I like benzos. but dr dont like precribing them. ofcourse i had no trouble getting ADs
im wondering if anyone has had any experiences with ADs that have actually had a calming effect rather than a stimulant effect

Well tricyclic anti-depressants such as amitriptyline, doxepin and a few others have rather sedating effects. So does mirtazepine which is a serotonin norepinephrine enhancer with a strong anti-histamine effect.

ive had mirtazepine. didnt make me calm. nor does sedating anithistamines. but yeah they are good for insomnia. i rate otc stuff more sedating than irtazepine.
dont know about the rest u mentioned. just dont want a jittry effect from an AD

Trazodone is calming for some people as well. Most of the tricyclics are. In fact, sometimes doctors prescribe them off-label for insomnia.

Edit:

Anon54, I edited the title of your thread for easier searching. :)

tricyclics have a sedative effect while both tricyclics and SSRIs have a calming effect, although with SSRIs you have to take them ffor about a month get a noticable effect.

seroquel or trazadone

Seroquel is not an antidepressant, it's an antipsychotic.

Anyways, here's a list of sedating antidepressants:

Amitriptyline, lomipramine, doxepin, and trimipramine.

Then there is trazodone, buspirone, mirtazapine (this is a rather good one), vilazodone, hydroxyzine, pregabalin, and gabapentin.

pregabalin and gabapentin aren't antidepressants.
