rights, which should not be acceptable in a democratic country.

The whole general drug testing craze in the USA is another topic entirely, wtf is there to gain if your employee performs admirably, even while under the influence or just using from time to time? If he/she doesn't put other people at risk, I just can't see any harm in it.

Btw, will those peps in Florida also be tested for alcohol and nicotine? After all, you can't have those lowlifes spend your hard earned tax dollars on drugs, can you? ;)

See your views would be more inline with your average person outside of the US. I don't know what it is about that despot of a country but they seem to love having people tell them what to do. The slippery slope thing is all too true and since obesity is a big problem costing the state countless dollars why not cut fat people off welfare? Why not make them get on a scale before collecting their check? Atleast the level of oppression would be equal then.

Once you let one authoritarian measure like this pass it goes to shit pretty fast.

It's really not that hard to get on welfare from what my friend was telling me. He told me one of his friend's parents knew how to work the welfare thing so they all got on it and had jobs getting paid under the table.
