A New York City police officer pleaded guilty on Monday to charges that he participated in a ring that robbed drug dealers, an operation that officials say yielded more than 550 pounds of cocaine and $1 million in drug proceeds.

The case against the officer, Emmanuel Tavarez, 31, was scheduled to go to trial in Federal District Court in Brooklyn before Judge Sandra L. Townes, with jury selection set for Monday.

Mr. Tavarez, who joined the force in July 2002, spent most of his career with the Transit Bureau. Prosecutors said he used his badge and fake search warrants to conduct raids on the drug dealers. He and his co-conspirators then kept the drugs and money taken in those raids.

^ I would disagree about the NYPD, they are corrupt but the NJPD is just chock full of corrupt motherfuckers. I got stopped once going to Patterson, I had a brick and $600 in my car, a cop pulled me over and I was damn near pissing my pants because he just came out of NOWHERE. He comes up and introduces himself, Officer Travis, and tells me to get out of the car and just starts searching it. I tell him he needs permission and he tells me to just shut up and put his hand on his gun, so I shut up...

A few minutes later he pulls the brick and the $600 out of my stash spot and laughs at me, then he gives me my brick back, takes the $600, puts it in his pocket and tells me to get on 80 and get the fuck out of his city. Needless to say I was pretty much in shock, but I got on 80 and drove out just waiting to get pulled over or something thinking he called the description of my car in or something, but he didn't.....He just robbed me and let me go.

I was pissed about losing $600 but I figure that's a good price to pay for not getting another charge and wasn't trying to spend my time in the Patterson County Jail. True story, scared the hell outta me.

WHATT?!?!?!?!? You have gotta be shittin'!!?!? that is crazy, but honestly I can believe that... Police are all corrupt... What kinda human wants to put another human in jail and take away their freedoms because they catch them with a substance that the gov't says is illegal...? makes no sense..

I put that on my life that it's true. Was a huge jacked skinhead lookin white cop named 'Officer Travis'. My friends and I have a inside joke whenever we see a huge jacked white dude with a shaved head, and we always call them 'Officer Travis'.

It was right around 4pm that this happened so maybe it was close to shift change and he just didn't want to deal with the paperwork, either way I didn't look a gift horse in the mouth and I got my ass on 80 and did 70 on cruise control the whole goddamn way thinking whether or not I should ditch the brick out the window or something.

I also watched a video on Frank Serpico in Criminal Justice 2 and in it it said the same thing about the NYPD but the NJPD seems equally if not more corrupt after reading your post.

Imagine what that reprobate of a police officer is going to go through in jail!

Well he is surely going to 'check-in' (request protective custody).

He'll likely spend his time in 23 hour lockdown, for probably the duration. Might have piss thrown into his cell daily, and will probably be forced to have a child molester as a bunk mate. I say it serves him right, just for being a cop. All cops should be subject to this.

^I wasn't Bricks, I had already copped the brick and was heading to find some soft for a friend which is what the $600 was for, the dope man didn't mess with soft so he sent me up the road. Bout 3 blocks up is where I got pulled over, hence the phrase:

got stopped once going to Patterson

I have heard a ton of stories that go the same way.

The cops either take money + drugs, or just drugs, and let the person go on their way as usual.

Yea it didn't surprise me whatsoever that they took the money, but the fact that he gave me the brick back was fucking unbelieveable. My guess is that if he took that as well he would have to explain it when he got back to the station and probably fill out paperwork.

Either way, long story short, I got robbed by a cop who gave me 50 bags of heroin back...

At least he didn't take the brick. Tons of cops would have taken the brick, AND the $600...

You are right, but it's not like he did it because he was a nice guy. Giving back the brick saves him the hassle of doing the paperwork and makes it much less likely the stolen $600 will get mentioned
