hey guys

i'm writing a topic on drug decriminlization and naturally the topic of the Mexican drug war has come up

something i haven't been able to find from googling is how our drug policies affect and even stimulate the war?

all i can think of right now is that America has a huge drug market and the mexicans are feeding it.

sources are appreciated, i was trying to find something along the lines that the US receives the majority of mexican drugs, but couldn't

I think it's pretty obvious that the US consumes a large majority of the drugs manufactured or smuggled through Mexico. Also, US policy is without a doubt behind the Mexican presidents vandetta against the cartels. Unfortunately since many people cannot find work in Mexico that will allow them to feed their families, it's inevitable that people will turn to things like smuggling drugs to make money to survive.

what do you mean by this

I feel like without pressure from the US, the Mexico's president would not have started this war on the cartels like he's been waging for the past 5-6 years. It's not quite US policy, but an outstretching of it to Mexico.
