I had a bad accident back in 2006-2007 around that time. My back has never been the same. After going through numerous medicines I found the one that seems to do the trick. That magic pill is a 5MG Percocet. I have been reading online lots of interesting articles about opiate addiction and what opiates do to the body.

I mean am I an addict if I am truly taking it for pain. I am not going to lie, I enjoy the buzz but it does take the pain away none the less. its as easy as back pain here, take this pill back pain gone.

My dosage is 1 5MG pill a day. Usually towards the end of the day. Sometimes I can go a week sometimes a months, for example I haven't taken any pills from January till last month when I've taken 1 a day for the past 3 weeks.

Ill then chill and sometimes just take the pain when ever I start to think about the whole addiction part of it.

I read on here peeps popping 30-60MG which would probably make me OD but I understand we all have our tolerance.

Am I just over reacting a say fuck it and take it when ever I have the pain? Or should I still practice moderation and only take when the pain is unbearable. Recreation wise my drug of choice is just plain ole marijuana. Usually smoke one blunt a day as well. Haven't really smoked in about 2 weeks though cause of work I'm training for another position.

Just wondering your thoughts folks..

Keep doing what you are doing, try not to take them daily cause once you do it looses it magic. I take up to 12 of those a day and sometimes take a week off but its not fun going through withdrawal I replace with tramadol although I still suffer. But then I can go back to taking it at much lower doses but not for long. Same ole same ole every month go though my script in 3 weeks and suck it up for a week. Not fun I too take them for pain I have Rheumatioid Arthritis and Lupus. Bad discs in my neck. I like the buzz but after a while you won't get that anymore unless you take more and its a endless cycle of tolerance. Stay where you are now unless you have no other choice as I do not. Its not much fun when you have no choice.

Hey there, man. Just to inform you, this is not other drugs material really. OD is for intermediate level drug/pharmacology questions/discussion. I am not fully clear as to what your question is. If you are asking if you are going to get addicted or not, our answers will be purely speculative and nothing concrete. Sometimes people don't realize that there is a fundamental difference between dependency, and addiction.

Dependence -

Drug dependence means that a person needs a drug to function normally. Abruptly stopping the drug leads to withdrawal symptoms. Drug addiction is the compulsive use of a substance, despite its negative or dangerous effects.

A person may have a physical dependence on a substance without having an addiction. For example, certain blood pressure medications do not cause addiction but they can cause physical dependence. Other drugs, such as cocaine, cause addiction without leading to physical dependence.

Tolerance to a drug (needing a higher dose to attain the same effect) is usually part of addiction

Addiction -

the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma.

Now the good thing is, that the dose you are taking is INCREDIBLY low. Basically the smallest daily dose you can even take. In that regard, physical dependence may start after about 3 weeks of daily use, but due to your very small dose, withdrawal symptoms will be negligible. Maybe just a minor annoyance. Definitely nothing full blown.

On the other hand, regardless of your dose, addiction can become a reality for you. It is possible to be addicted to opiates, while not being actually physically dependent. Addiction + dependence aren't necessarily mutual inclusive terms.

If you are already worrying about making out schedules to follow to avoid further problems, you are encroaching on psychological addiction very fast. Sadly, 99 percent of opiate addicts I know (myself included) thought we were smarter then everyone and had better self control, and could avoid addiction no problem.

WRONG

Many years later I am still battling heroin addiction.

Moral of the story - Stop daily use of oxycodone NOW, and like you mentioned save them for times where you have unbearable pain and need some relief. THere is nothing wrong with taking pain medication. But, as you know I am sure, problems can be avoided much easier if you avoid dialy use. Because sooner or later 5mg a day will turn into 10, then 20, then 40, and so on and so forth.

I wish someone told me all this tuff before i started fucking with opiates regularly, and I may have been able to avoid the spot I am in now. If only I could turn time back.

Anyways, sorry for the ramble.. I'm pretty high righ tnow.

If you are curious about basic dosage/effects questions, addiction, tapering schedules, etc, you can check out Basic Drug Discussion, or the dark side.

But since this isn't OD material , it may get closed, but I am going to leave it open for a little bit so some more people can respond.. Please take a moment to read the BLUA and the Other Drugs rules and posting standards located in my signature. Also if you use the search engine you will find myriads of threads about percocet/oxycodone.

ANy other questions, feel free to PM myself or any other staff.

For me, I only take the hydrocodone I'm prescribed when the pain is unbearable. I will on occasion abuse opiates, but they are not the hydrocodone I'm prescribed for legitimate back pain. So yes, don't take them unless you need to, unless you aggravated your injury and needed them for 3 weeks...otherwise, if you don't just take them when you really need to, 5mg isn't going to help anymore, and you'll end up needing more to get the same analgesic results.

yeah just dont push it because then you end up like me needing 150-200mg per dose of oxy to get off or like 3 8mg dillys. being an addict really isnt a fun game, but if you do ever get worse i consider suboxone being a godsend occasionally. But brokedown basically explained everything you need to know and really consider and think about (great post brokedown) .

Thanks buddy :)

If your drug of choice is marijuana, then just stick to that. I would feel blessed if my drug or choice was still weed. Just take the percs when the pain is high (if you even need them). Don't overdue it. There was a time when I wasn't pysically or psychologically addicted to opiates but I kind of invited the monkey on my back. I liked opiates alot and knew, although I could train myself to slow down, I just didn't (or couldn't?). Once you get to the point of no return, it's almost impossible to go back. If you have predisposition to addiction, or even an addictive personality, it will be in no time you'll fall into a bad trap.

I don't think you are addicted, although you are relying on them for analgesia, this isn't the same as relying on them for feelings of well being.

I have an interesting take on this. Everyone here knows I LOVE dope, particularly opana, lots of opana. I had a car wreck the other day, some idiot pulled out in front of me, didn't even have time to hit the brakes. I don't have dope sickness now b/c my back is killing me. I got a bottle full of 7.5 hydros, and granted I have to take 3 at once, I don't get even the buzz I would get if I were taking them normally. It works wonderfully for my back though, which unfortunately is fubared from the festiva hitting an SUV. I was in the festiva, and we lost btw. It sucks like hell, and I'm gonna get off here now cause guess what... my back hurts.
