I am pretty new to the world of IVing and although my first few times went perfectly it is now becoming EXTREMELY frustrating to the point where I'm so frustrated I start rushing and I know that is a recipe for disaster.
I have good veins that naturally stick out which I consider myself lucky to have. My very first time was spot on. I've done lots of homework, research, and reading on the topic before trying and I executed it perfectly the first two times. After the first two though, I have had to stab myself like 5-6 times before hitting a vein.. and it sucks cause then I have all these holes and bruising for a few days.
My question is about the angle. I've heard conflicting reports. Some say be as parallel to your arm as possible but others say 45 degree angle? I don't remember exactly what I did my first time but this is getting ridiculous and I need some advice.
I am going for the vein in dead center of the crease of my elbow. I'm shooting towards the heart. When I go to pull the plunger though I get air. I'm also pushing the needle all the way in till it hits the hilt (again conflicting reports, some say do it some say don't). I thought I'd naturally figure it out eventually but I don't want to self mutilate anymore and would really appreciate any advice.
Thanks,
Pho
