Opioids Question about 'Tincture of Opium' aka Paregoric

Ok. I've used the search engine, looked on google etc.

I have a cough syrup that contains tincture of opium. Each bottle apparently contains the equivalent of 32 mg of morphine.

My ? is does anybody know whether this pharmaceutical grade opium tincture contains opium alkaloids other than morphine, e.g codeine, papaverine, thebaine... This stuff seems to last longer than morphine alone, but nowhere near as long as opium tea.

I'm stumped. Is 'tincture of opium' just some kind of morphine distillate with no other actives?
 
Tincture of opium usually contains (at least in the synthetic stuff) morphine, codeine, and papaverine. Noscapine is usually removed because (at least according to wiki) it is a good emetic and nothing else. (I have my doubts on this one though) Look your tincture up if it's USP or BP formulated.
 
it is indeed a mixture but my GOD it must be one of the WORST tasting liquids I have ever tasted. I had trouble getting it down
 
ive had opium tincture once and ive never tasted anything that bitter and almost rubbery tasting. it was a huge bottle i found in some nasty old house i was helping my cousin whos a realestate agent clean it up before we renovated it.

the entire bottle contained like 4 grams of morphine. too bad there wasnt much left. i even tried dipping a cig in it and smoking it, but it didnt really work.

after doing some looking, what i found was a bottle of laudanum (sp) or deodorized tincture of opium. 10mg of morphine per ml and the bottle was like 416ml's

I'm feeling extreme jealousy pangs right now. And that shit is delicious!

Probably ~220 pts Morphine ~40 Thebaine ~30 Codeine and <5 parts noscapine and papaverine (smooth muscle relaxant)
It is considered as powerful as pure morphine, more or less. Have fun.
