Hello fellow lighters... I'm prescribed clonzopam and suboxone.. I'm looking for natural supplements that would increase potency of the clonzopam, because my tolerance has grown so quickly. The more intense for me, the better, I know of benadryl but not really looking to go that route, so please, please help.. I know some of you are experts in potentiating klonopin... @K'dOutInAZ THANK YOU <3

A CYP3A4 inhibitor would be a good start. Clonazepam is metabolized by CYP3A4, so a CYP3A4 inhibitor is going to slow down the metabolism of Clonazepam. Easy to access CYP3A4 inhibitors include grapefruit juice, Cimetidine (Tagamet) and Quinine. I would say that either grapefruit juice or quinine would work best. Drink 16oz of grapefruit juice or take Quinine about an hour prior to taking your Clonazepam, and be sure to take the Clonazepam on an empty stomach. I've used grapefruit juice to potentiate Clonazepam before and I felt like it did work somewhat. You should also avoid taking NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Naproxen, etc.) for at least 24 hours prior to using Clonazepam. NSAIDs have been known to throw benzodiazepines off course so to speak, and prevent them from reaching the GABA receptors.

In addition to all this, you could also try using something that will synergize with Clonazepam, like Valerian or Kava Kava. Valerian is thought to act upon GABA receptors in a similar manner as benzodiazepines, and Valerian is sometimes recommended to individuals who are discontinuing benzodiazepines. Kava Kava is also thought to act upon GABA receptors in a similar manner as benzodiazepines. There is a decent amount of research indicating that Kava Kava potentiates GABA activity and I've heard of people using it to successfully potentiate Diazepam.

Hope this helps you a bit!

I almost forgot - BE AWARE that Suboxone (Buprenorphine) is partially metabolized by CYP3A4, so grapefruit juice, Cimetidine (Tagamet) and Quinine can also potentiate Suboxone to an extent. Keep this in mind when dosing.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH grrrr8Dane.. Very helpful information.. Potentiating the Buprenorphin is also something that I am interested in too, so that's perfect.. Those were great suggestions, if anyone else has items that have worked for them, or know about natural supplements that will potentiate the effects of clonzepam.. the more the merrier, but thank you very much gr8Dane!

Any other idea's? I'll take over the counter ideas as well... I hate losing it's effects.. and i enjoy the drowsiness I get when I take it with my suboxone..

Kava is your best bet. Valerian also acts on serotonin, which will cause more of a grogginess.

Also have you looked into phenibut? It will also augment you benzo and suboxone...

I hope you get your nod back.

tagamet, grapefruit juice, weed, lyrica, and opiates are the best potentiators... tread lightly with the opiate + benzo combo...shit can get sticky reall quick and you end up blacking out or in the hospital

Oh I know, I have a long substance abuse history, and have very high tolerances to benzos, and I currently take suboxone.. I acquired GABA, Valerian and KAVA, Does ANYONE know how much I should take off each to get as much euphoria possible from my colonzopam?? So far I have taken a little of each with 2mg of clonzepam and 12mg of suboxone, and I'm feeling okay, but I'm looking for a lot heavier sedation..? please help

It's so hard to say with substances like Valerian and Kava because their effects can be so subtle when they are used alone. There have been numerous reports of Kava causing liver damage, so that's definitely something you need to keep in mind when dosing. I think that with either Kava or Valerian, it would be best to start with a conservative dose - perhaps 2x the recommended dosage. This is probably something that you're going to need to play around with in order to figure out what works best for you.

As for the GABA, if the supplement you have is just plain GABA, return it and get your money back. GABA cannot cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) by itself. It's totally useless and will not potentiate your Clonazepam or your Subs. Phenibut is the way to go if you're interested in using GABA - Google it.

EDIT: Oh and hey, here is a Kava + Clonazepam trip report from Erowid that you might want to check out: http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=24960

This is my first post in a while... but I will say that this is the best combo you can combine with clonazepam, or any other substance for that matter.
In particular, tagamet and grapefruit juice are the real potentiators, while the others named in the quoted post will help put you in that mood, they are not directly potentiating benzos. Tagamet (specifically) and white grapefruit juice (has it, but not so specific) inhibit the metabolism (breadown) of benzos, so taking these beforehand can lead to a longer, if not stronger, experience.

Especially taking heed to laCster's warning about the opiate+benzo combo; they are *excellent* together, but will put you in respiratory depression easier than one would believe. Take lower doses of both if it is the fist time combining these two.

Well alcohol & opiates are the obvious ones, though they do increase the risk for OD drastically
I've always found that just having a couple beers while on benzos emphasized their effects quite a bit.

pregabalin & gabapentin can potentiate benzos incredibly, depending on dosage, so be careful. alcohol will potentiate benzos but this is not something i can encourage, as the results are unpredictable and the combination has a steep dose-response curve with all kinds of potential negative implications.

You should read my thread about picamilon. I've found that it provides incredible potentiation waaay beyond what you'll get from gfj. To me it's debatable whether gabapentin and lyrica actually solely potentiate benzos or are just act as an additional, separate high that causes you to be more fucked up.

Meh, this is post 17 so it will probably have been mentioned atleast ~14 times already, but gfj worked pretty well on xanax for me.
There's the obvious few glasses of alcohol - but if you mean "non-psychoactive" by natural, nevermind that.

valerian (slight potentiation), gabapentin (pretty good potentiation), mj (nice synergy)

Ofcourse you probably don't want to hear this, but the best idea is to taper down a bit for a while when facing these problems. Small increments so it doesn't suck too much, till you feel like you do now from half your current dose. Then take a double dose from time to time without feeling guilty. Success!

Well, that's what you could do.

After a while those potentiators will stop working too as your tolerance to the potentiators will go up aswell and your body will also adjust to newly achieved blood plasma concentration.
