Title is a bit melodramatic, but I just saw this in the SMH. While the story is undoubtedly sad, the way it's used in the article is pretty disgusting, I'm sure the article will make you angry, so please comment and express your opinion.

http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/socie...-a-recipe-for-drug-misery-20110508-1edzx.html

It would be nice to send a message to a major publication that Australian's are responsible and we do want personal individual freedoms to make our own informed decisions about what we put in our bodies.

Anyways, vote for legalisation here:

http://www.smh.com.au/polls/opinion/drugs-20110509-1ef4e.html#poll

While it won't make any real difference, at least it will be known that there is large, vocal support for legalisation in a major newspaper.

Ha.

public support is overwhelmingly and immovably hostile to legalisation or even decriminalisation

Yet the poll is (currently) in favour of legalisation. Yet another example of right-wing media elements pushing their agenda by telling the public what to believe. Pathetic.

Whoever wrote it is a pretty shitty journalist, or is it columnist?

The whole thing is their own opinion, nowhere does it cite where they gets the basis of their claims about public opinion.

It also completely ignores the fact that the blokes family would be equally as miserable if he were in jail... especially if he played the dealer and got some of his assets seized.

anyone know the time and chanel of the debate he's talking about?

he says its the "IQ2 debate series" on tomorrow (tuesday the 10th), sorry if i should know what that is lol. pretty keen for watching it tho....

oh yea...what a dickhead.
playing devils advocate on the legalisation issue, i reckon a lot more people would be forced into properly victimizing crimes should we legalise drugs. no longer would addicts have the ability to sustain their habits through relatively victimless dealing, and would thus resort to robbing/stealing etc. most people i know if they cant afford their habits just start selling, as much as the media would like people to think they turn into cracked out thieves.
^just a thought tho, something a lot of users/supporters of legalization dont think about

Judging by the articles on that website Paul Sheehan is a fucking rightwing twat.

At the end of the article it says that debate is on at Melbourne Town Hall. Dont think its on TV.

I voted to legalise drugs. Still in the lead.

Why not to mix G and ALCOHOL

http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/socie...-a-recipe-for-drug-misery-20110508-1edzx.html

Now this article should not be focusing on why we should keep drugs illegal but rather the fact that more education could have saved this mans life. Seems to me that the guy was drinking and had some 1,4-B and since the 1,4-B couldn't be metabolised into GHB because alcohol was taking up the enzymes he took more and then finally when the alcohol wore off bam!! Or I may be completely wrong and he was just going to hard!

Sad story, his alcohol consumption would of undoubtedly contributed to him consuming such a crazy amount of G and the stimulants would not of helped either.

He did take heaps of other shit though and it is hard to say if he would of lived or not had he not used all that other crap. The bottom line here is that poly drug use is dangerous and can kill you, it is a shame that if this man was more educated on the substances he took then he would likely not of taken such a lethal combination, but then again who knows...

Its these idiots who ruin it for everyone else. Drug use is bad enough with the risks of impurities and adulterants, then mixing 2 drugs may have nice combos and risky, but taking multiple doses and multi drug taking is just stupid. Thats why drugs get a bad image. Wish people who use drugs were more informed these days and not just out to get "fkd up".

Legalise some drugs but not others

mixing juice and stims. the stims would of diminished the effects of the juice.
so he'd have to take more to feel the same. and the stims would of kept him awake from blowing out...

sometimes u just need to blowout and let juice run its course be4 u redose :p

Just a friendly heads up, this happens to be a good friend of mine. There is a little more to the story than what News corp trots out to feed the masses. By all means have some healthy debate but I'd ask for it to be a little more respectful towards a great guy.

RIP Stathi.

Wow. those comments in response to his article were great. nearly all of them brilliantly thought out and insightful, many cited evidence too.

originally when I started reading I thought it was a few bluelighters getting in and responding but then I checked back later and saw the sheer volume of responses and knew that it was the wider community having their say.
