has anyone suceeded on their own without a doc..if yes what did u do ? also is anyone out there under a doc supervision and currently takeing methadone ..and if yes what dose are you on and how long etc.?
I did not use Methadone to quit, but I use a similar method to quit, and yes it can work. I had a 4 month OC and then 2 month Heroin habit consecutively. I tapered the Heroin down to about a bag a day (0.1 g) and then used vicodins for the next couple days in a tapering schedule. I was able to get out of addiction, and stay out of it, just takes alot of discipline. Please note I did stay sober for a couple months to start off with, and sine then have used in moderation. I use on like Friday or Saturday every other weekend, that's it. I had made that plan with myself so I could not be addicted, but still get to enjoy myself occasionally, as opiates are the only drug I like. I realize I did not use methadone as you mentioned, but most any drug can be used the way I utilized vicodins, in order to taper. Here are my bet tips:
> Re locate for the detox if possible. I moved in with my dad three hours from my home town to avoid relapsing while cleaning up.
> Only use Methadone/Suboxone/Vicodin/Anything else for about five days maximum to avoid switching addictions. If you need to stay on them for a while due to severe addiction, start decreasing your taper drugs after five days. Some people have to stay on maintenance, but most people can quit if they have the right mindset and environment.
> Take only the necessary amount of your taper drug to hold you over, do not use it to chase the high.
>Force yourself to exercise to replenish your endorphins.
