What do you have to go through before a pain management doc will take you as a patient? Generally, are there options you must exhaust first?

Advice on manipulating physicians for medicine is not allowed. Not trying to be a dick, just informing you.

With that being said...

Typically, you must be prescribed medicine for an extended period of time from another physician before a pain management doctor is even considered. There is typically also the expectation that the condition for which you are receiving palliative treatment is a chronic (long-term) condition.
