Evidence, including 500 bags of heroin, cash and drug paraphernalia Sparta Police seized during a Saturday night motor vehicle stop on state Route 15 in Sparta, is displayed at police headquarters Monday in Sparta. Christopher Ennis, 31, of Branchville, was arrested on multiple drug charges and is being held in Sussex County Jail.
SPARTA — A minor traffic infraction Saturday night turned into a major drug seizure that resulted in a Branchville man being arrested and charged with using a young child in a distribution scheme, police said.
Police said Christopher Ennis, 31, stashed 500 bags of heroin, along with packaging materials and drug paraphernalia, underneath children’s toys in a black gym bag in his car. A 5-year-old juvenile was a passenger in Ennis’ car when he was pulled over on Route 15 Saturday.
Ennis is being held in the Sussex County jail in lieu of $70,000 bail.
At 10:43 p.m. Saturday, police stopped a blue 2000 Ford Explorer, driven by Ennis, on Route 15 North for displaying an out-of-date 2008 inspection sticker. The Explorer was following a brown 1998 GMC Jimmy, which was also stopped for having fictitious license plates. Police determined the two vehicles were traveling together. The driver of the GMC, Alexander Dewer, 43, of Milford, Pa., was arrested when his driver’s license was found to be suspended. While he was being taken into custody, police saw a glassine wrapper — commonly used to package heroin — in plain view on the driver’s side floor.
.......
Police obtained consent to search the Explorer and found a black gym bag filled with children’s toys, with 500 bags of heroin, packaging materials and paraphernalia hidden underneath. Ennis was arrested, and he and Dewer were transported to police headquarters for processing. The child in Ennis’ car was taken into protective custody.
...............
After interviewing Ennis, officers took a voluntary video statement in which Ennis said he brought the 5-year-old along so he would appear less suspicious to law enforcement, adding that he believed, if he was stopped, police wouldn’t search a child’s toy bag.
Ennis was charged with using a juvenile in a drug distribution scheme, possession with intent to distribute heroin, child abuse, possession of hypodermic needles and possession of drug paraphernalia.
........................
Officers Marc Rubino and Richard Smith are conducting the investigation.

Another article I read from the NY daily news, stated that the cops told them the value of those 500 bags was $10,000. LOL. Try dividing that by 4 and youd be a little closer, and that still is more than the real cost if it was sold wholesale.
I figured some of the sussex county heads on here would get a kick out of this. Ive spent some time up in that part of the state and Route 15 is like THE heroin highway. For a certain part of the county, rt 15 is the only way to "the city"--you gotta take it to get to route 80, etc, all the highways that bring u to paterson or Newark, unless you drive on the little back roads thru towns and shit. So the Sparta Police and the State police both just chill on the highway like hawks waitin to swoop down on their prey. Sometimes they pull over cars on rt 15 south, and if they look like they are goin down to cop (these cops know all the signs of that shit) they let them go, then they go wait on the northbound side of the highway for them to come back up and then they pop em on their way back from coppin. Ive even heard stories of them workin with the paterson and newark police--the city cops will run plates and see these kids from Sparta, Sussex, etc coppin dope, and call up the police in the kids home towns tell them "a green ford explorer plate number XXXXXX just did a drug transaction, heading west on route 80 now" and then the hometown cops wait for them and pull em over and arrest them on the way home. All kinds of shit like that, its really nutz. Ive talked to alot of kids from up there in the methadone clinics and NA meetings and shit like that, the cops go hard up there, especially cuz they are sooo eager to "get" the heroin users since its such a 'scourge on the county' u feel me?
route 15 is a horrible road to take if you a junkie, thats for sure. its just swarming with cops. Once i was drivin on there and had been clean a while and the cop was interrogating me for like 20 minutes totally convinced i had dope on me tryna search my car and shit.
BTW, Sparta is a super rich 'snooty white folks" town. There is a huuuuge heroin problem there. In sussex county in general every other week in the local papers theres a 'big story' about how heroin is infested all over the county. Mad kids under 25, some of them 16, 17 yrs old, in the obituaries for overdoses and shit, its crazy. Just like anywhere else with a heroin 'problem' tho i guess.
So anyways,im done with my comments for now just thought this was a interesting story, and shame on that fuckin guy for using his kid in his dope copping scheme, piece of shit shady mutha fucka. Also, who the fuck carries 500 bags of dope with a 2008 registration sticker, fake license, bad plates, and all that other shit? Straight stupid yo. its one thing to go cop when you sick as fuck and hope to just avoid the boys....but to go pick up 10 bricks you best have your fuckin papers right. guess these fools didnt think so tho. I guarantee they were drivin together so that the one guy could 'cover' the other one from gettin pulled over, mad people do a 'dope train' and ride one after the other, so the guy with the dope has a clean car behind him at all times that way a cop can never get behind him. these suckas couldnt even get THAT right tho, could they? Bet they go down hard too, cuz those folks are just dyin to punish somebody for bein the "drug dealer" that "brings" the heroin into town and "gets the kids addicted."
