Why Frank & Paul are wrong on drug legalization

ofc we should be satisfied with kids not doing something because its illegal! we cant upset big brother now can we? he is the voice of logic and should never be questioned

politicians arent just regular sheeple who make mistakes we all do and tend to herd together

thats a good question...because unless my geography is off, africa is a continent and not a subcontinent

the article is full of fail, but nobody has paid attention to the most outrageous claim in it:

As for the current drug policies curtailing personal freedom, the question is: "Whose freedom?" The drug dealers', sure -- the drug consumers, no.
As any parent with a child addicted to drugs will explain, as any visit to a drug rehab center will convey, those caught in the web of addiction are anything but free. And it is not because of their incarceration or rehabilitation, it is because of the vicious cycle of dependency, waste and brain damage addiction and abuse cause.

this is the war on drugs and reefer madness in a nutshell: the idea that drug users, as a class, are incapable of agency (agency: the capacity, condition, or state of acting or of exerting power).

I believe that some of the apologists for slavery used similar logic to defend the morality of holding a race of people captive.

Haha, it was the illegality that appealed to me, idiots telling me one spliff would send me schizo, then you find out its mostly lies.. At 11 years old i had much better access to weed, pills, even crack and smack than i did to alcohol. Tobaccos a different story, smoking age was 16 in the uk when i started and most corner shops didnt give a fuck anyway, but it was hard to get a drink at the age of 11 il tell you that. Easy to get high though

Reading the article now.. its a joke

'When those in the drug prevention community ask teens who don't use drugs why they don't, time and again, the answer comes back "because it's illegal." '
Or maybe they just wont admit to using drugs because its illegal.

this William J. Bennett character is a tiddlywink turd tosser!!!

"Or maybe they just wont admit to using drugs because its illegal." ^^ Exactly!

^damnit you two above me beat me to it lol I was going to point out exactly that. If illegalization had SUCH an impact on the choices that people made about useing, wouldn't it be safe to say that people would obviously LIE about ever using in the first place?

Starting with the basics, keeping drugs illegal is one of the best ways to keep drugs out of the hands -- and brains -- of children. We know three things here: First, children who don't use drugs continually tell us one of the reasons they don't is precisely because they are illegal.[/I]

Wrong. Keeping "legal" drugs like alcohol and tobacco behind the counter and requiring an ID makes them harder to obtain than "illegal" drugs, which can be purchased by anyone from a drug dealer. No ID required.

Studies also show that, in places like Amsterdam and Portugal where many drugs are legal to a degree, drug abuse and addiction are far lower than in the U.S. where prohibition rules.

Honest drug education combined with sensible drug policy is the best way to keep drugs out of the hands--and brains--of children.
