Are these substances less harmful to the heart in a physically fit person? I mean, wouldn't the heart be able to "handle" stimulants better since it's used to beating at like 140+ a couple times per week? I don't mean exercising while tweaked, that would just be retarded, but in a recreational sense, is an athletic heart better protected than the average drug users heart when engaging in stimulant use?

initially, i'd venture a guess and say "yes", a fit person can take more abuse than an unfit one.

not really, being more in shape doesnt necessarily make one more immune to the effects of these substances. it might have a slight negating effect, but its still going through your body and getting processed the same way. it just may change the way you take them and the way you are able to handle them, but you cant really change the potential harm you get from them.

but yes having a stronger heart can be beneficial to you if you use stimulants.

I would think that a healthier heart could better endure and suffer less damage than an unhealthy heart. You are not doing your body any favors either way...(I am the pot calling the kettle black.....)

Cocaine is directly cardiotoxic.

No shit, but surely an athlete's heart will be able to withstand the toxic effects more than a couch potato's heart, at least, that's what I'm wondering.

Sounds crazy but sometimes I even think that running intense sprints and double cardio sessions isn't doing the heart any favors, either.

^ I can see where you're coming from...I think cardio can go too far just like using stimulants can go too far.

I also think that somebody who's heart is in bad shape probably sustains more damage from stimulant use than somebody who's heart is in great shape from exercise.

Of course, there are a lot of other factors to consider...

Probably not with cocaine, as it's a sodium channel blocker and threatens the heart chemically, not only through rapid heartbeats or raised blood pressure. People in excellent shape have been known to have heart attacks on cocaine.

If the stimulant is not directly toxic in some way, this can be the case. It all depends on dosage, though.

Exactly. Cocaine (and more particularly, cocaine and alcohol in proximity) are known to cause heart attacks in individuals who are very young and otherwise perfectly healthy. The cocaethylene formed by combining alcohol and cocaine is toxic throughout other organ systems as well.
