Effective ways of testing what drugs you've got

As a measure of harm reduction, I've gotten into the habit insufflating just the tiniest amount of a drug before I really go for it. I just snort up literally a few grains of whatever powder I've got, then wait about 15 minutes, to see whether I feel any pain, sickness, I throw up, drop dead, whatever. This is basically to see whether my drug has any lethal cuts or adulterants in it like arsenic or whatever. If I feel normal after 15 mins, I snort up another tiny, but slightly less tiny than before, amount, and wait another 15 minutes. Then if its all good, I feel confident my drug is free of lethal cuts. I have only tested my drugs like this less than ten times, but I have never had any internal pain or sickness after using the drug, which means as far as I know, I've never ingested anything toxic this way.

1. Is this an effective way of testing my drugs to see whether there is anything lethal in it? Is it worthwhile?

2. My main question is: how much precaution do you take with drugs? Do you always buy off someone you completely trust? Do you use testing kits? Do you just take the risk? Do you ever get lethal things in your drugs?

Yes, it is known as an "allergy test" and is a good habit to get into when working with substances you don't know of, don't know the purity of, etc.

-When it comes to pills being sold as "Ecstasy", a testing kit is always the best option
-I don't buy RCs anymore, and I don't get near branded RCs
-I always acquire substances from people I know and trust

"Just taking the risk" is the opposite of harm reduction. Common sense is the way to go, and always err on the side of caution. :)
