Benzos Confused about Opiate withdrawal

The short of it. Work related back injury 2 years ago. Presently taking 80mg oxycotin 3 times a day, 15-5mg oxycodone throughout the day for break through pain, and 6-350mg soma a day. I've tried to cut back but always end up back to this legally perscribed dosage, so I want to try a cold turkey because I'm miserable taking these drugs, my life is centered on these pills, watching the clock for the next dosage, always have my daily supply in my pocket, counting the pills, and always wanting to take more, etc.

On hand for this cold turkey event I have , 10mg valium, 3 different mg of zanax/bars with the idea that maybe I can just sleep through most of the withdrawal. These meds have been perscribed to me over the years for PTSD. I also have the opiates themself and soma. My confusion is people talk about using Imodiam, Subutex, and all sorts of other pills to help and I just don't know how to start. I want to just flush the opiates, that way I have no choice but to stop and deal with this problem.

Now here is another bit of info. I'm in AA, very active, over twenty years clean and sober, sponsor, the whole deal. I've never had a drug problem until now and understand how I dealt with alcoholism, which was cold turkey,DT's, you know the drill, and now I'm dealing with being in AA and the guilt of taking these drugs, the fear of relapsing on alcohol even though I don't feel or think about drinking, that possibility is always there. In AA as long as you take meds the way they are perscribed and not abusing medication it's not considered a relapse but great warnings about opiates leading back to drinking.

I don't have the money for medical detox, so given what I've said what would you do? I own my business so if I have to take so time off from work I can. My wife will support me anyway she can, my sponsor knows of my situation and will help also. Now I need your help and opinions, thanks.

Try suboxone it could help stabalize ur addiction and understand it more, make you feel normal while the other withdrawls are flushing out you system, but don't stay on them for long because people tend to use them for maintnance and then go bac to the oxy it's up to how bad you wana be healthy again

You absolutely don't want to cold turkey this. Soma certainly needs to be tapered and opiates probably should be as well. There is no reason to inflict on your body the kind of stress you are describing. If you really want to quit opiates, do a quick taper and switch to Suboxone or even kratom for a short time. As far as quitting Soma, you need to taper.

To the OP....dude I get it, but you gotta realize that you are going to have extreme pain due to your original injury. That is gonna hurt. Also Soma can really mess you up if you just stop taking it, espically at the doses you were taking it. You really need to taper down, call your doctor and tell him you want to taper down, you obviously have a prescribing physician, tell him you NEED to taper, he will help you.

if you are gonna flush em send em this way lol i kid i kid
but yea i would recommend suboxone for the withdrawl or even if you still need narcotics for pain then try getting fent patches as they can be worn for 3 days and then you wont feel like a junkie having to take ur pills all the time and what not

If you really want to get off of these I suggest suboxone or methadone. Methadone I only suggest because of the pain, and suboxone is better cuz the withdrawal from that is far less intense than methadone. But they both help with pain, methadone more than suboxone.

But if u cant afford suboxone somehow, even though you get oxy and all that, im sure u can make money somehow. Legit or not. By this I mean, if u stop ur oxys, ull have those while u are on suboxone. Im sure u can get the funds somehow to pay for suboxone.

even if you have to just trade your oxys for subs cause i know i would make a trade my subs for oxy any day

totally agree with both of these.

Cold turkey might sound good to you, but as most have said... it's probably not the best idea for your mental and physical health. Perhaps you could switch to something like fentanyl patches as suggested so you aren't always thinking about dosing. Although, I probably wouldn't tell your doctor... at least right now. You want to make sure you can handle the pain from your injury first before you screw yourself over and have nothing to deal with the pain.

A pain management doctor will not cut you off because you wanted to try and taper off and live without the meds. If you say the pain is too much he will just put you back on the meds again.

First off i want to say ur doing the right thing by wanting to get help. I have been clean from the roxis for 27 days now. :D Suboxone helps BIG time BUT u have to be careful that you dont just take them whole for too long, or become dependent on them. They are just as addiciting. They give u this sense of happiness and keep you from being sick. They work by blocking the Opiate receptors, so even if u use after (20min after) u cant feel the effects of the blues.

The Detox SUCKS and unfortinutly you may have to be uncomfortable for a few days, maybe even a week or so. I signed myself into Detox on March 9, 2011 and they didnt give me any Suboxone the first day because I had took Roxis that morning. They waiting till my body naturally went into Detox and then they gave me 8mg Subs the second day, 6mg Subs for the next 2 days, then 4mg the next 2 days and then the last day they gave me 2mg. I went threw a very comfortable detox while i was in there but even until this day I am still not 100%. I still get the runny nose, sneezes, chills and do not have much energy. But I must say its nothing like being dope sick those first 5+ days.

I also have experiance with detoxing COLD TURKEY from roxi 30mg. THAT WAS THE WORST THING EVER!!!!!!!!!!!:X If u can, i suggest trying Suboxone or Subutex (? spelling). Good luck and keep ur head up. This too shall pass.<3<3<3<3

PS: make sure u dont take Suboxone too soon or else it will throw your body into RAPID DETOX!!! you have to wait (or should wait) until your body starts to detox naturally.

^ That is one lively, vivid post.

She (I hope you're a she Mimiikins) is right though, if you do start taking suboxone or subutex make sure not to take them in conjunction with your regular meds, it will cause what's known as precipitated withdrawl, which is quite an unpleasant experience.

Also, your idea of using benzos to help could definitely work. They are CNS depressants (relaxing effect) and will make the aches and pains not as bad and in general make the experience less shitty.

But, make sure you don't over do it. I have heard from many people (and from experience) that benzo withdrawal can be just as intense if not worse than opiate withdrawal.

Just wanted to correct you on one point........You most certaintly can still feel roxi's even being on suboxone in fact i ate about 2 mg's of sub this morning when i woke up and did roxies at about 4 and def felt it and still feel it..........i do aggree on a maintence dose you wont feel it because all of your receptors are filled with the bupe but with a small dose which is the most effective way of using bupe you can still get high and in most cases you get higher because some of your receptors are filled with the bupe so the ones that arent filled are open for the oxy and therefore all your receptors are filled so they kinda work off eachother

just wanted to point that out :D

I would not flush them... YET.
With the meds described as possibly using for the detox, xanax, soma and 10 mg valium, I think you should honestly hold on to you're opioids a little bit longer because that's going to be a bitch habit to deal with. If you're taking the oxycontin 80's as prescribed (orally, not crushing them up first or chewing them), then what I would do is start to taper myself with those, since they last in your system way longer then the OXY IR. I would use the benzo's and the soma, I just think that it's a bit early to start throwing your meds away, especailly when you have legitimate back paine, and you don't know how this w/d is going to hit you. Suboxone would not be a bad idea, just remember to wait a while if you do take the OC's as prescribed because you'll get Precipitated W/D from them if you take it too soon.

I think xanax, soma and valium would be great after the first initial few days of the detox, and should just be used lightly during the day for muscle soreness, and at night for sleep. taking these things to knock yourself out till w/d is over is not going to work.

That's not always true... so, it's best to have some kind of security...

Man, thanks from the bottom of my heart for your response and suggestions. I feel so much better mentally knowing that there are people out there who understand and that I'm not alone trying to deal with this problem. I will look into the suboxone and didn't realize that the Soma would be a problem also. I've started to taper this morning by just taking the soma and the 80mg oxycotin and not the usual 5-5mg oxycodone with that. Noon is usually time for my second dose of all three and will try to not take the 5-5mg oxycodone again. I already have a runny nose and feel the urge to take this dose earlier by will hold on and wait until noon, thanks again, this board has been a Godsend.

I will look into the suboxone, thanks for the help.

Your right about the not flushing yet, when I mentioned that to my wife she thought it was a crazy idea, crazy if I do crazy if I don't, very confusing but I will listen to what ya'll have said and follow the suggestions, thanks.
