Ceiling dose Adderall

I've begun to notice that there is a ceiling effect with Adderall. I can't get any higher than I do at 90mg. For instance yesterday I took 90mg XR and had a great time but today I take 135mg and feel just as if I took 90mg, or maybe even a little less. But this isn't the first time I've noticed this. I simply won't get any higher than 90mg of Adderall, regardless of how much more I take. In fact if I take too much (350mg+ 24 hour period) I'll become sedated and my eyes become pin point (Nobody has been able to explain this to me yet). So when I go on binges I can continue to take massive doses but I won't feel any higher than as if I took 90mg. I should have learned by now to safe my Addys and stop taking doses higher than 90mg since that seems to be my ceiling dose. Sort of a waste. (I'll keep this in mind next time).

So my question is, has anybody else noticed a ceiling effect with Adderall? Not necessarily 90mg, but just any dose. I don't know if I'm the only one who experiences this. I've never asked.

Much help with enlightening me.

While I've never really "pushed the limit" with Adderall, a good friend of mine has, (and he had no amphetamine tolerance at all prior to this) and found that his ceiling was 30mg. 35, 40, and 50mg felt the same as 30mg.

I know it varies a lot with individual reaction, but that story is interesting because it involves an individual who had very little stimulant experience and no amphetamine tolerance.

I would just be careful investigating this if i were you. If your pushing the limit taking 135mg of adderall in one day (which, IMHO, is a shitload of amphetamines), you could end up in trouble.

Just because there may not be a ceiling dose with regards to effects, you can certainly still overdose on an amount that only feels like 90-130mg.

Also dude, i dont reccomend taking that much adderall. Amphetamines place a lot of strain on your heart and circulatory system, and repeated use has been known to cause heart palpitations, chronically increased blood pressure, taxes your veins and arteries, etc. Just be careful, cause ive never heard of anyone taking that much adderall in my life.

Much of what you described in your post could be related to METH users. I am not one of them, but I have witnessed a few that experienced a 'ceiling' effect. Combining other drugs became necessary to achieve the level of euphoria they used to get from 2 hits.

The dopamine system is more resilient than other neurotransmitter systems, but repeated use can cause catastrophic results.

What you describe, sir, is tolerance.
You should back off now, for at least a year.

Space them out. I'm prescribed 45MG XR 2 times a day. Once in the morning, once at lunch. Works like a charm. As far a trying to acheive a ceiling effect, never tried. Don't want my heart to explode.

actually, no it isnt. adderall is a mixture of dextro and levo amphetamine salts. the pharm version of meth is Desoxyn which is pure methamphetamine.

I have a great deal of past experience with both meth and Adderall. Adderall is absolutely not the "pharmaceutical version" of meth. As laCster said, Methamphetamine HCL (Desoxyn) is the pharmaceutical version of meth.

EDIT: Almost forget...K'd-OUT-in-AZ, I experienced a ceiling effect with Adderall too - 120mgs IR.

I haven't pushed the bounds much; however 90mg IR Adderall has been sufficient within a 24 hour period - and it never was 'too much.' I have yet to really have an interest to push the limits -- must be a strange psychological property of the chemical, plus the components that come with using said chemical habitually, I suppose 8)8)

Understanding how the chemical affects my mind and body, and trying to find 'the right dose' each day is on my mind more often than 'trying to push my limits.'

I could push myself to take more, but 90mg/day is the max uncommon for myself. 8(%)

When I would start a meth binge, only the first day would be really euphoric. As I keep using and using and using, it did nothing but keep me high (not higher than when I started the binge). I keep using and I'm up for days (4-5) and it never gets more euphoric than that first day I did it. By the time I am out of meth and out of money to buy it, I feel like I've been run over by a train. I would take benzos and sleep for 12 hours at a time. The next time I do it, it's the same thing - the first day is like I'm god and I'm on top of the world, but the next day and the day after I just maintain the high - but it never got higher than the day I started the binge.

It's the same exact same thing with dextroamphetamine, which I'm prescribed the 5 mg IR tablets (I get 150 of them a month). Same deal as with the methamphetamine.

I don't believe it's a ceiling effect. I think our brains are flooded with so much dopamine that no matter how much we use, the dopamine that is continuously being released is not felt because it's already pumped full of dopamine. Does that make sense?

Or it could even be a psychological thing, where we are so fucked up that we don't realize it and so we continue to use thinking "hey, how come I'm not getting any higher"? Kind of similar to benzos, where you're so fucked up and everyone around you notices it except for you.

no I havent been up for days I have had to stop temazepam for a bit cold turkey with xanax in place....

I have noticed a ceiling dose I would say. On multiple day binges, that ceiling might be titrated, but I do not get any higher, sometimes increase in dose is necessary if on Day 3 of speed binge.

That sucks - having to stop temazepam and take alprazolam instead.

Not only that but I think I lost my psychiatrist. I hate him its cool but he HAS to prescribe me another months med and send me a letter in the mail I guess thats how they do it here in Chicago atleast saying hes done with me. He put me on 3 5mg valium after taking like 4mg of clonazepam everyday for months and got mad when I RAN OUT EARLY. I almost couldn't believe it. I wanted back on Diazepam but the doctor I went to is alot nicer and more professional and she felt bad I had to pay 475 dolalalas to see her and only for benzo W/D she just gave me my Xanax back she put me on when I had issues with this douchebag awhile back, and put 3 refills on it.

I dont abuse any of that shit though. TBH Temazepam didn't work for me I took it rarely because I thought it was making my sleep Worse......It def has........ Fuck That shit. Altogether...

If temazepam didn't help you sleep than alprazolam will most definitely not help you either. I've been on alprazolam for 4 years now - I'm scripted 1 mg 3x/day. It works great for anxiety, I must admit, but it sucks otherwise. I get 180 count of the 0.5 mg alprazolam's a month and I still seek better benzos on the streets.

BUT, I never claimed to be the 'expert' on stimulants. Or meth.
Even with MDMA, I never quite crowned myself the king, like you think.

But I do write with authority, something very difficult for certain MDMA users.
Strange how other drug users don't tend to react that way...

There is nothing to 'fetch' here.

I made a pretty simple claim, which is not really untrue.
Both are amphetamines and both share MANY risk factors - high bp, heart-attack, stroke, death...

Abuse of both will lead to tolerance and eventual dopaminergic degeneration.
The subjective effects are likely similar, even if not identical.
I have a friend that likes dexedrine, which is dextroamphetamine, which is also in Adderall.
He SWEARS it is just a kinder version of METH.
That is really ALL I need to know to consider them 'alike'.
Are they really that different?

Dextroamphetamine and methamphetamine are like twins, there really isn't that much of a big difference between the two. Yes, meth has some extra effects on the brain and is more intense as a stimulant but it's not that big of a difference. Both can drive you to insanity.
