I got a months supply of zolpidem which I was taking as a sleep aid and without a doubt it puts me into dreamful sleep but when I wake up I feel sleep deprived. I did some reading and read on a few sites that the kind of sleep it induces lacks one of the stages of REM sleep. My experience with the drug backs that theory up. GHB on the other hand induces sleep that is near identical to natural sleep. Why Xyrem isn't commonly prescribed as a sleep aid is beyond me.

my brother has a severe sleep disorder and he is prescribed Xyrem but his doctor had to get approval from the DEA because it is such a strong drug... he cant take if he has had any alcohol in the past 24hrs... Xyrems potential for accidental overdose is huge i guess... i take serequel 100mg for sleep and it does the trick...

xyrem isn't prescribed very often because of the obvious risk involved with giving people GHB to handle on their own, legally. I never had much luck with zolpidem. Wouldn't even make me tired. Benzos are basically all that have helped my chronic insomnia. And it isn't for lack of trying, I have tried probably a dozen different medicines.

What reasons did you seek out sleeping pills, in the first place? Was it anxiety based, or what? This may help us give you a better idea of something that'll work better for you. Weed always helped me, honestly, although it inhibits you from reaching stage 4 of sleep (REM), so it wouldn't do you much better than zolpidem.

^Yes.

Im just fucking stupid right now and haven't slept in quite some time and just phrased my sentences all wrong. And now I am making enemies for "bluelight mongering" so I guess I will quit while I am ahead and quit the intenret.

I'm on dexedrine for ADHD. Works but it gives me some serious insomnia.

REM sleep is the 4th stage of sleep... by that time the effects of zolpidem are worn off..... it's good for getting asleep, but not staying asleep like some hypnotics
I'll sleep for 14 hours straight after taking just 5 mg of the stuff but like I said I wake up feeling sleep deprived.

xyrem is prescribed specifically because it effects the sleep cycle.

Certain narcoleptics' conditions are suspected of being the effect of the person spending too much time in REM.

xyrem=less REM=more deep sleep=less comically falling asleep in soup

But yes. I agree. In fact, I'd like a script for it myself.
