(Opiates) Does increasing dose increase tolerance (with frequency staying the same)?

My typical dosage is around 20mg of hydrocodone or oxycodone.

My frequency is once a week and I have not had any increase in tolerance at this schedule, going on 10+ years.

I have no desire to increase my frequency and never have--I simply don't like being high more than once a week; I like the fact that it's a "special occasion".

If I were to increase this once a week dosage to make the special occasion even more "special"--say, 30-40mg, would it continue to work this way?

Or is there some kind of response like with MDMA where receptors will "down-regulate" at a certain dosage and take more than a week to recover like I've been able to do at 20mg?

id say before you jump all the way to 30+, give 25 a try or just 30. you have a full week to make the transition after you first up dosed it, just see how you react to it.

If you continue this schedule, I think that your tolerance will remain roughly the same.

for sure, I was thinking of that as being a maximum dose; sorry, I should have clarified that!




It probably seems like my tolerance has increased since I'm taking 20mg and I didn't start off that way.

But 5mg still feels like 5mg and 10mg like 10mg and so on...

It's just that when I started, I didn't know what more than 5mg felt like.

and now that I've had more experience (having IV dilaudid in the hospital for example) I see what more potential there is.

but like I said I just don't want to get in a situation where I need more to get the same effect.

If you want to go up in dose, you will want to stay there, and yes tolerance of some sort would increase. I do commend you for using opiates for 10 + years without addiction, and keeping your dose so low. If you want to up your dose a little, try jumping to 25 mg as mentioned above.
