What to choose - Gabapentin or Lyrica?

My doctor wants to put me on one of these drugs along with my Oxy to help relieve some of the horrible back pain I suffer from. So which one do you think would be more effective?

Also I have heard horror stories about both of them, then there is the people that praise them as great drugs to get a buzz off of.

Definitely Lyrica (Pregabalin) - for me anyways.

According to Wikipedia, Lyrica (Pregablin) was designed as a more potent successor to Neurontin (Gabapentin).

I had some horror stories with SSRIs, benzos, antihistamines, and even herbal supplements, but I had no trouble with gabapentin or pregabalin. I can't say I like them all that much either though. Neurontin(Morontin) made me feel crappy and dull. Lyrica has a much better buzz but I gained serious weight on it quickly. The bad thing is that you have to take it constantly and you will be affected by it constantly and I couldn't deal with that aspect to well. I quit both with tapers over a few weeks and had no WD at all. It's a better choice than lots of other drugs such as benzos.
Although it's more expensive cause its brandname only still, go with the Lyrica. It felt much better and had better pain relief than Neurontin for me for sure.

I take lyrica and oxy for the same reasons (back pain) and I've found that while the lyrica helps in its own right it does also seem to potentiate the oxy for me as well. So I recommend lyrica. However I don't take it at high doses or regularly because I am a bit worried about the weight gain effects (although I am yet to see the biological mechanism as to how this phenomenon occurs). So I've never tried gabapentin but pregabalin gets my thumbs up. Oh one other thing I should put out there, where I live gabapentin is a lot cheaper than pregabalin (due to government concessions). This may influence your decision.

Looks like I will fill the Lyrica. The health insurgence gives me %100 coverage so price isn't a concern.

I just hope it helps a little for the back pain.

Ok, well I called my doctor today and he gave me a prescription for 150 mg x 30 Lyrica. I have heard that it potentates opiates. Currently I take 30-45 mgs of Oxycontin per day for my back, how much Lyrica would it take to get more out of my current Oxycontin prescription? The less of the Oxy I have to take the better I would feel.

Taking the prescribed dosage of Lyrica with your OxyContin should suffice (at least it did for me).

I like Gabapentin better because I find it more intoxicating and because it lasts about twice as long as Lyrica for me. I probably would have trouble telling the difference between the two, Lyrica is a little less stoning, better for sleep and doesn't give me tremors like gabapentin.

Gabapentin also causes open eye/closed eye visuals for me in conjunction with opiates, I've yet to mix Lyrica with them.

I took 30mg IR oxycodone which normally does nothing more than just give me a moderate mood lift and a warm fuzzy feeling but with 150mg of lyrica added to the mix I was nodding and feeling like I'd taken twice as much oxy by itself. Be careful, I would start low to get a feel for it and don't go over 150mg of lyrica unless you have a tolerance or something similar. Have fun.

I like gabapentin way better, too. I get really strange feelings when I take lyrica..really light-headed, dizzy, visual disturbances, dysphoria

On gabapentin, I can't shut the fuck up, get really happy, pain-free, energetic..
I keep at least 3 days between uses, or I'll get a headache and feel tired. I also have to take the enitre dose of gabapentin in the first hour (like 600mg, then 600mg 30 minutes later), or I get a bit of dysphoria..IE: if i redose 5-6 hours later..no dice, and just feel like crap..

IDK-they're kind of hit and miss anyways..I don't count on getting a good buzz from gabapentin, but if I do, so be it..
