Ron Paul jokes: "I don't want to use heroin" so I need drug laws

How can you avoid it? Do you know where police are at all times?

If the cost of your social safety net is the abrogation of individual freedom, then to hell with it.

You can avoid it by sticking to legal drugs, or through being a part of a successful drug legalization movement. Drug legalization is possible, it just needs enough people behind it. Further, I think you are obfuscating freedom and comfort. What freedom is to you is comfort to me. Drugs aren't necessary unless they are needed to keep you alive or functional, in which case, a doctor can prescribe it for you. If you can't access that doctor, because of a mixture of the grossly expensive pricetag, cut-throat medical insurance policy, and the lack of government funding of healthcare, then isn't that a limitation of one's freedom?

Because EVERYBODY NEEDS TO EAT, you dont NEED to use drugs. That should be pretty simple to understand.

And please yo--I would bet the last fuckin penny in my babys piggy bank that im saving up for his future that the amount of food stamps that goes to food is higher than the amount that gets traded, sold, etc. And even if some people do, that means that the people who use em as they suppose to be used deserve not to eat?

That sounds kinda like the people who are for higher restrictions on pain medications, becuz "a high percentage are diverted to illegal use." So, nobody gets pain meds, even legitimately suffering people, becuz its better to let 9 patients in legit pain suffer than to let 1 junkie get high. Right?

First off, if 25% of the food stamps were traded for drugs, its still a high percentage at 1/4... doesn't mean it's most, but still quite a bit nevertheless...

I am not against food stamps I was simply stating the fact they do (ironically in this case) get traded(abused) for buying drugs.

Thats a fantasy...with the greedy mutha fuckas in this country the only ways these programs gonna stick around is if someones MAKING it happen. No states gonna voluntarily spend that money when it dont HAVE to. Ron paul wants these programs eliminated, and if that happened, they wouldnt just pop up again outta the kindness of peoples hearts. unfortunately people need to be forced to do the right thing and without nobody forcin, social services will be long gone.

Theresgreed at federal AND state levels of government. I don't see why each state could force social services. Maybe a few really hardcore.consrvative states wouldn't but t would be their prerogative...

Apostate I think you're conflating freedoms with needs.

For what it's worth, I've relied on handouts for food, clothing and shelter just so I can spend every available dime on dope. I can't say I wouldn't do it again.

It's cool to see a Ron Paul thread in here. It's pretty scary about how much I agree with him beings I usually hate politics, but I can safely say that I would vote for him.

Can't believe how many anti-RP trolls are on this website. Crap about how he's somehow pro-corporation because he's free market and wants to end big government being in bed with big business, which in essence is what a corporation is. yeah he's terrible because he want the country to abide by its laws and thinks people are capable of helping themselves and others. Crazy talk that.

^Anyone who disagrees with RP is a troll?

Do you understand what abolition of income tax will do to the country? Do you believe the Civil Rights Act is unconstitutional? Paul advocates building a wall at the Mexican border to keep out "undesirables", opposes the right to healthcare, says the market should be responsible for environmentalism and denies climate change. Socially, I agree with much of his platform, but he isn't the only person in office with these beliefs and I would much rather support someone who isn't the most fiscally conservative member of congress.

The constitution isn't a holy document that shouldnt be questioned, the founders knew this so they left in the ability to change it.

he isn't a typical republican you guys. I always have liked Ron Paul

could you elaborate on him saying the market 'should be responsible for environmentalism'?

First off, The civil rights act gives us rights that weren't impicitly given in the bill of rights / constitution. As a libertarian, he embraces civil liberties.

A wall is needed for obvious reasons... just look at the problems with illegal immigration, cartels, etc. I think healthcare is kind of debatable... we all need it, yet people who CHOOSE to live an unhealthy lifestyle IMO should not be entitled to have free healthcare at my expense when I CHOOSE to eat healthy, exercise, and not smoke tobacco etc.

Rp wants to eliminate federal income.taxes for the simple reasons that states can make their own taxes based on each states individual needs, and that over the years the federal government has gotten outrageous in spending on needless wars like on drugs ad terrorism, and has basically eliminated the need for warrants to.invade privacy since 9-11. Now they just need warrants to use the evidence in court, and the federal government seems to almost be oppressively tesing its citizens just to see how.far they can play the terrorism card to make the federal government more and more powerful

attention dope fiends who do not like Ron Paul and have not lost your voting rights:

That made me laugh because I registered to vote when I was 18 (of course) and I got arrested for drug trafficking when I was 19. I thought that I wouldn't be able to vote, however for some reason I can, I have 6 felonies on my record and they still let me vote.

I love America.

He also, as a libertarian, says he would have voted against the bill due to it's unconstitutionality. This is what I mean when I say the constitution isn't written in stone.

A wall is needed for obvious reasons... just look at the problems with illegal immigration, cartels, etc.

And you're best answer is to build a giant wall? This doesn't address the problem nor does it offer a realistic solution.

I think healthcare is kind of debatable... we all need it, yet people who CHOOSE to live an unhealthy lifestyle IMO should not be entitled to have free healthcare at my expense when I CHOOSE to eat healthy, exercise, and not smoke tobacco etc.

You're going to need health care wether or not you choose to live a healthy lifestyle. I don't like the idea of personally paying for a stranger's unwise lifestyle decisions either, but health care is a basic human right which should be a public achievement in every successful nation. And it is, aside from in the US and in Mexico.

I think Paul opposes income tax on the principle that direct taxation is wrong, regardless of if it's state or federal.

I'm all for ending things like the war on drugs, the war on terrorism, and the Patriot Act too, but Ron paul isn't the only politician saying these things and he doesn't have a magic wand to pull the plug. The public is going to have to press a little harder before more and more people in congress will have the nerve to address these issues.

Welfare should never pay for more than a low-middle class standard of living, imo.

I would be very happy if welfare paid for such a high standard of living.
The way it has been for the past 50 years, welfare recipients are dirt poor.

I think that all human beings deserve at least to be lower-middle class (assuming that they contribute to society - for me, I would give them jobs to make them earn their money, but provide more money so that they can live decently).

Ron Paul has essentially no chance of becoming prez.
If he does, I will fear greatly for the people of the country.
(I would even prefer Obama, which is saying a lot...)

It seems that this thread has turned from Ron Paul's stance on drugs to Ron Paul's politics in general.

We should really get back on topic, this thread is starting to look like CE&P
