While I have no interest in becoming addicted to yet another drug, I am detoxing off methadone and have intense insomnia. I have tried all benzos and all other sleep medications and they make me so restless I can't sleep. It's unusual, I know. I've also tried non-drug-related ways of achieving sleep (herbal, relaxation techniques, exercise, etc.). The last time I hit zero in a detox I was up for a week before I managed to knock myself out with a ton of phenobarb.
I'm curious about the state of (and policy regarding) short acting barbituates being prescribed in Canada and North America. I know phenobarb is available as a pill and have been prescribed it before, but I am worried about the risk of OD due to its long action.
2nd paragraph edited by mod though OP can reword it if I got it wrong.
