wanna see how fucked up illinois is...

The first guy FAILED TO REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER, which is a much bigger risk to the community hence why the bail is much higher. They should keep his ass locked up thats the lowest of the low.

Now now lets not make assumptions. Depending on the jurisdiction of the conviction, that can mean an individual poses a great threat or it can mean absolutely jack shit. There have been cases requiring registration as a sex offender for urinating in public. Thats an extreme example, but there are many, many convictions requiring registration as a S.O. for petty sexual crimes, like an 18 year old having sex with an 17 year old girl w/o her parents consent, etc.

Although true, I wont make assumptions even though that is one of the only crimes that truly disgusts me. The fact they gave it such a bad label to the social norm could certainly be a contributing factor.

But isn't it the act of extreme sex crimes like rape / molestation / sexual abuse / incest / etc that disgusts you, but not the status of being labeled a 'sex offender'? Because what about the situation of a just turned 18 year old having consensual sex with his/her 16/17 year old girlfriend/boyfriend. Many times throughout history, often because of unapproving parents, the 18 year-old would be convicted and labeled as sex-offender for the rest of his life.

Like I said it's terrible those much more severe and more heinous crimes are categorized with such minor offenses such as your example. To be honest it is the act that is associated with the person. A lot of those people have psychological problems or were abused themselves. It's not that I mind them being able to live their life equally as ours with equal consequences, but its some of those actions that put people at extreme risk. Most of those crimes don't just happen once thats the problem. Also a lot of those problems go unreported, which is even worse. I would've figured they have categorized the seriousness or level of what happened and if it was something like your example I think its terrible to ruin someones life with that label at a young age. A system needs to be made where the less serious offenses are not under the same umbrella as the more serious ones.
Of course a debate can be had on the issue of sex-offender labeling, but I'd say its because it sounded like a good idea to protect the average public citizen, since it could be your neighbor and you wouldn't know. I certainly wouldn't want my kids living next door. Although I don't disagree with it, like I said I do feel there should be another name for less minor stipulations. I thought Indecent exposure was the charge for being naked in public and I once got a fine for pissing in public. Neither of those were sex-offender labeled, so if you can be more specific to the lower end crimes besides the minor playing the No card I'd love to hear them.

Much love always love a good convo.

My issue with the whole "registered sex offender" thing is that theoretically the purpose of prison is to lock away people who are deemed too dangerous to be in society (now, I know this isn't a terribly accurate reflection of reality, but I'll operate under an ideal case). If someone is charged with a sex offense has shown no signs of rehabilitation, then why exactly are we letting him/her out of prison in the first place? Being labelled as a sex offender only makes that person's life more difficult while not really protecting everyone else terribly much. It just labels that person as an outcast and can make integrating themselves into society very difficult. And like you said, this is hugely worsened by the amount of offenses that get slapped with the "sex offense" label.

Anyway, going back to the actual point of the thread - that is seriously fucked up. But it's good to know that Cook Country can be so lenient. Haha, students at my university generally flip a shit if the city police ever drive by while we're drinking/smoking/etc., but $15,000 bail for such a huge amount of pot is astoundingly low. Granted, perhaps they lucked out?

I agree fully. Its like, ok I understand the basic urge to punish people who do things you don't agree with, but are you just trying to make them re-offend?

I mean throwing up into prison for half their lives, then letting them out but outcasting them from society, what kind of shit is that?

Imagine if all drug offenders got labeled as 'Registered Addicts' in some public, national registry. Had to tell all their neighbors / employers etc, that they were 'registered addicts'. I'd imagine there'd by a much higher rate of relapse / OD's.

Registered addicts ahhhhhh.....I do agree with the part of self-fufilling prophecies cause people to repeat actions, but in all fairness the system isn't going to be fair to both sides ever.

True that :)

Very well summed up :)

Back on topic there are many deciding factors relating to ones bail, but this does seem like it will be easy for the truck drivers to get back to Mexico after quickly posting bail like a previous post stated.

Who decided that 230 pounds of weed was worth $4 million?? thats $17,391 per pound, not even selling high grade nugs by the gram would earn you that much for a pound I don't think..lol..damn sure not gonna make $17K a pound off any Mexican weed!! How came up with the prices!! And what street has prices that high because if the get $17 K a Pound for mexican weed, I can bring some up and be rich and retire off a few hundred pounds!! Lol..stupid fucking cops, always value shit hella high, but $17 K per pound is fuckign insane!!

Haven't you realized life isn't fair. It's really as simple as that. Illinois isn't nearly as fucked up as far as drug laws as the rest of the world.

yeah but this is nasadd not the world drug discussion..and what the orginal OP was about was these busts happened 2days apart in 2 differnt counties but the people who got caught with 200lbs got a bond of 10mil while the poeple who got stopped with 5x that amout, 1000lbs..was able to walk out with 15k cash bond...i dont care who you are or where you are those numbers are absolutley rediculas..there shouldnt be that much of a discrepancy..
