Explosion victim was making hash oil

I feel bad for him, but he's a fucking idiot.

What he was doing was irresponsible and borderline negligent. What if his house had caught his neighbors house on fire, what if firemen and first responders were injured in a second explosion? What if there was a child or even a pet with him?

From what i can tell, dude was fucked up as hell chillin in underpants, trying to make hash oil in an extremely dangerous way, indoors, without ventilation, with a solvent with a low flash point, and an open flame.

Sad, i feel sorry for him. On fire in his underwear? damn....
Rule # 1: Don't do an extraction indoors ....
Rule # 2: No ignition sources (ie; cigarettes etc etc)
Rule #3 : No baggy clothing
Rule # 4: Do not use crap like a pringles can to do extraction (instant hand cannon of death, sparks can happen from metal no matter how careful u are)
Rule # 5: Know what you are doing!!!

Yes this is a harm reduction site, and some of the biggest points of harm reduction is knowledge and looking out for others. I mean come on, a quick search through CD wouldve probably saved this guys ass! So no I don't feel sorry for this guy, he's pretty much the opposite of what bluelight stands for. Wish I had some honey...

That's right, people who are not informed deserve to be hurt. I guess that same logic holds true for the heroin addict who doesn't send the bags he cops off to a lab to be tested for purity before he shoots them. If he ODs, like so many people we know, then that's his own fault, shoulda did his research, RIGHT?

One time my little brother was stilling some moonshine in his basement with lab glassware and his friend used a lighter to check the temperature of the still -- my little brother just stared at him and shook his head.

When I was young I nearly blew myself up stilling on a stove in a closed room too, but that's a story for another day... When you're drunk/high things often seem more logical than they are, especially when you're a teen.

my buddy at work, this happened just a couple of doors down from his apartment. its rediculous that making hash is illegal even with a medicinal permit...

I don't agree with the law, but I understand the logic. It is the same in the Netherlands as well.

This is the same difference between having coca leaves or cocaine, or Mimosa Hostilis rootbark as opposed to pure DMT, having San Pedro Cactus or having raw mescaline.

Having pure alkaloid extracts is different from having the plant source.. again, this is not something I agree with but it is logical.

And the fact that with THC extractions most solvents are highly explosive, and their products are mind altering.

I love oil, but people should never smoke while making it, and most people should smoke before either, so they can safely do a run.

This guy followed NO Safety precautions, so there is NO need to feel sorry for him, he is a moron....

Do you believe everything you read online or in the paper. He was not in his underwear he had shorts on, he has done this numerous times and is not I repeat IS NOT careless, he was not fucked up, he isn't that stupid. Shame shame shame on you all for being so judgmental. We don't know what happened, he has blocked it out. My brother has 3rd degree burns over 80% of his body because he was trying make his medicine.

Sorry. Best of luck with his recovery.

Jesus....I am so, so sorry to hear this. This is why I ranted at everyone in this thread, no matter what happened noone deserves 3rd degree burns on 80% of their body.

Your brother will be in my thoughts.

As far as I and many of the other people on here are concerned, he is no more responsible than a victim of their own DUI or other negligent act. Whether he was fucked up or not doesn't really matter as he completely failed to take any safety precautions;
both him and his family or co-inhabitants are lucky that he only hurt himself and didn't kill anyone or burn down an apartment complex, etc.

It is common sense that one should not use chemicals with explosive volatile vapors indoors without a vent hood; and on any solvent he would have bought anywhere, I guarantee that there was a warning of serious injury, death, and explosion hazards posted on the warning label for the product. Both Isopropyl alcohol and butane, the two most common solvents, have this.
I am truly sorry for the tragic events that have befallen you and your family, and I hope your brother recovers, but don't tell us we are insensitive, we probably know the dangers better than anyone else.

Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts, my goal here was not to start a debate, this is not my field of expertise. You are right no one deserves to be injured in any way. To muvolution, mocking someone is insensitive, and the posts are read were doing just that. seems like some people on here were having quite a chuckle at the misfortune of someone else, that is just gross, no matter what the reason. My brother has been doing this for a very long time. I don't know what happened, all I know is that he is in bad shape. He is not a stupid man, he has been lecturing on the uses of medical marijuana for years here. Just wanted to set the record straight as much as I could. Thank you again for your kindness.

Did they lay charges or are the police acting compassionately in this case?

So sorry for the horrible thing that happened to him.
My thoughts are with him as he recovers.

It is amazing how your post made this entire event take on much more reality and humanity in many of our minds.
Before your post, it was not really like it happened to a person; it was just some guy in the news. Please understand this, and forgive our heartless responses.

The police say they are watching and waiting, but they say they will lay charges eventually. You would think he has been punished enough. He is still listed in critical condition, but he is a fighter and he will continue to be strong on persevere, and if and when they lay charges we will all fight. Thank you so much for your concern

Thank you, that was my only intention. I understand and forgive. We all do it, me included, so lesson learned all around :) The paper wrote such sensational bullshit, hard to make an informed decision. Thank you again so much:)

That's appalling that they are going to lay charges. Get lawyered up, and start working now on a grass roots level to build community support against that.

It really saddens me to hear about this.

I hope it won't play into the debate about the relevance of cannabis as a medical entity.

I wish the man well and a quick recovery.
