Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr. backs an early release proposal to retroactively correct sentence disparities between crack and powder cocaine offenders. The plan, which would apply to 5,500 prisoners, would take effect Nov. 1.

Reporting from Washington and Los Angeles— Thousands of federal prisoners could have an average of three years shaved off their prison terms to correct wide disparities in sentences between crack and powder cocaine offenders, under a proposal supported by Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr.

More than 12,000 federal prisoners — nearly 6% of the inmates in the badly overcrowded U.S. prison system — could be affected. But Holder recommended Wednesday that the early release be applied to only 5,500 prisoners, whose crimes did not involve the use of weapons and who did not have long criminal histories. The releases could begin later this year.

There was a court rulling saying that this was a racial issue and was supposed to be taken care of years back... Heck I was in the US still when that came about.

i saw a documentary about the history of drugs in the us and remember that opiates were made illegal by the Harrison Tax Act bc white men thought Chinese men were luring in the white ladies into opium dens in san francisco. the next drug to be made illegal was cocaine due to black men using cocaine in the south and accusation that cocaine made black men violent and rape white women. lol!! it seems like racism is the foundation of the US drug laws.

isnt crack more addictive than coke and thus more fiendish and likely to commit crimes?

not trying to be a dick but thats just what i thought

Yes but that it because the way it's used, it's practically the same chemical. It would be like punishing IV heroin users more than those who snort it.

JSG, vodka drinkers and people that finish a case of beer a night are both alcoholics, infact id view vodka drinkers as better because they wouldnt get a beer belly

would you rather your hypothetical son was addicted to cocaine or crack?

^But people who drink a 5th of vodka or more everyday usually are a lot worse alcoholics then a guy drinking a case.

But I'm glad to see this shit finally happenin yo. Everybody knows this shit was racist as hell and was just to make it easier to give black dudes football numbers and let white dudes get a couple years.

I always thought coke should be the worse charge of the two because with coke ANYBODY can make crack, but with crack there's no way to turn it into back into cocaine once it's rocked up. So it's almost like you have 2 drugs in one if that makes sense to anybody(I know you need more then just coke to make crack, but nothin that's not legal to own)

I forget what the exact numbers I read a while back, but it was somethin like if you had 3 dimes of crack the sentence would be equal to gettin caught with a half kilo of coke (not an exact number but it was some crazy shit like that)

You can turn crack back into coke with a simple procedure.

The sentencing disparity between crack and coke is stupid and racist. Obama didn't even get rid of it, just lessened it and got rid of the minimum mandatory sentence. I guess it's something, but it ain't much.

hmm..never run across that one. i must have wrongfully assumed you were suggesting the other more common acronym

^I always thought it meant "Quit fuckin Talkin" too, then when I started postin here I was like why is he tellin dude to quit talkin when he said some real shit so then I assumed it meant "Quite fuckin true" but now I guess I know it means "Quoted for truth" Learn somethin new everyday.

Either way I knew Mora Fiend was cosignin not hatin when I read it.
