Weighing only 110 pounds and standing just 5 foot 4, Sara Dedek doesn’t look like the most dangerous inmate at the Cook County Jail.

But the pint-sized, pink-haired mother of two put two Chicago cops in the hospital after she was caught injecting heroin in University Village, prosecutors allege.

Dedek, 26, tried to hide her syringe after police officers spotted her shooting up in a parked car near 14th and Emerald Saturday morning, according to a police report.

Taken to the Monroe District police station, she punched and shoved two female officers down a flight of stairs, prosecutors told Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Sunday morning.

One officer suffered a broken ankle, while a second damaged the ligament in her left hand.

Dedek, who pouted at a male friend who was following proceedings in court on Sunday, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, as well as possession of a controlled substance.

Panarese set her bail at $150,000.

^ Because of the adrenaline, I have shot heroin several hundred times, you don't just nod right out and become incapacitated afterwards. I actually get an energetic rush after doing dope, I usually don't get noddy til an hour or two later.

Hitting cops isnt the brightest thing to do. The judge is gonna throw the book at her. She should have just driven off & if she couldnt, well, just try to explain to the cops & judge that you're a junky & need help quitting......im sure they may have been lenient on her but social services might have taken her kids away. Unless she has a husband, they will probably take her kids away, especially after beating up 2 cops.

junkie parents just suck flies off walls

How exactly do you know that she isn't a good parent? I know several people who use drugs and have kids and unless you were told that they did drugs you would never know.

I understand that there are people who obviously put their drugs above their children, but to just classify anyone who uses drugs as a junkie scumbag who as you so eloquently put 'suck flies off walls' is somewhat ignorant.

a very minor whiff of karma for the pigs (i think "dogs" might be a better term... the pigs pay the dogs...)

when our officers start to see combat with cartels, they'll get their full share of karma.

I agree all drug users aren't bad parents.. but if you are an IV drug user (bad enough off to injecting public nonetheless) I think it is safe to say your priorities are not in the right place.

^ There are several ways of seeing it though. She could very well be using in her car just because she didn't want to take anything in the house with her children. I know that it's probably not the case, but I don't think we should be so broad as to classify all parents who use drugs via IV administration as 'bad parents' as Hobhead has.

^ She didn't want to take anything in her house with her children?
But she doesn't mind going home and nodding off while taking care of them?
Or she has someone else raising her kids for her so she can pursue her heroin habit?

I don't see much possibility that she can be even a reasonably good mother while addicted to heroin to the extent that she is shooting up in her car in a parking lot.
Addiction to such a drug demands front and center in the addict's mind and heart. There is only a small, back room for her children. Children do not deserve to be raised in this way. It is totally unfair to them.

That said, I don't think she should lose her kids, but simply be sent to rehab and drug checked (for heroin, and other addictive drugs like meth and crack) after she is out. If she is clean, she should certainly get her kids back.

^ Yea you're right, even better let's just shoot all parents that struggle with addiction, because obviously only single 20 year olds should be allowed to use drugs without anyone judging them.

Umm h ow do you know one of the children's grandparents don't have custody or unoffically care for the kids. Before you say well shes a shitty mother then too, maybe she sees them every single day and shows them all kinds of love.

I hope someone else has custody of the kids, being in a foster care enviroment is 100x worse than even having a single mother junkie for a parent.

Some people do manange to have an iv habit and still take excellent care of their kids, what would ylou say if she worked 2 jobs and was studying to better herself and the kids didn't get as much attention as they could otherwise?? Its just not always a perfect world where theres a man to bring home the bacon and a woman to play housewife and watch the kids and cook and clean.

i'm pretty sure that most normal women, including those who got themselves dependent on a drug for whatever reason, do what they can for their children...

if you want to blame something for the suffering of so many kids in bad situations... blaming prohibition, racist socio-economic systemic exploitation, or our entire concept of money and responsibility, might be a better place to start...

the mother may be in a bad spot... but that's because society itself is. and we're all in this together...

This is my point exactly, the article simply does not give enough information for us to be so judgemental of her. If the article said that this was her third time getting caught and she was a single mother and her kids were living in squalor in their 2 room apartment then I would gladly be yelling from the top of my lungs that she deserves to be caged.

She may very well love her children with all her heart and hate herself for not being able to kick her habit, anyone on here who's been addicted to heroin knows just how difficult that can be.

What? I'm sorry but you can't have an IV habit and take excellent care of your kids. You are doing something illegal and every time you are copping/using you are commiting a felony and risking putting yourself in jail. If you put yourself in jail your kids are going into foster care. You cannot by definition be an excellent parent while risking putting your kids into foster care every day. Although it is unlikely, a 110lb woman may also be raped or killed or beaten while in the hood copping. Also the risk of overdosing every time a new bag comes on the scene. Putting yourself in this situation is not excellent parenting.

So if it was her third time getting caught and she was a single mother this would be totally wrong, but if she is married and this is her first time getting caught it is no big deal? Seriously, what is the difference?

I understand addiction and I certainly empathize with her, but that doesn't put her in the right by any stretch of the imagination. This doesn't mean she needs to be crucified (obviously) but the home life of the children should certainly be examined.

I've known enough junkies to know some of them are in fact terrible parents. I really have no idea why you assume she is some great mom who just happens to be banging heroin on the side as this is extremely unlikely. To be blunt, great moms do not shoot dope (or attack cops!)

Like I said earlier the very act of copping/doing heroin is illegal and every time you do it you are putting not only your self but your kids at risk as well. I'm not saying this lady doesn't love her kids or she is a bad person but she certainly isn't acting like a good mom right now.

^ I gotta agree with Villian here.
IV heroin users risk jail or death with each shot.
No mother who is really devoted to her children could do that. (Fathers, too.)

Anyone who is addicted to heroin is focused on herself, and her own needs. The needs of their kids necessarily must come second. This is not an excellent parent.
Excellent parents take good care of themselves, but need to be devoted to their kids.
IV heroin addicts are devoted to heroin.

if you want to blame something for the suffering of so many kids in bad situations... blaming prohibition, racist socio-economic systemic exploitation, or our entire concept of money and responsibility, might be a better place to start...

Agreed. I am not trying to blame anyone, but I am simply saying that it is not possible, given my personal values, to be a heroin addict and an excellent, devoted parent at the same time.

i'd counter that many non-"addicted" parents are not excellent, devoted parents as well.

it's a lifestyle, and the statistics between lifestyles differ. but drugs and their effects on the brain aren't that different from technologies (the withdrawal isn't always that different, either)... in fact, drugs are technology/tools...

this is devil's advocate. i'm well aware of the tragic situations where drug abuse is involved.

^ I agree that some non-addicted parents are not great parents, but I am saying that parents addicted to heroin cannot be devoted.

( I also believe this about alcoholic parents, though to a lesser extent, but not about those addicted to caffeine or tobacco. My personal values certainly come into play here.)

Note: I am not saying that such parents should go to jail, or lose their kids.
Instead, I support the idea of helping them with treatment.

responsible parenting and drugs...This bitch aint an example of that

Becuz she was fuckin shooting dope in a parked car somewhere after copping.

Sounds like she was definately putting drug use before her kids to me.

If you are willing to do somethin super risky like that, knowing that if you get caught you are gonna lose your kids for sure, just cuz you need to get high, then you really aint puttin your kids first.

Sure, you can argue that anybody whose doin illegal drugs as a parent is riskin losing their kids.

Well, if you gonna use dope, and you pay a trusted friend to deliver it to your house, get a babysitter so the kid aint around, and then do it in your safe private residence with the doors locked and nobody that knows you doin it, that is risking gettin arrested WAY less than a bitch like this that goes out, cops dope in the hood , somewhere that its mad easy to get arrested, then shoots up in her parked car on a fucking open street.

Copping, and usin in public places, are the 2 things that pretty much take your odds of gettin caught up into the fuckin stratosphere. Using at home, privately, with delivery, that pretty much eliminates all your odds of ANY kind of negative contact with anybody who could get you in trouble for it (other than if you OD at home, thats about the only situation that i can think of bein a problem.) But once you cop, and you use in public like bathrooms, parks, in your car in parkin lots, etc, if you are lookin to increase your odds of gettin arrested by 100, then doin those things is how you do that.

Let me tell you, as a fucking ex balls to the wall shoot dope til i die, hope i die with a needle in my arm junkie, and now a parent, if i ever did dope again i would NEVER FUCKING DO THAT SHIT nowhere but a place that is safe, private, and away from my kid.

IF you really DO care about your kid you dont fucking go cop dope in places where you KNOW its hot and you can very likely get arrested, and you sure as fuck dont go shoot up on a side street after you cop. Or even a side street ANYWHERE. i dont care if it was in the hood or not--you KNOW that when you shoootin up in parked cars its mad risky. And I dont know if this broad copped first or not since I dont know the area or if its a dope hood or not, but even if she didnt cop, she still puttin herself out there by gettin high in her damn car where any fuckin body could see her.

I use to boot up in fuckin, taco bell, housing developments, side streets in the hood after i copped, dunkin donuts, on the side of the road hiding behind a bush, here, there, anywhere, you name it i prolly got high there. but that shit is so damn risky. you KNOW it aint safe to do that and you got a waaaay higher percent of getting caught if you do it somewhere that aint safe and private. Now, when getting caught means you lose your kid, and you STILL DO SHIT THAT YOU HIGHLY LIKELY TO GET CAUGHT DOING, That dont say too much about your respect for your child.

If you do that shit, KNOWING that your chances of gettin caught are much higher than doin it somewhere else, and that if you do get caught, you lose your kids, and you still do it, then no, your kids aint first in your mind.

I know you aint thinkin of it from that point of view Mora cuz you aint a parent. But once you are, you re-look at shit and realize that shit you use to see as totally normal to do and not risky at all, takes on a whole new meaning. You dont take risks with drugs no more. Before you were a parent, goin to a Dunkin Donuts with a good lock on the door in a nice, non hood area far away from the dope spot, seemed like a very safe responsible place to shoot up. But once you got a kid, you be like , damn....Its more common for people to get busted shootin up in bathrooms than I ever liked to let myself realize before. All it takes is one cop on his coffee break knockin on the door becuz Im takin too long and catchin on for me to get arrested when i come out that bathroom. You feel me? You start to realize risks that you never considered before, and you get way more careful, if you even do the shit anymore.

To put yourself in a position like this broad did is a super risky position even without kids. If you got them, and you willing to do somethin like that, somethin that you KNOW aint safe, somethin that you KNOW you could get arrested for and the odds of gettin arrested doing that are way higher, and you know that if you do get arrested they are gonna take your kids away, and you still do it, thats basically like "yo, fuck my kids, I am willing to lose my children so that I dont have to be dopesick for the extra 20 minutes it would take to get somewhere safe."

When you aint riskin your children, Id say, yo, FUCK that 20 minutes--Im gettin high NOW!!! But when its your babies involved its a whole nother story. I would wait an extra 20 HOURS if it meant the difference between riskin losing my child or not, u feel me?

And just for the record, I dont do no drugs now. I stopped usin long before I ever became a parent. Im just talkin hypothetical if it was me. And that aint just a little bullshit 'disclaimer' like the kids all post "if somebody hypothetically had 3 bags of dope and hypothetically wanted to use them...." No, seriously, i dont use no drugs these days, I dont get dopesick cuz I dont use, I dont cop or get high in bathrooms or even at my own home. I cant take that risk right now, it aint worth it to me.

Again you guys don't know if she has offical custody of her kids, her parents or the daddys parents could have offical custody with her still seeing her kids a lot and being a good parent or the father could have offical custody, in any of these situations the pigs don't get to take the fucken kids just because she got busted with H since the kids weren't with her, if the kids where in the car with her I would agree shes a shitty parent but she had some situation setup where someone else was watching the kids while she was having mommy time, what if she was like some "normal" mom having lunch with her friends or working out or going on a dat or whatever, just because you don't spend every fucking second with your kids dosen't make you a bad mom, parents have to work sometimes go to school, have nights out etc, there has to be a balance. If doing heroin is this ladys mommy time then fuck it. And nothing about being on heroin while watching your kids short of taking them to the ghetto is bad parenting, most expierenced opiate users aren't even noticably high to other adults much less kids when their high.

Of all people I would think bluelighters would know this story does not really say 100% weather or not this lady is a good mother. Remove the illegal status from heroin and it'd be better than a mother drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes (risking giving kids lung problems asthma, etc).
