The New Rise of PCP

I've always wondered how's responsible for making the PCP. Is it made in the US? How many people are making it?

The Los Angeles area is the primary source for the majority of PCP found in the United States. According to the El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC) Clandestine Laboratory Database, 17 of the 24 PCP laboratories seized throughout the United States from 1998 to 2002 were located in California. As they have for decades, African-American organizations and street gangs, operating primarily in Los Angeles and San Bernardino County, produce most of the PCP available nationwide. These groups typically produce PCP in liquid form and subsequently handle the wholesale distribution of the drug to mid-level distributors in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Newark, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. It has been determined that some of the individuals involved with these organizations were formerly part of PCP trafficking groups and street gangs that have operated in the Los Angeles area since the late 1980s and early 1990s. In July 2002, and, more recently, in February 2003, the DEA and the Southern California High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) seized two operational PCP laboratories in the Los Angeles area. These laboratories were operated by African-American members of a Los Angeles-based PCP trafficking organization.

PCP is also produced by Mexican drug trafficking organizations operating in the United States. These organizations typically produce PCP in powder or crystal form versus the liquid form normally produced by African-American organizations. In addition, these organizations are suspected of distributing wholesale quantities of PCP powder to Hispanic street gangs and other distributors in San Jose, New York City, and various locations in Oklahoma. In 2001, a clandestine laboratory that produced PCP in powder and crystal form was seized in San Jose. A Mexican national serving as a laboratory operator in San Jose was recently released from prison, having served time for prior

In California, independent operators have, for many years, been suspected of producing PCP. Because these operators normally produce small amounts of PCP for personal use and/or localized distribution, they are usually of little significance. However, in 2001, a large clandestine laboratory that produced crystal PCP was seized in California's Mariposa County. The Caucasian operators of this laboratory, described as "biker-types," appeared to be operating independently from other PCP trafficking organizations. As in the case of the San Jose laboratory, one of the operators of this laboratory was recently released from prison for prior drug-related offenses.

Despite California being the primary production area, significant PCP production operations recently have been found in Baltimore, Maryland, and Gary, Indiana. In November 2002, an operational PCP laboratory was seized at a residence in Baltimore. It was one of the largest PCP laboratories ever seized on the East Coast, as it contained an enormous amount of chemicals consistent with the manufacture of PCP and approximately 4 gallons of finished product. The African-American operators of the laboratory apparently intended to lace marijuana with PCP to increase its marketability and profit margin. In December 2001, federal, state, and local law enforcement authorities disrupted an organization, responsible for the manufacture and wholesale distribution of PCP in Gary, and arrested many of its African-Americans members. This organization had been producing PCP for several years-primarily supplying a Chicago-based street gang.

Precursors, reagents, and solvents used to manufacture PCP are obtained primarily from sources in California. Other sources of supply have been identified in Connecticut, Indiana, Maryland, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Texas. In most cases, the precursors are obtained from legitimate commercial and bulk chemical companies under false pretenses. The use of falsified information is a popular method of deception. For example, one illicit organization alleged that the chemicals were to be used for industrial cleaning purposes. PCP traffickers are known for establishing "front" companies for the sole purpose of obtaining chemicals necessary for the production of PCP as well as other illicit synthetic drugs. The PCP laboratory seized recently in Baltimore had obtained chemicals from a company in Maryland that had been set up by the laboratory operators.

Lots of other good info unrelated to production in that article as well.

There are some buzzes that aren't meant to be experienced by myself and I'm thinking this is definitely one of them. While it doesn't produce adverse reactions among every user, I think the general consensus is that it can cause extreme psychosis and this scares people. Myself included, however, I'm sure there are people who can use it without abusing it.

I really can't see how anyone could like it enough to do it on a regular basis much less get addicted to it. Although i guess at low doses it could be fun. But hell if i was going to pick a dissociative to get addicted to it would be ketamine or better yet nitrous :D

nitrous addiction is no joke... i had to detox with alchie then benzos. i was getting DT's and felt like i was going to seize up if id go 24 hours without doing a whipit.

pcp can be very addicting, i always smoked low doses and was wet at least every other day for a good month or two before it became too much to handle, but it was one hell of a time. wake up, smoke wet, go to work, smoke on break, go back to work, smoke after work, etc. etc. it became a part of life. extremely euphoric if you dont overdo it.

PCP has alway been readily available in Philly, at least for the last decade. I can't speak about use % and if it's growing. As for the premise of it causing a lot of mental health issues, I don't know if there's a causative relationship there and the article isn't very convincing, just anecdotal for the most part.

I agree.

PCP has always been common and easily available in Philadelphia and even outside in the suburbs both in the 90s/early 00's and before then.

I personally have never used it but I know TONS of people who I grew up with who had either smoked dust once or a few times. They'd actually smoked PCP, it wasn't any of this "OMG I got very stoned on excellent herb/got too stoned and I think my herb might have been laced with PCP!" that you read about in Cannabis discussion on here where the person got too stoned/anxious off of herb that didn't have PCP on it at all.

One guy I knew was into it semi-regularly and enjoyed it-no he never got violent or any of those things you hear about PCP doing to people- and if you wanted dust/wet it was hypothetically easily available and you could easily find people into it or who knew someone who could get it.

My friends that were into PCP told me how it was on the shittiest herb, stuff that made mids or regular brown schwag look good and it didn't smell or taste like regular herb at all.

My dad's friend attended a well known University outside of Philadelphia in the late 70s and early 80s and he told me how even then there was tons of dust in the city and he easily found it while living in Jersey during the mid 70s which isn't surprising. He enjoyed PCP the few times he smoked it and he said it made him feel numb and he was able to draw portraits of Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin while on it.

I have no idea about the % of users for PCP but a lot of people I attended Jr. HS and highschool with had tried it, used it or knew someone who had. I'm sure there were a few dust heads around besides the one I knew but most people including myself were pretty discreet about our use of anything illegal.

I don't know of anyone that I'd ever met who had used PCP who described getting violent or having to go to the hospital or psych ward like the article suggests. They just said how dust made them feel chill, unable to move at times, one guy I knew said how he shared a blunt of wet with some friends and they were sitting on this other kid's parked car and jumping off of it since it made them feel like they were sort of flying a bit at the time, one raver kid I knew said how dust made him feel very tall or like he was sort of hovering or floating a few inches above the ground when he walked, and one friend of mine who wanted to intentionally see what a high dose of PCP was like said how he felt like he was sort of a zombie or having an out of body experience after smoking lots of bong hits of PCP all at once.

Pcp

I did a butt load of PCP in the mid-seventies. It was sprayed or soaked on dried mint leaves and it was the most eurphoric high I have ever experienced, bar none! It cured a hangover instantly and I could be around adults and no one knew I was high. I am not saying I could do calculus while on the stuff but I could function and even went to school high. Then laws were passed to make the active ingredients harder to obtain and suddenly kids were going off the deep end and stories were showing up on the news about violent acts committed and people being institutionalized due to Angel Dust (PCP). I began having bad experiences as well and quit using it but I knew it was because the dealers were substituting all kinds of crap to make it look and smell like the read stuff.

A few years back someone gave me a cigarette soaked in pcp or so I was told. It smelled similar but just slowed me down and made me numb, no euphoria. I do not believe the real thing is widely available anymore.

PCP has always seemed pretty easy to find in the large cities in Tx. (Austin and Houston especially). I don't think it's getting more or less popular. It's available and a moderate number of people seem to do it sometimes, but few people do it a lot. I like the high although it is kinda demented, and it also makes me feel like shit the day after.

I feel like the high is potentially dangerous because when you're really shermed up everything seems great and fun. Like, if you were fighting someone, it could be really euphoric and thus you could be really dangerous because you're also very dissociated, almost to the point of delirium. This only happens with fairly high doses I think, but when doing pcp it's best to be in a secure setting where you couldn't do anything too crazy.

It's fun, duh! Unless you're around someone who's going to freak out if you look all crazy, why would you care how it makes you look?

Man let me tell you my experience with PCP, it was really horrible and I would -never- do it again...

One night my boy calls me up and says "Cmon over I got a quarter let's chill", so of course I go because there is nothing better to do on a school night right? :)

So I go over and he packs up a bowl, he gives me greens on it and I take a huge hit, I notice that the taste is very "chemically' and didn't taste very natural. He insists that we keep smoking so we do. Afterwards he tells me that he put a $50 bag of PCP on the weed...and, as the song goes: "That's, when, things, went, out, of, control!"

I started to feel like I was being electrocuted, I was gripping everything very tightly and I was extremely tense and grinding my teeth and so forth. If that wasn't bad enough my friends mother comes up to his room about 30 mins after we get done and tells us that there is a Mormon preacher downstairs that wants to talk to us....My fucking luck....

So we go downstairs and listen to this guy try to convert us to his religion, now I have nothing against religion but this just was NOT the time to hear all this stuff. So we survive about 45 minutes of that rah-rah and go back upstairs. We try chilling out by watching a movie but it just doesn't work. I eventually get the nerve up to walk home and had to keep gripping this rock I found as hard as I could the whole time.

After about 6 hours of feeling like every muscle in my body was about to rip apart the effects started to wear off and I finally relax...

Moral of the story, PCP is a horrible drug and I do not see the recreational value in it whatsoever, how it is on the rise as the article suggests is way beyond me..

PCP is usually made locally. It doesn't keep well. There are definitely chemists operating in the ghetto. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was getting my stuff straight from the source. It's always a bit of a shock when you meet a cook. It's never the ones you'd guess.

Eww. Where is the market for this shit?! Like, who here is buying up all the PCP? :)

Can't imagine that more than a handful of people in a given city would actually do angel dust. Then again, there are folks who huff freon and such, so anything's possible.
