hey guys

I just wanted some opinions about the relative safety of this long-term practice.

I am on bupe maintenance (about 1mg per day). I find nasal administration to be much faster and more convenient, but obviously it's not good to be snorting pills on a daily basis.

So, this is what I've been doing. I dissolve my Subutex pills in bacteriostatic water (contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol). I then pass this solution through a micron filter and store the resulting filtered solution in a sterile vial. I make it at a concentration of 1mg/ml. I then take my daily dose of bupe nasally by squirting this solution up my nose.

I was wondering if there could be any long-term damage I am doing by this practice. Perhaps the benzyl alcohol could be damaging my sinus cavaties or nasal passage over time? What do you guys think?

If you have the bacteriostatic water by abbott labs it should be 7 pH (the bacteriostatic NaCl has a 5 pH), I don't think the benzyl alcohol, at such a small percentage, is going to hurt your nose at all. However it is not like I know for sure, hopefully someone else can share what they know about this.

I've only used ethanol for this purpose in the past, in a higher percentage. For sublingual administration, I think ethyl alcohol works great. Any acid work work, I suspect. I'd like to try lemon juice. It will dry out your sinuses I'm sure, but it's relatively non-toxic. I'm not sure about benzyl alcohol either, but I'm thinking along the same lines as Captain.Heroin since the concentration is so low, it's probably harmless to your sinuses, lungs, and other organs. I've never heard of inhalation of small amounts of any kind of alcohol to be damaging.
