High-strength marijuana plants have been found just yards from the luxury home of slain terror chief Osama Bin Laden.
Hundreds of the exotic green flower have flourished for a number of years on the border of the war lord's secret compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
Despite being a short walk from a military training academy dubbed 'Pakistan's Sandhurst', the illegal crop had remained undiscovered

aren't all intoxicants banned in Islam?

I'm not sure about your question specifically (I imagine this point is debatable to Muslims, but I am not familiar with the Koran so I can't comment), but I have always associated this area (i.e. Afghanistan, Pakistan, northern India etc) with the consumption of cannabis. Marijuana has been cultivated there for several thousands years. Familiar names for strains of marijuana used in the West, such as "Hindu Kush" or "Khyber Afghani," are references to this region even.

On a side note, Opiates are historically cultivated and currently widely used there as well, especially in war torn Afghanistan. I do believe their use is considered more taboo than cannabis though, especially as heroin overtakes opium in popularity.

^yeah like I know when the taliban was in control they were killing people if they grew poppies, and all the 'dry' arab countries, death penalties for small amounts n what not... I figured there must be some kind of religious reason

IIRC, I think it comes down to the fact that it's alcohol that's specifically mentioned in the Koran as verboten for Muslims, but other drugs are not mentioned. So, some (the more conservative, puritanical types) interpret this as a ban on all intoxicants, while others take this to mean non-alcohol intoxicants are allowable.

/take this with a grain of salt though, I am not very familiar with Islam, I could be way off base here.

His extremist ideas were based off his devilish insight under the influence of the deadly drug Marijuana!

LOL,OH no he had the deadly Reefer Madness!!! LOL..it's no suprise that weed plants are around his compound or near a military base in Pakistan. That whole region of the world has used and grown cannabis for thousands of years, especially India and Afghanistan,Pakistan, also Eygpt,Morrocco, much of Africa, Much of Tibet, Laos,Vietnam,Thailand, Burma,etc..they normally smoke hashish though, at least in the past.
I read in a magazine that almost a million Afghan people use heroin or smoke Opium , up from lower levels in the past, and heroin use is up 400% or something, the people that used to smoke opium have switched mostly to heroin becasue for about two dollars a half gram of high grade heroin now..Also high numbers of Pakistani's and Iran people are heroin addicts, Iran having several million heroin addicts it is estimated..

36 mafia - bin laden weed... Who knew they were on to something? Thats why that mother fucker had 15 ft high concrete walls. Didnt want some grubby fucker stealing his head stash.

Wild growing weed plants are very common in Afghanistan, it's not news that some of them were near his compound. I strongly doubt he was growing and smoking them.
