Ive got some vicoprofen pills. Its 7.5 mg hydrocodone and 200 mg ibuprofen. I looked up online that you can only take 800 mg of ibuprfofen a day, thats 4 pills. I used to take 6 a day and be fine. I was wondering, how much should be my limit? Both on the hydro and ibuprofen. Also, is there an extraction method for this?

Your limit should be the recommended 800mg a day limit, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

We can't tell you what your hydrocodone limit is without knowing your tolerance, history, medical conditions, any other drugs/supplements you're taking, etc.

If you're taking six pills a day that's 1200mg ibuprofen and 45mg hydrocodone per day. Is that the dosage you feel comfortable with?

Get as low as you can.

But, my girlfriend's mother has been on Norco 10 mg/325 apap x5 and Ibu 800mg x3 for years.... You are probably beating the shit out of your stomach, liver, kidneys, etc. But, as a one time thing, I think it is relatively safe.

It is prescribed.

She gets the prescription strength 800mg pills and prescribed the Norco as well (among other things) with the Norco and Ibu prescribed by the same doc. And I know it is a ton, but, the OP said he has some, which does not sound like a lot.

Permanent Damage comes at around 3 G of APAP right?
The prescribing limit to Ibu is 3.2 G. So....

My experience (no strength or hope) suggests as a one time thing it would be relatively harmless.

Some Drs I know are more comfortable giving OxyContin than Panacod (60mg codeine 500mg APAP) or codeine with ibuprofen as the has been so many cases of liver damages and mostly stomach damages including internal bleeding with use of ibuprofen in the media currently. And there has been a discussion that ibuprofen should not be no longer OTC product here.

With the ever increasing prevalence of the internet, information has been more readily available than ever before. When I was a lad, we just said fuck it and saw what happened.

I am happy people are more responsible nowadays...

As am I, the U.S. FDA took a step in the right direction by limiting narcotic/APAP combination products to 325mg APAP per dosage unit, now they need to do something similar with ibuprofen.

If you do a little searching on the internet, it seems that APAP is worse for the GI tract and liver. It also seems that the deleterious effects start sooner and at lower dosages with APAP.

While I agree with what you said earlier about the importance of people informing themselves, there is unfortunately some misinformation in the posts above.

4 grams of APAP can safely be consumed daily according to the FDA and common individual dosages are between 325-2000mg. Permanent damage from acute APAP toxicity is substantially higher than 3 grams. Most people can probably take 3g of APAP a day for most of their lives and not damage their liver at all.

Taking massive APAP doses acutely or taking larger doses daily (4g +) IS certainly dangerous but you're mischaracterizing the levels where this danger presents.

Lastly, while APAP is certainly worse for the liver than NSAIDs it is not worse for the GI tract where NSAIDs most common adverse reactions include dyspepsia, nausea, ulceration/bleeding and other GI problems. APAP overuse can definitely cause GI side effects but not as frequently or severely as NSAIDs such as ibuprofen.

OP - many people can safely take up to 3.2 grams of ibuprofen daily while others are far more sensitive to side effects such as the aforementioned GI ones. Unless you plan on using large doses for long periods, you should be fine by staying within the prescribing guidelines and/or concomitantly taking antacids (preferably a proton pump inhibitor).

The 800mg/day level for ibuprofen is what is required to be listed on labels of over the counter preparations but don't mistake this as maximum safe levels such as the 4g mark with APAP.

So the next assumption would be that narcotic/ibuprofen would have been more prudent to reformulate than narcotic/APAP despite the fact that narcotic/APAP is much more common?

I'm not sure I could answer that - they both have substantial problems associated with their overuse so I don't think I am educated enough to know with the way they are used, which one proportionally produces more damage.

I think the most prudent move would be to not prescribe combination medications and develop alternatives without the added APAP/NSAIDs but that's unlikely to happen and for moderate to severe pain, products such as vicodin, Tylenol 3, vicoprofen, norco, etc. will still be used in the foreseeable future.

So... CWE, CWE, CWE if you abuse these medications or are therapeutically using them beyond safe limits (which should not have to happen but sometimes does).
