Moving Abroad

I'm on the verge of buying a one-way ticket to Bangkok, Thailand. I have friends over there with job connections, social connections,etc... that can set me up with basically everything. Just a matter of me manning-up and taking the plunge!
 
I'm moving to LA for a year or more (though doing some travelling round the rest of the states too) from Melbourne Australia next week! It's daunting but I haven't made many plans yet, I'm hoping everything will sort of fall into place when I get there. I'll have a job, I'm launching our company in the US, but I'm doing it solo, so I wont meet anyone through work. I was hoping to pick up some bar work or something on the side to meet people...
 
^ All I have to say is don't let LA paint you a picture of California (or America for that matter). Make sure you do plenty of traveling while you're here to see what else CA has to offer ;)
 
^ Now you're scaring me! I am planning to do a lot of travelling though, I'm actually looking for a much smaller town in California to launch the business, as I think breaking into LA will be too hard. I'll be looking for the perfect place while I'm there :D
 
Haha no, its not that LA is unlivable, its just very infested with what many people think of as 'typical americans'. So I hate to see people draw conclusions about the average american from LA. California is a beautiful state though, if you're ever up in Northern CA shoot me a PM I'll give you a locals run-down on all the best hidden spots up here :D

I have a feeling i'm gonna do this next year, where im not exactly sure.. i have a British citizenship along with my Australian citizenship, so maybe somewhere in Europe. I need to get out of this culture and live in a completely different environment for a while i think.

don't forget that there's a constant in any location to which you move and that is you.

i'm not suggesting that a change of scenery is useless - it can be a catalyst for change. however, in my experience, when people run away from problems, they just end up in a different place with the same problems.

I know that, its an excellent point. However I lived far, far away on an island in the south pacific (western samoa) a few years back, and it was a perfect situation for me.

What you are saying is true, but my self is not the reason I want to get away. It's not everyone else either, its just... the system.
