To stay away from the stuff, but its SO DAMN hard!! ive already been through the withdrawls and havnt taken any for awhile but the craving is just too much,i keep trembling.

I guess it comes down to the type of addiction you have. Once the physical pain subsides a lot of what draws you back is boredom. Particularly if you have been functioning under the influence of your drug of choice. It is easy to take your poison to clean the house or watch a movie or going out to the pub.

If you have an addictive personality try and direct it to a new healthier addiction like exercise or a hobby. The highs you get might not be as intense at the beginning but it helps to focus towards goals and reward yourself as you achieve them (hopefully not in drugs). Exercise is often the cheapest hobby to take up and one where you can set achievable goals. Using the frustration and negative energy against a boxing bag or long bike ride can sometimes buy you enough time to over come those cravings. Painting, writing, hell even knitting gives you something to concentrate and direct your thoughts towards. Use the money you are saving to buy yourself a gift or shout yourself a nice meal.

No one says it's easy and it is likely you will slip one or ten times before you are over the hump. Like Footscrazy said try The Dark Side for a sounding board of many other people who experience the same thoughts every day.

^ Good post there. It is hard, and the worst is the time you have to fill. I've filled it with studying and learning, which is also helping me achieve the goals I have for the future. It also helps to have at least one person you can go to at anytime to talk to about it, your support to help you when the desire to use gets really bad again.

Yeah it can be hard when you use your drug of choice in conjunction with another interest (as Busty said).

I really dont like watching movies or TV (like this weeks Game of Thrones!) without codeine. Dont like video games without stims. Dont like study without stims.

Can be harder to stay strong when the drug thing affects so many other areas.

^ That's a really good post, so true. For me especially with weed, there's so many things that are just more enjoyable while stoned like watching TV, listening to music, making music or even just having an interesting conversation over a nice smoke. The drug becomes not just the drug high itself but how it makes mundane tasks more enjoyable. Good luck OP with the battle man, I think exercise was probably the best suggestion especially if you're having trouble with opiates which it sounds like you are.

How good was GoT?!!!! One of the best HBO productions to date! =D

cherry candy, there's a pretty wide and supportive community here. If you need help or advice on staying clean then perhaps have a look over in The Dark Side forum as footscrazy and Busty suggested? The posters and mods there are absolute angels!

I wholeheartedly agree with Busty in that replacing your addiction with a healthier activity could serisouly turn your life around. Are there any sports, artforms, instruments etc that have ever appealed to you? Exercise and reading work well for me as I can't do either inebriated :)

i find having a routine is a really big start just making one up if a start. i try all sort of addictiove stuff to find out what it is like to get off it. i know weird but its science. any way the mind is powerful it just takes one different activity to overcome initial cravings. or just beat it by doing it on the weeknd. i know its un pc but it does work leaving the "fun times "to the weekend can make room for other activities in the week and you have something to look forward to. works for me.

That's the 'danger' of weed. I have a friend who I reguard as a pathetic loser cunt. He's been smoking weed every day and night for 2 years. That's his life. He spends it sitting in the bushes of a local park smoking. Day and night. Doesn't do anything else.

There's no way in hell he or anyone else could just sit in the bushes day and night for 2 years if you weren't on weed. Weed helps certain people become complete non fuctionioning dead beats. Eventually (but not necessarily) he may suddenly realise years have gone by and the only thing he's done with himself is sit in the fucking bushes of a local park.

You know how sometimes certain people are known as 'enablers' and looked upon with disdain. Well that's how I see weed for some people. Makes them pathetic individuals.

It really would help knowing what you are trying to quit and a bit more information about yourself and your problem. Some really good advice so far though. 

lol! what a sad boring fucker

hahaha.

Fuckin hell thats amusing. What is wrong with him? I know weed can have that sort of effect but seriously just sitting in the park all by yourself. I'd lose my shit.

Even on weed, if Im by myself, I need stimulation otherwise my mind eventually turns inward in a perpetual death cycle of soul-crushing self-analytic thought.

What state are you in?
Ring the drug and alcohol line they will help.
Try to get some meds like catapres, propranolol and maybe some bupe to taper down the WDs.
Repreve is also great its a dopamine agonist muscle relaxant used for RLS. It will help you sleep and help with the WDs symptoms.
Just tell the doctor you got RLS and you have had this medication before.
