Sorry, couldn't find any direct answer.

Just wondering, can Tramadol be used as a taper? Instead of taking Subs, could I just take my Tramadol Rx and not worry about W/Ds? I never tried it and I don't want to if I am going to get awfully sick. I know you can't exceed 400mg/day I believe, but I just want to kick this shit for good and I have loads of Trams.. Thanks for any replies beforehand!

Take care.

Tramadol is useful in the very short term in extreme moderation to alleviate some of the worst WDs, but its too easy to just switch addictions. Tramadol is a nasty beastie on its own to kick, even worse than normal opiates in many regards.

I wouldn't use it as a taper, except maybe in a short & steep one just before a cold turkey kick.
You could just save a few (6-8) to help after kicking cold turkey, and it would help it be more bearable, but regularly using more to help would ultimately draw out the withdrawal.

Hey.. I hear you BLBeam.. I have a bunch, from an Rx that I got previously and I never thought it was addictive.. I had no idea.. It doesn't seem like it would be.. Hmm interesting.. Why would it be son nasty if it's such a weak one?

It really depends on how big your habit is - 400mg of tramadol over the course of a day will be roughly equivalent to about 50mg of hydrocodone over the course of a day so if that's enough for you, it can be used like any other opioid.

Suboxone is far more potent and more accepted as useful in tapering due to its long duration. If you have a small habit, tramadol could suffice but if you're shooting a gram of east coast #4 then you probably aren't going to get a whole lot out of it.

Tramadol can and will effectively eliminate all signs of withdrawal other than bowel movements (depending on the individual), but it's generally (although it depends on your ultimate desires/goals) not at all an ideal choice for WDs as a person can get addicted to Tramadol within 1-2 weeks with just moderate usage and can get one "high" from it. Additionally, Tramadol can induce seizures and the chances increase with combination of certain other drugs and or medical conditions so please do your research.

It doesn't do shit for me. I experimented today, I was dopesick as fuck. Took 600mg of tramadol (and a 600mg neurontin for safety) and I was still sick. I want to say it took the edge off, but shit it could have been mental placebo affect, that's how little it was. My friend finally dropped off a half of 8mg subby, so I'm not sick anymore.

It depends on your tolerance. The higher the amount of opiates you have been using, the less effective tramadol will be. Someone who has more than the higher end of a moderate tolerance (as in a high/large to extreme actual opiate tolerance) probably won't benefit substantially enough from Tramadal (in reasonable dosages) to justify usage.

It should be noted that even when tolerance shouldn't be an issue, and even in opiate naive persons, there are people who do not benefit from Tramadol at all. It is noted in experience reports and in peer reviewed articles (some including those specifically for doctors and PAs) indicate some people (even those with absolutely zero tolerance to opiates or opiate related substances) don't experience much affect from Tramadol at all aside from the negative side-effects of large doses. Of course, there are also those people who love the shit out of Tramadol.

You may simply be a person who doesn't gain good effects from Tramadol, or your tolerance to dope or whatever opiates you use may simply be too high for Tramadol to be worth using.

Probably my tolerance. The longest I've been clean is around 30 days in the past 8 years. Sigh. No wonder someone gave me 60 of these for free!

i am one of those people that enjoys trams even tho my tolerance to oxy is about 250 mg's a day i would still eat some trams in the morning so i didnt feel like shit until i could find some oxy
