Charles and Sherry Best stopped for bacon milkshakes after dropping off their dead sister-in-law’s body after she overdosed on heroin, prosecutors said Friday.

The Bests remained in the Lake County Jail on Friday after Associate Judge Raymond Collins ordered them held on $1 million bond. Both are charged with concealing a homicide in the death of Round Lake Park resident Melissa Best, while Sherry Best faces an additional charge of drug-induced homicide.

Melissa Best was last seen alive on April 15, and her body was found in a Grayslake parking lot 10 days later. Round Lake Park police said that Sherry Best, her sister-in-law, provided heroin that Melissa Best injected into herself during a visit to the couple’s room at an extended-stay hotel in Waukegan.

Melissa Best fell unconscious almost immediately, and Sherry Best, who police say had also injected herself with heroin, made no attempt to assist her, authorities said.

Police said Charles Best, the brother and co-worker of Melissa’s husband, Clinton, arrived home a short time later and was unable to resuscitate her.

Later that same day, the couple carried Melissa Best’s body to her minivan and drove it to Grayslake, police said. They chose that location to leave her body because Charles Best once dated a woman who lived in the complex, Lake County prosecutor Steve Scheller said.

After dumping her body, they stopped on the way back to Waukegan for the milkshakes at a Denney’s restaurant, Scheller said.

A toxicology report later determined that Melissa Best died of morphine intoxication.

Ya know, I haven't tried one yet, and I hope to god I never do, but EVERY person I've talked to who tried the bacon SUNDAY (not milkshake =p) loved it! It's just vanilla ice cream, maple syrup, n bacon haha

I wonder what the laws are in their state, could they have called 911 without getting arrested? If they could not do that, you can't blame them for trying to save their own lives. It's horrible it happened to her, but legally people shouldn't have to be afraid of imprisonment for taking care of the dead in an unfortunate accident

I can't decide which is more indicative of the dark and hopeless road our country is going down: dumping an OD'd stiff in a parking lot, or the fact that bacon milkshakes are available.

I really shouldn't be amused at this article........

but ffs, bacon milkshakes?

I can blame them. Just bite the bullet and do the time, but don't let a friend die.

not that I endorse these laws, but there are really only 2 options:

  1. take up arms and overthrow the government
  2. take up a telephone and dial 9-1-1

This is really close to where I live. I've been to every town they name.

I just don't understand why these people are so responsible for this woman's death. If someone is sick and you decide to not care for them and they later die because of your negligence you don't get a felony.

They didn't put drugs in her drink. This woman was an adult. No one forced her to use heroin and no one should be responsible for her death. Stupid war on drugs.

Heroin claims relatively few deaths. Tons of people die from cigarettes annually but Phil Morris is not put in jail for their death. How does that make sense. You can say that no one made these people smoke, just like no one made this woman do heroin. Such discrepancies at blame pointing its sickening.

They responsible becuz they didnt call 911, and then after she died, instead of goin thru the right path and reporting it and shit they tried to cover it up and drop off the dead body at the hospital like "Oh word? She dead? Damn, no way! we had no idea she was dead! she was totally breathin when we left her there!"

The thing is I agree with the fact that its stupid as hell to charge the people who get high with somebody who OD's and dies for their death, and charge the dealer who sold em the dope, etc. But if they just went on some negligent shit and abandoned the person without tryna get em help then yea, you fucked up.

It gets me heated to think about how as soon as drugs get involved somehow its the friends fault everytime. The shit is ridiculous so i see where you comin from but in this case the fault is pretty damn clear to me.

If you dont call 911 for your peoples when they OD you a fuckin scumbag. I done it before and I had dope on me and I was high and you know wat I fuckin called that shit. You can call it and then LEAVE. You aint even gotta fuckin STAY. You feel me? It aint hard to save somebodys life like that. You take their dope and your dope and your sets and watever, go hide it somewhere away from the scene. Then you call 911, say you a observer and you seen somebody passed out in their car or some shit and bounce, if you got warrants or somethin or cant be seen by the boys. You aint gotta get arrested to help out your peoples like that.

Yea i understand protectin your own ass but you can still DO that while savin somebodys life, aint no excuse not to do that shit, its lowdown and shady and shit like that just gives junkies a bad name and makes us all look like shit.

And one other thing I got to say, How come every time somebody does a crime about lettin somebody die/killin somebody, the newspapers always gotta say in the headline that they did SOMETHIN afterwards. yall ever notice that? It says like "Man went out for coffee after killing wife" or some shit.

Like somehow, stoppin to eat somethin after you do that makes you even worse of a person. I get the idea, somebody shoots someone in the head then calmly sits down to enjoy a dinner like oh damn thats cold....But come on yo....Is it really that bad, does it really say THAT much about somebody, that they THAT much of a cold blooded killer cuz they ate or got ice cream or the fuck ever after they did the shit?

Maybe they were fuckin hungry, it aint like they went out for ice cream to CELEBRATE lettin the bitch die.

Oh, n if I wasn't clear, I meant I could see why they wouldn't call 911 after she was already dead if the laws would hold them accountable just for finding her/ having passed out with her but been lucky enough to wake up- if there was a chance of saving her, you gotta take it of course.

Great advertising though. The preferred snack of late night body dumpers:

watch the stocks dip =p

Fuck whoever says it was the victims fault. you know what? she may have chosen to shoot up, they may have dumped her body with no regard for decency or morales, but to claim that it was solely the fault of the individual, and that the couple was in a compromising position makes me feel damn near suicidal. how in god's name do these shit heads live their bacon-filled, worthless lives knowing they could have prevented this? there is always, always, always a way out. fuck.
