Why do druggies delude themselves into thinking no one realizes they are on drugs?

i think about all the times i used to be rolling a joint somewhere or trying to do a line driving around and thinking people didn't know and just laugh, because now that i am not into that shit anymore i can spot the people doing it from a mile away. i can't believe i'm not un jail from how freaking obvious i must have been.

i think its the worst for amphetamines, its so dam obvious when people are on those. Least obvious maybe opiates.

Mostly agreed. Although if somebody takes too high a dose for an occasion in which they are supposed to be discreet, the nodding makes it very obvious.

But on amphetamines there is no controlling the jaw grinding and twitches. Everybody will likely know you are on a stimulant.

MDMA is pretty much a dead giveaway as well, with the amphetamine symptoms combined with the eyes constantly rolling in the back of your head, and the incessant compliments given to people, sometimes proclaiming to complete strangers that you love them.

Although the worst of the worst to be on publicly is psychedelics. Looking wacked out of your mind and totally insane, to people unfamiliar with the drug they will wonder "WHAT THE FUCK IS HE ON!" or simply deduce that you are simply the mentally ill member of the family/party.

lol yeah pretty much all true. weed isnt very noticable besides the smell.

I don't think you can categorically say that drug X is always noticeable just because of the behavioral effects it can cause. This kind of thing really varies between users, and depends on their personality, their experience with the drug, and what they expect the drug to do to them. I've seen amphetamine users who never gurn or get motormouth. I've met plenty of psychedelic users who don't get spacy or starry-eyed no matter what they take.

It's only direct physiological effects that users can't learn to hide. If a drug changes the way your body smells or how big your pupils are, that's noticeable, and there's nothing that can be done to hide these sorts of things.

Now this makes me chuckle, because in contrast, this is the kind of thing that's easy to hide. It doesn't take all that much foresight and planning to make sure no one sees you put the drug in your body (or suspect that that's what you just went off to do). But it's amazing how many drug users think they can 'hide in the open', protected by the general public's supposed ignorance of their habit. Either that or they're too fuct to care. I've been tempted to sneak a toke somewhere semi public on a few occasions. But then I remembered that I live in a country where half of all people have used marijuana at least once, and that no behavior all that closely resembles the smoking of marijuana, even at a distance.

That's the best part man. Going around freaking out squares! :D

My cousin was "in a fog" on Christmas due to some kind of drug use. Disappeared several times, very spaced out, etc.

Just because no one calls you out on it, does not mean that no one notices. Everyone in my family noticed without a doubt.

To be clear, I am talking about significantly above normal doses of pharmys, psychedelics, or hard drugs.

LOL maybe its about respect... What would you rather, us "druggies" drop into chit chat that we've just had a blast, or a toke, or dropped a few oxys... Make up a salad while discussing the bag of wicked gear you just picked up, ask if anyone wants to share a blunt, cook up at the diner table.. Honestly...
I'm curious how many beers & wine's were consumed by you and your family while you watched your cousin's odd behaviour of going to the bathroom & not particularly wanting to engage in family christmas bullshit. Sounds like a normal xmas day for me, on or off drugs =D

I am surprised you all are saying opiate use can't be seen, and identified as easily as the use of other drugs, but I'd say it is one of the easiest if you know what to look for. Flushed skin, scratching, pin-point pupils, nodding (in higher doses), and the "opiate gaze". Opiates produce effects that are very unique. No one just nods in and out like you would on an opiate if they haven't taken one.

From my experience when I am using Opiates I seem to ALWAYS think nobody can tell I am high. BUT my bro can always tell when I am high, and I can always tell when he is high on opiates. It is just the delusional aspects of the drug hazing your mind. This is common with a bunch of people, we never think people can tell we are super high!!!

What do you expect from people? For them to walk in a room & say 'Okay just to let you know, I'm on morphine & diazepam this evening'!

There's been plenty of situations where at first people can't tell, then i catch them giving me this little look & i know the penny has dropped.

Just after xmas i saw two of my cousins in a shop who i'm not at all close with & the younger brother seemed like a nice dude but the girl gave me a bad vibe after a minute. It didn't really occur to me until i saw this thread that it was because i was under the influence, but what a complete bitch that virtually disowns you because you've got a look in your eyes from some weed. This is the sort of person who i see on facebook at all hours saying "getting on the vodka now xxx" or some balls like that.

The fact that it's more acceptable to be on alcohol, a DRUG that is killing people as we speak, in society than marijuana is really making me angry.

Plenty of people, myself included, are fully aware that people may realize they are 'on something' but simply don't care, or may just forget that they are under the influence as it's not really uncommon for them, & just don't expect to automatically be treated like an outcast.

I mean, if you are a total mess; slurring your words, unable to hold a conversation, i can understand, but if a person just dislikes you just because you have glassy eyes then that person either is ignorant, has personal issues with people who take drugs because they know a friend or family member who had a problem & therefore is prejudice, or fundamentally isn't worth keeping company with.

90% of people under 40 dont care if you smoke weed bro....

I am talking about real drugs, not weed.

Some people are sly because they tend to behave more conventionally on drugs than off them.. I'm one of those people

My ADD tends to make me appear as if i'm on something. I can be incredibly restless and have horrible insomnia without amphetamine, but behave more like a balanced, calm and collected person while on it

It'd be pretty hard to pull off sobriety on a high dose of LSD or MDMA tho

is there any chance this christmas gathering was in pennsylvania?

most of the time people dont notice people being high.... only when they take it too far

^yea that sounds a bit over the top. i'd think more in the range of 50~60% but really no way of knowing 8)

it definitely depends on location

Druggies have fallen into a pit. They've used frequently enough to become habituated to the effects and make themselves justify use, and keep on using for subconscious fear of retribution upon ceasing a habit. By this time the use has become a compulsive habit, and importantly an escape from reality. Its their reality, and as a retaliation against our collective reality they begin not to care...about anything but the drug.

Look at most people, they're in their own little worlds. Surely they don't care if the walls are dripping in my mind. I don't care if they care anyway

tru dat...no i'm not a tweaker you got it wrong...i'm a motherfuckin skitzer bitch!

because dome of us have decades of experience and know when and where to use certain drugs. i like to roll and trip and blow the fuck up at concerts and festivals. i tweek when i have a long weekend to myself. in everyday life i know what i have to do and what i need to do and i tailor my use around that. some of us have just become that good. it may sound sad,but not all junkies are on the street using dirty, shared needles. some of us have lives, families, goals, responsibilities ect... i am very private in my use and i use alone in the comfort of my home 99% of the time. i am a lifer-i have been using for more than half my life-but i have done so,for the most past, completely stealth.
some of us don't think no one knows...we got to great lengths, take serious precautions, safety measures, common sense and life experiences to ensure that no one knows-unless we want them to.

just my personal opinion and lifestyle...certainly not for everyone- or every drug.

much peace and love.................skillz<3

I think some druggies actually manage to pull this off.

I'm generally pretty paranoid and imagine that people "can tell" if I'm drunk or high (I'm going like that to Uni on regular basis). Been surprised quite a few times when people told me that I don't look drunk/high at all and they didn't expected me to be.

I think this is because of my shyness and genneral lack of social skills. It made me so aware of my own demenour that I've became sort of an ace at hiding most of my feelings from the prying eyes of others.

Just last night, I was telling a girl about all the alcohol and pills I've done during the day in the hopes that it would justify what I was seeing as "inpolite behaviour" on my part. She almost didn't believe me!

Ironically, most of the people on my floor think that I'm a junkie because I had a severe cold in my first week here that pretty much looked like withdrawel and I was speaking very slowly to spare my sour throught.
