Resin potency flucuation?

I've smoked a fair amount of resin in my time, always in dry times, but something that struck me is that when it has been smoked a bit the ash and burnt bits turn purple. Any res heads out there notice that? What do you reckon could cause it? scraping too closely in my pipe?

I hate the way the word 'pollen' is used in the cannabis world. It is very confusing to people ignorant of cannabis products in general (not a jibe at you chainer, just a generalization).

I think for the sake of harm reduction it would be great if someone could come up with a straightforward way to separate the tar and other crap from the useful cannabinoids because lets face it, people will end up smoking their pipe resin when they're low on weed. I'm sure it happens all the time, even if people are too ashamed to admit it.

I think I've might have even done it myself at the start of my smoking career.

Purple? I can see it turning blue since thats the color of a really hot flame, but I've never seen purple. Maybe it's reflecting off something in your piece?

Hmm, I guess this thread has made me rethink my very rare but possible resin-hitting, and I really hope no one ever offers to buy any from me. Even though I'm broke and would do it for the money, I probably wouldn't be able to sleep that night and my stoner karma would be real screwed. Even before reading this...people buy resin?! Really?! Hash is a totally different thing, I hope they know this before making a purchase..

Sadly people do try to buy it even though they know perfectly well what it is (mostly it's the 24/7 poly people who ask). However I should point out that the value has become insane and quality very unpredictable in my country. I won't talk prices as that's against the rules but if you consider shit that's not properly dried or has a ton of stems and leaves combined with high demand and greedy assholes who take full advantage of the fact that most smokers don't have scales, we get insane values. One time I even saw an actual tuned digital scale, didn't know that could be easily done. It took about 1/4 off the weight (edit: it added weight, poster was high ;)

On top of that I've been hearing about buds sprayed with all kinds of crap like glass and hairspray, even completely fake weed and in general the scene is dominated by greedy criminals. Most growers just like to focus on themselves and their friends, and I think that's perfectly natural. The government has failed to protect the health of a large group of people and when they try to care for themselves it's illegal, they can impose fines and take all your growing gear. Luckily our laws for personal use are not among the worst in the world but this system isn't sustainable.

That's some strong legislation when it can turn a harmless herb into something deadly in only 30-40 years. How will it be if we keep up the 'war' for another 10?

My proposed solution: Autoflowering plants that can survive the northern winter!

^ It's called the "tare" function, 95% of all cheap digital scales on ebay have the feature.

I think he means soapbar hash, not resin. This is a country lingo difference from what I can tell.

Also if you sold someone resin scrapings, you should go to hell.

Not tare, I mean if you were to measure 10g with that you would get 7.5g. Or 3.75g out of 5g and so forth. A cheating scale =)

Ah well in any case, that's been around in some form or another for as long as I can remember. I've known several people to tare their scale up before a sale.

You could just calibrate the scale to be a % off pretty easily as well, I don't understand why anyone would go out of their way to buy a scale that is constantly off, waste o' money.

I thought there was something off about what I wrote. It added weight, not reduced it. For cheating people who don't handle a lot of weed or own scales. Sorry, I'm stoned :P

I think the problem would be more for the person willing to purchase it, than the one willing to sell it. If someone is begging, it's not your fault. This has never happened to me, thankfully, in either direction.

I didn't spend much and my scale is consistently off so, guess that's always another route to go :|

God people can be so unkind :(

What can I tell ya AE? Stoners have very strong feelings towards resin most of the time, so from the get-go I assumed it could get a bit heated in here.

resin is always stronger than the bud itself that is all the cannaboids glands getting stuck together. resin ia also not very healthy for your lungs in large amounts.

I mean the dark residue left behind in a pipe. I meant after I smoke it, when I smoke resin it gets a purple hue on it like the colour on a coal. It doesn't burn purple.

This only happens during dry times.

If you find yourself buying scrapings please,... seek help.

reread what I wrote, I said that it doesn't burn purple, or any unusual colour for that matter. The burnt resin turns a royal purple colour after it goes out. Clearer?

Any resin smokers out there experience this? Or soapbar hash smokers? (Are they the same thing?)

No, they are not the same thing. "Resin" is used by US speakers to refer to the residue of cannabis smoke that can be scraped from the inside of a pipe. "Resin" is used by UK speakers to refer to low-grade, heavily adulterated hashish. This thread is about the former.

Judging by the posts, I started to have a feeling there was some regional slang in here we weren't all understanding. Nice to learn something new, though. :)
