U.S. anti-drug agents shot in roadside attack in Mexico; one dead

I agree with Mora Fiend...to a point.

Without "the people employed by it," there would BE no war on drugs...same thing with the war in Afghanistan/Vietnam/wherever. Every individual is responsible for his or her choices--no one is forced to be a soldier or work as a drug enforcement agent, police officer, etc. The people fighting the drug war ARE the problem, not helpless victims. There will never be true change until people start refusing to be pawns in the government's deadly games of greed, violence and deception.

if this cartel war spills onto american streets its going to be junkies like us who shot and killed

As they say, better to die on your feet than live on your knees.

Besides, if the US drug war becomes a literal war, might it not become a civil war? Will we not take up arms against the prohibitionists?

wow some people are a bit cynical here... i do not believe in our drug laws at all but that does not mean i think it is okay for some cartel thug to do bodily harm on a fellow countryman... have some pride... if this cartel war spills onto american streets its going to be junkies like us who shot and killed.. stop and think for a minute

Wait, what?

I don't really get that at all. First of all, the Cartels and their war is in Mexico for a reason. Thats where they have, and can have, power. We have too much law, order, and control in this country to facilitate the domestic operation of a bunch of drug Cartels.

It would be shitty, if the Cartels were basing operation in America instead of Mexico, but they aren't. So I don't see how you can logically draw that point.

Second, what does a couple of ICE agents getting killed in Mexico have to do with the Cartels mowing down their own consumers (junkies) in US streets?

wtf were our guys doing on their side of the line anyway?

Remember, they were ICE (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents), not DEA. So they were likely just doing what ICE agents do, and were caught in the crossfire, so to speak. At least thats my guess.

I'd say it looks like they were specifically targeted actually. Not sure what they were doing in Mexico though since their jurisdiction is only in the US... They should be around the border though, not all the way in Monterrey. Why they were there is obviously a secret.

the reason they make so much money is because they produce in mexico...as in its even cheaper to produce and then they can make even more money when it gets to the us

"cause all these punks need bullets in their heads"

rather read this than another bluelighter oding thats 4 sure..

MEXICO CITY - One U.S. law enforcement agent was killed and another wounded in a roadside attack in northern Mexico on Tuesday, marking a lethal escalation in the ongoing drug fight here, officials said.

Two agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were traveling in a dark-colored SUV on the highway between Monterrey and the Mexican capital when they were fired upon.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said the agents were "shot in the line of duty." One agent was critically wounded and died from his injuries. The second agent was shot in the arm and leg and remains in stable condition.

"Let me be clear: Any act of violence against our ICE personnel . . . is an attack against all those who serve our nation and put their lives at risk for our safety," Napolitano said.

Mexico Says U.S. Agent's Killing Was Case of Mistaken Identity

MEXICO CITY—The Mexican army detained nine people Wednesday in the killing of a U.S. agent last week, and said the shooting appears to have been a case of mistaken identity by drug hitmen.

Mexican Defense Department spokesman Col. Ricardo Trevilla said Julián Zapata, the leader of a cell of gunmen working for the Zeta drug cartel, was responsible for the attack that killed Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata and wounded Victor Avila, another ICE agent.

Six of the alleged gunmen, some of whom appeared to have been roughed up, were paraded before reporters at a press conference at the Defense Ministry. Col. Trevilla said the attack by the Zeta gunmen was a case of mistaken identity.

He said Mr. Zapata, the gunman, who is no relation to the ICE agent, had believed the armored SUV driven by the two U.S. agents was being driven by criminals belonging to a rival drug cartel. Col. Trevilla said three women were also in custody.

40 digits in the url! can there ever even be that many webpages in the entire internet?

edit: no, there cannot ever be that many webpages if the servers are on earth. Any file must occupy physical memory, meaning that there is matter devoted to storing the file. Assume that the average file size involves 10 billion atoms. You'd therefore need 1 x 10^50 atoms to make that many webpages.

and then so then the average atom on earth weighs 6.64 x 10^-26 kg. Mass of the earth is 5.98 x 10^24 kg. Therefore the earth has roughly 9.0 x 10^49 atoms. Not enough to hold that many files!

Who does math? Seriously.

I feel bad for the agents that were injured and killed and I feel sick that people here would say 'good' to someone getting killed. I hate the war in Afghanistan, I don't say good when soldiers die.

I wonder how many of the ppl who feel no sympathy here DO feel sympathy for Lara Logan..

the only thing i think is sad about the shooting is that they had know idea they were part of a bigger plan to keep this fony war going on. the u.s. has invaded countries while the u.n. opposed, the can shoot a missle through a window of a house from 1k miles away, and find sadam in a hole in the middle of no where, but they cant stop cocaine from gettin here,,,when they know where its grown where its made and how it has to get here,,,,they employee more tax dollars to stop it and theres more here than ever,,,,,,,,smoke and mirrors ,,,,,,,smoke and mirrors

as a nation, we're trying to control the flames of history... and we're getting seriously burned.

(iraq/afghan wars, drug war, et al)

Most likely.

That or they just hire gunman to look for blacked-out Chevrolet Suburbans with antennas on them and white guys driving them, as they are most likely U.S. agents. The cartels don't seem to care about the bodycount anymore, so why not just shoot everybody who could be a narcotics officer?

Neither were white although American.
