I have recently gotten hold of 5 mg methadone pills. I have heard many different reactions good and bad. Would you recommend using them and if so how much for a first time user. I have done oxy roxy hydrocodone and morphine is mdone similar?

methadone is similar. many prefer it because it lasts longer.

what is your tolerance to the others like?

if you have little tolerance I'd start at 10mg. I've seen people get completely wrecked for 12 hours (not exactly in a pleasant way) after taking 40mg with around ~40mg oxy tolerance.

If you have a low opiate tolerance I would say they are good for recreational, start off with 10-15 mg and wait at least 3-4 hours if you want to redose as methadone takes a long time for it to peak. That's how alot of people OD too, they will redose in 30 mins to an hour thinking they need more and blam dead.

-This may get moved to Basic Drug Discussion, let's see if I can throw my 2 cents in here before it does...

Methadone is an opioid/opiate like oxycodone (roxy, oxy), hydrocodone and morphine, however, methadone is a synthetic opioid whereas the ones you've taken are either natural (morphine) or semi-synthetic (oxycodone, hydrocodone).

Methadone does have significant recreational potential for sure (I've used it personally a few times, I prefer other opiates, but thats a matter of personal taste and nothing more), however, methadone does have a very long half life and a very long duration of action. This means that not only does methadone last a longgggggggg time (12 - 24 hours usually, sometimes much longer depending on body chemistry, tolerance, etc) but it also takes a long time to kick in, sometimes up to 2 hours.

Of the opiates you've done, morphine is probably the closest to methadone in my experience. However, your experience may vary, and I'm not the most experienced methadone user for sure.

Hope this gets you started in the right direction, I also recommend checking this thread out:

Methadone Mega Thread and FAQ

I have a moderate opiate tolerance from recreational use the most I've done was 50 mg hydrocodone and I got really sick though but I think it was from the acetaminophen not the hc

^Great response, Neighborhood. :) Thanks for throwing that link to the megathread up there. read my mind. I may merge this with the megathread, but I will leave it here for a bit to see if anything unique pops up and so the OP has a chance to come back.

If they are 5mg pills i would take two and wait at least two hours to make sure they are hitting you. Then if your not high maybe take one more 50mg of hydro is a pretty low tolerance. Make sure the pills are 5mg too, i have never seen a 5mg methadone, i do know they make them tho.

Bong hits did you read what Dinkus said?? Even two hours could be dangerous. It's safer to just up your dose the NEXT time you take (at least 48 hours later) rather than during that session.

Yeah re-dosing methadone a few hours later is a waste in my experience. It doesn't increase the intensity of the high, just pro-longs the experience. If you take 10mg and that isn't enough, then the best thing to do is not re-dose at all. Wait until the next day, and increase your dosage a little bit. Sure, it will take longer this way to achieve the high you are looking for, but re-dosing the same day will just waste pills.

methadone PRO it lasts most all day
CON it makes a lot of people simply fall asleep
it lacks euphoria that comes with other opioids

it just isn't a drug that the true junkie would ever want

I experience pretty strong euphoria with methadone. However, I never tried heroin, oxy and the likes, so I can't compare.
I like the uplifting mood methadone gives me, as well as the very long duration, maybe too long (I have difficulty sleeping after a binge).

I would'nt get too involved with Methadone the WD's suck too much. I would rather do Heroin than Methadone, but that is me......

a true junkie will take whatever they can get 8)

PRO:
- Some people like the effects if they are able to take it only occasionally and not on a multiple-times-a-week basis (you build up a tolerance and a physical dependence very rapidly)
- It lasts for a long time

CONS:
- It can easily kill you if you take too much, and "too much" can be a very small amount for a person with a low tolerance to opioids
- You can quickly get a physical dependence to it and the withdrawal symptoms are the worst feeling in the world and last for about a month (plus some symptoms can last for years like serious depression)
- It lasts for a long time (this is both a pro and a con for a number of reasons)
- It can make you really sleepy and you may miss out on your "high" by sleeping for 24 hrs
- It is relatively bad for you as far as opioids are concerned (I have had more unwanted side effects from methadone than from heroin)
- It takes a long time to kick in and there is no rush, it just gradually comes on

EDIT: Wait a minute, I just realized this is a really old thread. Why'd you bump such an old thread?

I think maybe mrflowers00 meant that it isn't a drug most junkies would be satisfied with unless they had no other options. Personally I think if nothing else was available a "true junkie" would take the methadone to alleviate their withdrawal symptoms, then spend the rest of the day doing everything humanly possible to score some heroin ;)
