[NEWS] Man told to give addict mouth-to-mouth

What's with the bickering? It doesn't serve any purpose whatsoever.

Nothing wrong with a bit of healthy debate. No one here takes it personally, in fact most of the guys I butt heads with here on Bluelight are people I have a lot of respect for and have a beer with in real life. Without the bickering I would just as well fuck off to some lame soap site or even worse 9MSN:(

^That's cool^

Just thought that it started off interesting but degenerated somewhat :p ;)

That's no way to reply! You are supposed to tell me I'm a cunt and then we can derail the thread for a couple of pages. :(

I see you are still a greenlighter so I will cut you some slack this time.;)

I think my main beef with this story is the trigger for the fellow who did the mouth to mouth to get upset was his doctor freaking him out about HIV/hep C risk. I'm pissed off with the GP, who should know better. It's a great example where health professionals display their prejudice towards injecting drug users and it's an absolute disgrace IMO.

Incidentally - can we all ease up on the J word? I know there would be short shrift against people posting using words like f*ggot or n*gger etc. How about we stop discriminating against people because of their drug of choice or route of administration of choice? I know you will all come back with "Hey even junkies use the word junkie" or "Some of my best friends are junkies" but please give it a thought...

Yeah, you're supposed to give me something to unapprove and infract you for!

Are junkies allowed to use the word junkie?

Damnit, it's just like the N word.

Doctor aren't just prejudiced towards injecting users, I can't find a single one in Adelaide that isn't prejudice towards drug users

Too true - you have to be extremely careful before disclosing any illicit drug use to your doctor. You will even risk poor treatment if you APPEAR to be a drug user. I've certainly been on the receiving end of this - worst case actually called a junkie to my face by a nurse in hospital.

We're all just junkies to the straight world - another reason why I don't like that word.

Mr Blonde I pre-empted you query in my initial post. The longer answer is - generally speaking, when people who inject drugs use the J word, it is used to describe someone else. Rather than just reject the term outright, an imaginary line gets drawn in the sand - junkies are on the other side:
"Yeah I use heroin but I'm not a JUNKIE - I don't inject"
"Yeah I inject heroin but I'm not a JUNKIE - I don't have a habit"
"Yeah I've got a jack rabbit but I'm not a JUNKIE - I always put my dirties in the proper bin; not like those dirty JUNKIES who throw them on the ground"

etc etc. The J word is a big fat moral judgement. People who are targeted with the J word often seek to explain why that judgement should not be on them. I would rather dig deeper and claim that that judgement should be on NO-ONE.

lulzy,

We are all Junkies to something or other. I don't think the word discriminates, Someone addicted to ciggarettes might as well be labeled as a junkie. Someone taking a toke of the glass pipe is a junkie?

I'm 'addicted' to anime and video games, hence a game-junkie, smack junkie, anime-junkie (aka otaku). fuck yeah to being a junkie.

Just get it right.

^ We need a figurehead who will appeal to the public and make great speeches on behalf of the junkie population.

And a Million Junkie March.

Followed by a mass dosing in front of Parliament.

Who wants to give mouth to mouth to a stranger anyway. He had every right to question it, I would probably think twice also. And it really has nothing to do with the drug issue.

A million? At least 750 000 will nod out on the train on the way there and have to be woken up at the last station by a ticket inspector. Probably cop a fine for not having a ticket too.

I'd try use a t shirt as a barrier. Unless it was some hottie. And the chest compressions are far more important than the 2 rescue breaths imo (2 breaths to 30 chest compressions isnt it). Put them on their side, clear the mouth and make sure no vomit or anything there, put them back flat, then pump away on that chest, a hundred a minute and about 1/3rd compression i think it is?
