First of all, not everyone who listens to electronic music gives a shit about "PLUR". I mean do we really need an acronym for the golden rule? Second of all, why do Deadmau5 fans get so defensive when others don't like him. I don't like his music. It's not cause he's trendy, it's not cause I'm jealous he makes money, it's because I don't think it sounds good. Does that make me unPLURRY? Personally, I don't care what you or anyone thinks of the music I like, I don't need that sort of satisfaction.
It can be irritating when people who have a lot of musical talent don't make any money at all vs. someone like Deadmau5 who uses the exact same beat and model for every song. Also, it can be annoying when you've been listening to electronic for years and years and someone says something about Rusko or Deadmau5, which is barely scratching the surface of what electronica has to offer. It takes more effort to spend time looking for more "underground" music and sifting through it to find gems, rather than popping in a CD you got at FYE in the "techno" section. You have to really love and appreciate this genre to want to do that.
Just a heads up...I'm not a Deadmau5 fan. I bought his last 4X4 CD and actually only liked a couple songs. I do think he is overrated. My only point was, WHY HATE ON HIM? WHY BE JEALOUS? AND Your opinion of a "gem" is not the same as my opinion of a "gem". I mean, really who annointing any1 person the "Mayor of electro" to be the judge of what electro is good. To each is own. Deadmau5 has fans, good for him and Electronic music as a whole. I'm ok with whoever you like. Let me know what DJs you like and I'll take a listen. Who cares if Deadmau5 is a dickhead? SO WHAT!!!You think your fav DJ is some saint? Donates to charity or something? Fucking Mother Teresa or the POPE? Damn HATERZ!!! I dont buy music @FYE, there too expensive!!! But it nice to listen to a DJ that SELLS CDS SOMEWHERE!! I love underground. Its just hard to like OBSCURE!
Anyway, I think electronic is far from being respected by the masses, and I'm not sure that was ever the goal. Popular does not equal good. Deadmau5 isn't responsible for making electronic somewhat more popular. Before him there have been many more big name DJ's.
