BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The feds call it a major strike in the war on drugs. It's being billed as the Buffalo's biggest heroin bust ever.

State narcotics agents seized seven kilograms of heroin with an estimated street value of $3.5 million. Officials announced those drugs were intercepted in a drug pipeline that stretched from the Bronx to Buffalo's west side.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said, "It was essentially funneling drugs from the Bronx and Upper Manhattan, into Buffalo."

Schneiderman called the 11-month investigation, "Operation Horse Trail," a multi-million-dollar heroin pipeline stretching from the Bronx to a drug house on Buffalo's west side, specifically a one block-long side street, called 'Gill Alley.'

State Police Superintendent Joseph D'Amico said, "The heroin trafficking organization moved its product from the Bronx using the State Thruway system to communities of Rochester and Buffalo."

Authorities seized seven kilograms of heroin, about 14 pounds, with an estimated street value of $3.5 million. They also took in $45,000 cash, guns, and tools used to cut heroin for street use.

Deputy Police Commissioner Charles Tomaszewski said, "Typically the group, which is indicated by the cutting agents and materials you see me with, cut the heroin down to street-level use and then would be sold on the streets of our city."

Officials say, if this heroin had reached the street, it could have led to more than 100,000 drug transactions.

Mayor Byron Brown said, "At least 160,000 sales of heroin that could have taken in the city of Buffalo."

"Operation Horse Trail" led to a 51-count indictment of 15 reputed drug traffickers, eight of them from Buffalo, and three of the suspects are named as major drug kingpins.

"Whether you are in the Bronx or in Buffalo, we make it as hard as possible to conduct this type of operation. Our techniques improve, our strategy improves, our electronic surveillance improves, and we're going to make it harder and harder and harder," said Schneiderman.

Oh, the Bronx and Buffalo, the two locations which have been responsible for my last 10 years of schooling!

Guess there's gonna be a lot of super pissed off addicts running around, in addition to all the other NYers who are already pissed the fuck off at watching their once respected state go to COMPLETE AND TOTAL SHIT.

I am glad i live in NJ.... Man they have been raping NY addicts with all these busts.... fucking aye..... Just remember New Jersey starts outside the Holland Tunnel ;)

Ya know, the more bullshit that happens in NY, the smaller my list of "why NJ is the armpit of America" is getting. Your drivers still suck, though, getting from the GWBridge to PA on the I-80 is still unpleasant, in both directions. This is off topic, but, as someone born and raised in NY, I can't sit back and allow someone from NJ to pontificate about, well, anything ;)

Nj is a place some people love and some people love to hate.... Some parts of NJ mind as well be a borrow of NY with how close it is, and how many New yorkers come to live.... I love NY for the parties, most of which are in Brooklyn.... Brooklyn has a soft spot in my heart and always will

Take it from this NY heroin addict, things are grim. I won't list prices cuz it's against thread guidelines, but I will just say that recently, prices have almost doubled....sad times....

Well, yes, I've just been conditioned to say "NJ SUCKS" my entire life...so it seems odd to give up now. More like, I think Staten Island should cease being a borough and become part of NJ...we've got enough issues and a high enough population already. Oh, and, yeah Brooklyn is okay I suppose, but I'm a proud Queens native so once again, need to toss a little hate out there :p

Anyway, Buffalo is ALSO in a very pathetic state of affairs right now. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WORK AT ALL WHATSOEVER up here, and this already falling apart economy isn't getting better with our law enforcement spending time and money on busting the drug market.

Keep Staten Island in NY..... Guido Central of NY is Staten Island.... I have made the mistake of going to a couple bars and hookah lounges in Staten Island.... Lets just say i will not be making that mistake again....

Bet the prices of smack have went through the roof in Upstate since this bust.... But do not worry someone else will step up, and it will continue to flow....Just will take a week or so.... The flow of drugs will never stop as long as people are looking for it.... Plus this gives more reason for people to flood the area with smack, since the market price is higher now.... I bet right now they are people making the trip to upstate as we speak=D

And NJ isn't Guido Central too? What about the Jersey Shore?! And, I can proudly say, my 100% NYC Italian self is the farthest thing from a Guidette...unless I'm getting ready to go out, then well, we all really do look the same.

And yep, I'm sure someone somewhere heard about this and is taking the opportunity to make bank off of New York State as a whole...in NYC, well 8 million people, one drug bust, no matter how large, probably isn't significant. But upstate and western NY? Probably a goldmine right now...

If you look into where all those people on the NJ Shore live you would find out they are almost all are from NY.... That show just made NJ look worse than it is....

I did look into it, and have begun watching it since it satisfies my homesickness while in Buffalo. BUT, Sammi for example, the most annoying character on that show, as well as Deena, ARE FROM NJ. Snooki, Jwoww, Ronnie, and Vinny ARE all from NY, but they are seemingly less annoying than the people who are actually from NJ. The show really doesn't make NJ nor NY look bad, it makes anyone with an Italian background from the area look like absolute crap for the most part (Pauly D is from Rhode Island so clearly this stereotype is more Italian than state-specific, honestly).

Sorry for the off-topicness, but anything involving NYS specifically Buffalo and New York City, which then includes my Italianness into it, is something I get revved up about, regardless of original thread topic.

I just don't like the fact that some people from out of state of NJ/NY assume that all of NJ is like what is shown on that show... and the fact is, that is now how NJ is.... It is what it is i guess...

I wonder what most Italians think of that show...

Most Italians aren't very happy with it, see here and here for more information on that one. All of the Italian-American organizations are pretty unhappy with it, and apparently they are filming the next season in Italy, which scares me I'll be banned from ever visiting the motherland, due to my last name + hometown listed on my Passport (Italian kid from Queens? BANNED). I see it as entertainment, and think they are taking it a little too seriously, to be honest. The stereotype is going to be there regardless of how much popularity The Jersey Shore actually receives...and I really hope no one thinks that ALL Italians from this area are like that.

To try to not keep derailing the hell out of this thread...I don't think the Italians have all too much to do with the heroin pipeline between NYC and WNY...well, AFAIK anyway.

Take it from this NY heroin addict, things are grim. I won't list prices cuz it's against thread guidelines, but I will just say that recently, prices have almost doubled....sad times....

If you are just talking about Watertown, then I wouldn't say that it relates to many other NY heroin addicts. Watertown is about the last stop on the heroin train from NYC... You are better off going to Toronto to pick up.

I really doubt this will effect anything. I remember a few years back an 8 pound bust in Rochester NY (smaller city than buffalo, 1 hour east) shut down one side of the city for about 6 weeks. All the while all the addicts moved to the other side of the city to buy cheaper purer dope.

I know I've been outa the loop for a couple years but seriously IME it's like a dozen people will be out of business while two dozen new people move into a different block.

It's heroin. I feel like the world could collapse overnight and the heroin market would be 3rd only to food and water to recover.

I always had a feeling NYC was hooking up the City of Rochester. it definitely a weird vibe there up-state, as you have to mostly deal with trap houses to get what you want. still, great great product I always had a good time when visiting. hope things clear up soon
