Hello. New to bluelight. Been on and off heroin/pills for about four years. Last stint with heroin has lasted about six months and I was on roxycontin for almost a year before that. Finally found my "one" and we're planning on marrying. Thing is, I may be pregnant, possibly up to two months. I haven't gone to a doctor, mainly cuz I hate them, but also cuz I live in tennessee and am not sure of the laws and drug testing protocol for new patients. We want to keep the baby, but I'm having trouble quitting. Suboxone is very hard to come by in my area. I use needles and have hep c. I need help finding ways to quit and information on harmful effects on fetuses from heroin, morphine, suboxone, subutex, and rare use of crack. If you're just gonna tell me to quit cold turkey or tell me I'm crazy for not going to a doctor, then don't bother posting. Also any info on laws in tennessee regarding drug use during pregnancy would be helpful. Thanks.

You can't say don't bother posting, because what they might be telling you could be the truth!

u should goto the doctor and be honest and tell them u really want to stop and they will help u and cant just call the police or child services on you

Crack is the one drug I would say to stop taking immediately.

Opiates are easier to wean off a dependent baby. They are less harmful to the fetus than one might initially fear if you didn't know this, but people who are pregnant and on opiates are often put on methadone, or buprenorphine.

What else would you want us to tell you? Keep feeding your baby drugs? It seems you wanna quit but are willing to do drugs along the way & doesnt matter the consequences with the baby. I never try to preach to anyone but when it comes to children, I get furious........:X

yea like said above methdone and subs are ok when pregnant but i agree with others about bringing a child into the world addicted to drugs ..and then if u not 100 percent serious about quitting and getting your life right thats not a good environment to raise a child in

A year ago I found out I was pregnant while I was on suboxone and my doctor made me switch to subutex which is supposed to be better for the baby. I ended up not being able to keep the baby, I couldn't bare the thought of having a child with special needs due to my being a drug addict. It was the hardest thing I have ever done, but it's not fair to bring a baby into the world addicted to drugs, imo. But the best advice I can give if you definitely want to keep the baby is to get on methadone or suboxone asap.

However, I would urge you to reconsider bringing a child into this world. There is a vast overpopulation of human beings.

I'm pretty sure that the time to reconsider bringing a child into this world is before that child is on the way. I find it ironic that a mod on a harm reduction site would advocate abortion.

Of course, it has come to be the norm that self is considered above all others, and that making a comment about killing an innocent child wouldn't make the average person bat an eye, but calling someone a junkie is gonna get you flamed off the board

To each their own I say, but kindly leave your opinions on eliminating children to yourself. This is a harm reduction site, in all matters, not just in drugs.

OP plainly stated she wants to keep her baby. This may be the motivation she needs to quit dope and give her a reason to get up every morning besides drugs. And if she can't handle it, there are plenty of loving people out there who would be ecstatic to have that baby.

Crack is the drug you absolutely need to quit now. Crack definitely damages the brain of the child and changes it... Remember, the baby has a brain not too long into pregnancy and it is a completely developed brain in the last portion of the pregnancy. As far as opiates, you need to get one opiate at least and stick to it, and to maintain with the opiate, not get any higher than you absolutely have to. The effects of opiates are much less than cocaine or even alcohol, but if used in doses too high (nodding out hard is too high) they certainly will inhibit development to some degree and have more drastic impacts on the health of the baby before and after birth. Find the lowest dose that works for you and maintain on that for now, decreasing the amount slowly if you feel able. Don't decrease fast enough to go into withdrawal as that will also impact the baby.

You have to get this under control for the health of your baby is the bottom line. Cocaine and alcohol and those type of drugs absolutely need to be stopped. Opiates can be used, but not more than you require. Please trust me on this.

Crack is the one drug I would say to stop taking immediately.

CH, I gotta say that I don't agree with some of this post... I mean, the situation is crazy, the mother doesn't want to quit drugs, but all we can do is give advice on the drug aspect of this and the health consequences. I don't think recommending abortion to someone who specifically said they didn't want to do it is the best thing here is what I'm trying to convey, she obviously knows that this is an option... We are staff on a harm reduction site after all, and advocating abortion on grounds of over-population is really not conducive to achieving our goals. I do agree that she really has to get her stuff under control if she is going to do this, though.

Did you even think before posting this? I fully support a woman's right to choose, but encouraging abortion on the basis of supposed 'world overpopulation' is absolutely ridiculous advice. I'm really shocked that you of all people would post something as thoughtless and frankly asinine as this.

To the OP - getting stabilized on suboxone or methadone can really minimize the risk to the pregnancy and baby. Several members here have been down this same road, so I'd encourage you to do some searching for their experiences.

You definitely need to see a doctor as soon as possible. There are medical steps that can be taken to minimize the risk of transmitting hepatitis C to the baby as well. Your doctor is going to be looking out for your well-being here, there's no need to worry about drug tests or anything like that. You definitely do have the option to keep the baby, you just need to see a doctor and take some proactive steps (in terms of medication) to get stabilized for it.

My suggestion is to get on methadone or subutex ASAP! And go to the doctor like yesterday! The doctorbis the onevwho is going to be able to help you and your baby! If you want to keepbthis baby you need proper care! And so does that baby! If you don't go to the doctor and keep doing what your doing you could potentially lose the baby or the baby will end up with a vast array of birth defects. Be smart and get ur ass to a doctor! All they are going to do is get you into a program most likely MMT for the good of you and that baby. Put all your fear aside, stop being selfish AND GO TO THE DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!

You won't be arrested for doing the right thing for you and the baby. The drugs ur taking now are far worse than a steady stable dose of methadone or subutex.

Please for your own babys sake and life GET TO THE DOCTOR!!!!!!

And I am speaking as a mother who was on methadone before, during and after pregnancy. I maintained a low dose my entire pregnancy. My child is a normal, healthy, happy, thriving, intelligent, fun kid. Although I didn't want to stay on methadone while pregnant bc I didn't want him born addicted I had to due to health issues and if I went off It I could have lost him. And all of that information came from doctors bc what I wanted and what was good for the baby and his life were two different things. So please I beg you to go to the doctor. They won't judge you or punish you. They will help you and your unborn child. They will not call child protective services or the police bc you are doing the right thing by getting the help that you so desperately need right now.

If you need any support or just someone to talk to who has been there before by all means PM me. Just please see a doctor.

Its perfectly safe, its not like speed where it will damage your baby. However your baby will be born addicted. So my suggestion would be to just cut back your use. And wait a second. You don't eve know if you have the baby, take a pregnecy test.

just throwing this out there it costs tons of money to ween a baby off opiates. and wheres ur money for opes gonna go its oging to go to the baby. so no win situation for u.

Yea honestly if you don't wanna go to a doctor and be serious about stopping all these drugs then that's very selfish and unfair to that baby. Crack must absolutely be stopped and I hope you don't even think you can get away with it a little. Please don't make somebody have to suffer a fucked up life because of your selfish choices. Get to a doctor and get on Methadone/Sub .

If you are truly that addicted that you will absolutely not stop then I'm sorry but I agree with CH. If you really want that kid than please do what is right for it even though you may suffer a little bit now. It's nothing compared to somebody suffering their whole life.

Honestly, you don't seem at all ready to have a kid.. If I found out I was pregnant (I'd quit doing drugs asap, give myself a massive taper, and prepare myself to raise a new born).. They're ridiculous amounts of work, if you want a kid, then you must be prepared to do ANYTHING for him/her.. Even if it means you going through hell and back.

i second everything he said ^ it is very very wrong to keep up ur habits while having a living fetus inside of you.. please stop being selfish and go see a doctor and get help.. you really need to stop abusing drugs, and as everyone else has said get on a low stable dose of methadone or suboxone.. so itleast the baby can have somewhat of a fighting chance.. and if you are not willing to do any of this, at all.. you really do not deserve to be bringing a child into this world, and the child def does not deserve to be brought into this world with an addiction that child did not or does not choose to have.. please make some good decisions, and if u dont care about making good decisions for yourself itleast think about making them for the damn child.. jeez..

you really need to think of the baby in this situation...if you've found someone who you think is the one then maybe you guys should spend some time exploring ways to clean up your act before you decide to have another one.

MMT is fda approved for pregnant women.

but you really need to consider the psychological, and genetic effects your having on the baby, predisposition to addiction at the very least. full blown addiction at birth is the worst case scenario (ever heard a baby cry from withdrawal?) kinda heart sickening to think about it.

if you're currently pregnant i would consider an abortion as it seems you really arent in a state to take care of yourself much less an infant at this stage in your life.
