Opioids Opiates while tapering off Benzos

as long as you keep the doses low you will be fine. if you want to extra careful have someone with you so if anything did happen (which is highly unlikely given you keep the doses low) they can call for help.

remember, people mix opiates and benzos all the time. not that its smart or safe and some people do OD but it's possible to do it relatively safely.

as for the effects of opiates on withdrawal, i dont know if they could trigger seizures but i doubt it if youre tapering slowly. i am in protracted benzo withdrawal and i have no problems taking opiates.

Yeah, I mean I read about tons of people mixing the two with no problem, but I know it definitely can be dangerous. It's probably stupid that I'm even risking it while I'm tapering off benzos.

Also, thanks for the input on benzo withdrawal. What is protracted withdrawal, is that like Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS) which takes place after you're not actually taking benzos anymore? That's good to know you're not having any problems taking opiates, I'm not too worried about having a seizure.

id say it kind of sounds like your trying to go from one addiction to another. and let me tell you opiate dependence is not something you want. its no fun. and withdrawal from opiates sucks

Yeah I definitely don't want to taper off Benzos and then go to taking Opiates daily. After going through what I've experienced with fucking Benzos, I never want to have to do that again. I know nobody plans on getting addicted to things, but I keep my Opiate usage in check, usually 2 times a month at the most.

I also try to keep my tolerance in check, so I think once a month isn't too bad, or even a couple times a month. I've been doing this for over a year now. I don't know though, what do you guys think?

Like Capone just said, respiratory depression.

If you have NEVER combined opiates and benzos, I would proceed with caution. Both are CNS depressants and your body would essentially be so relaxed you stop breathing. I personally knew 4 people who died from taking too many opiates and benzos at the same time.

The first time you might want to take a lower dosage than you think you need of the opiates. Take more opiates if your initial dose is insufficient. Better to not get as high the first time then to go into a permanent and fatal nod.

For sure, thanks for the advice. I definitely am trying to be on the safe side of things. I took half my regular Opiate dose the first time, and then moved up from there. It works out pretty nice overall, just get super sick towards the end

I kind of relate to you as I've tapered down to taking 1 mg of clonazepam a day from doing about 10 -12 mg of xanax a day which had been a steady habit for almost half a year (no where near as long as two years though! good for you). I think that you can definately take low dosage ammounts of hydro or oxy. I definately used to shoot dope on top of my xanax (2 habits sucks), and while that was NOT a smart idea, and generally mixing the two is a bad Idea, I feel that at the dosages your talking about it should not be a problem. I've only gotten into trouble when mixing long acting opioids with benzo's, and while not to say that it's impossible to OD on short acting opiates and long acting benzo's, I don't think it's as likely. Just to be safe, I don't know when you take your valium and when your planning on taking your opiates but maybe space the two out a little bit, and if those dosages that you listed still get you buzzed, don't go higher than that, and I'm fairly confident you'll be OK

Great, thanks for the advice. I can't even imagine tapering down from 12mg Xanax a day, holy crap! 8o Yeah like you said, I've been trying to keep the Opiate dose relatively low, and I'm only dosing once, so I think it's probably alright.

Also good point on spacing out the two, I haven't really been taking that into consideration. I take 5mg Valium once in the morning, and once in the late evening/night, so I'm gonna try and take my last dose a littler earlier next time and wait until taking my Opiate dose for the night.
