Hi peoples! so ive decided to have an adventure and go to india for a while (possibly up to a year). Now I'm starting my trip about 200km south of goa, I will be staying in an ashram there and have hooked up a cheap motorbike so i can get around on.

Now I know there are drugs in india definatly in goa and im not passing up the chance to party in goa, Im not planning on going to india to take drugs although if i do wondering what i should be aware of. Yes im aware of how fucked over you can be if your caught but i know the risks. I hear In goa lots of people have died of drug overdoses bad pills super strong smack?, mostly id id be smoking some nice charas or opium/heroin which im aware is very widly avaliable.

Also I hear that ketamine is also legal with a prescription although most pharmacies will just sell it otc. althoguh i dont know about going into a k hole unless im at least with people i trust but even thats a big :/

Also anyone whos been to india any trip advice?

Not sure of the drug situation in India but I would ask you to enjoy a sitar/tambla show with the right kind of buzz....I got to see a concert here in the states with just those two instruments and a combo of morphine and jwh-018 and was on the edge of my seat the whole concert. Be safe and enjoy yourself :)

some non tourist parts weed is turned an eye on, but some cops may want bribes. i dont know about availabiklity, of course there is heroin there tho. ketamine there would be easy to find in crystal and liquid form without a script. Benzos are sold in corner shops in non tourist areas and stay away from betel nut shit they chew that stuff is disgusting.. and keep away from dead body sniffing and jenkem. lawls

its a shame it sounds like you would find it difficult to be in company you fully trust.
whilst i know india is crowded and dirty, as you have mentioned yourself, there would be some incredible cultural experiences to have which could be enhanced by a few substances.

would be interesting to hear how your trip goes.

Book your train tickets early. They fill up fast!

^ LOL at the train.

I haven't been to india, but quite a few friends have, as well as some friends who grew up there. Alcohol is expensive and not widely used. marijuana is used alot. drugs like MDMA, LSD etc. are pretty common in Goa. Apparenlty it is easy to get ketamine at pharmacies.

As with alot of these countries watch out for the law, and be extra cautious with who you buy off. use the drugs in your hotel and don't carry them around with you. its not australia so you have to be extra careful.

If I were you, I'd keep the drug use to a minimum. to be honest, India is going to be such an intense place due to all the people, the smells, the vibrant culture etc. that just being there will almost be like a drug. Really immerse yourself and have fun. save the drugs for goa and very occassionally outside.

I'm jealous man. India is definately on my to do list. I'm going to South America mid year. High five for travelling to developing countries!

Cheers psytaco, as i said in my post im not planning on taking drugs, you obviously used to get alot of people going to goa for the party scene there, but these days its just a shadow of what the scene was like anyway so I dont think im really that interested I just wanted to know what i might be up against and it would also be nice to smoke a spliff or some opium after the 15 or so hours in transit!

Im actually staying around in ashrams, for a bed and food im going to help teach english in this particular ashram im staying in down south, im sure i will be connected to other ashrams around the country but basically my simple needs are free (from the western point of veiw). In these ashrams ill be eating incredibly healthy vegetarian food and doing yoga which is a high in itself its just not easy and im lazy lol. Half of the reason im going to india anyway is to unlearn

I am pretty sure that marijuana is widely tolerated in India, although probably much less so as a foreigner than a local. I believe quality hashish is readily available although you would need to look just a little harder than to find buds and its probably a bit more likely to land you in trouble should you get caught out.

One of my mums work mates grew up in India and he claims cannabis just grows by the roads and shit and people will often just pick buds and eat them. Don't know how true this is but I don't see why he would lie about it.

I believe you can find OTC benzo's over there without too much issue, I know it was once commonplace to find ketamine OTC but I would personally be surprised if it is still the case today.

I would be careful breaking the law as I don't know how harsh they are on drugs, I would imagine some very dirty and over crowded prisons though...

Enjoy yourself over there mate! I am sure the food will be to die for, chicken vindaloo is one of my favourite meals in the world.

Whats the time of the year where everyone is smoking joints all over the street. Its a spiritual holiday or something like that. Lots of hippys smoking all over the place and the police don't interrupt this day or days if its peaceful.

Hey Bikki_Muncher,
Just one thing first, you know Indian visas are only valid for 6 months from the date they are issued? And they have been strictly enforcing a new rule the past few years to stop people doing visa runs to Nepal etc, getting another visa and going right back - they will not allow you to re-enter India on a new visa unless at least 2 months have passed since you left. And I got a bit confused, you said you don;t plan on taking drugs, but that you might want a spliff or some opium after the flight, and some stuff about ketamine!!! Anyway, here's my 2 cents worth on the subject of drugs in India!!
I have no idea about ketamine, never taken it before, but it's possible you may be able to pick it up at a pharmacy in India without a prescription. Note also that counterfeit pharmaceuticals are said to be rife throughout India. Just make sure you're dressed reasonably respectably when you go to the pharmacy. If the first pharmacy says no, just go to another one, someone is bound to sell you what you're after eventually if they have it. Money talks. And the dressing and looking respectable also helps if you have any other stuff in your possession - you do not want to mess with Indian police. Looking respectable will help.

If you were unfortunate enough to get busted with anything, which is highly unlikely, ask the cop if you could pay him the 'fine' on the spot. Maybe they'll take a bribe. And they probably won't be happy with $50, do whatever you can to get more cash and give them whatever they want if you end up in this situation - you do NOT want to end up in an Indian prison!! People spend years in prison just waiting to go to trial, the wheels of justice move very slowly there. And I think a minimum sentence would be 5-10 years. Not trying to make you paranoid though, I've been to India many many times, doing all manner of stuff and never had a problem. I'm usually being respectable but sometimes things are just too tempting to pass up%) I'm a woman though which I think helps and I look pretty respectable! And I'm not stupid or reckless that helps too. You sound like you're pretty together so just use your street smarts and be careful.

Charas (hash) is far more widely available in my experience than buds. I have seen plants growing by the roadside etc but never anything that you'd bother with smoking, more suitable for making ropes I think. I never bother with the green stuff anyway, I don't smoke that anymore anyway, but can't pass up a bit of charas if I'm in India! Usually it's sold in 10 gram blocks (10 grams will usually be referred to as a tola). And drugs are generally NOT tolerated in India, (esp not by the police nor by 'respectable' Indians) unless you're a sadhu and/or smoking charas or bhang for religious reasons. There are certain places, Jaisalmer for eg where you'll find government bhang shops. So you're fine getting something there (unless you look at how grotty the biscuits look haha) They'll sell bhang, which is basically crap leafy weed, sometimes they'll have bhang biscuits etc, or make bhang lassis. Other towns that attract a lot of hippy dickhead tourists will have bhang lassis on the menu (sometimes referred to as a "special lassi" =D) if in doubt just ask what's in a special lassi, and they'll tell you if it's bhang. They can hit hard, hahaha, but as long as you're not a novice you'll be fine. It can be pretty funny after having one to just sit on the street and watch the world go by. But India is crazy and amazing enough without drugs <3

H is available, and pretty cheap, and it's always brown. Last time I was there though I got some on one occasion; it looked like gear, tasted like gear, but I have no idea what it was - did nothing. When I was a crazy young thing I'd be in the Mumbai slums alone scoring at night - can't believe I used to do shit like that 8o Opium doesn't seem to be as common as it used to be, I think the push by alcohol companies to get Indians off their traditional drugs and onto a nastier one - booze, may be working and have something to do with it. That's my theory anyway! 20 years ago drinking was pretty rare and done in dingy drinking dens (these type of 'pubs' can still be found and are well worth a look and a beer, just not if you're female and alone, not advisable!) but now there are billboards everywhere advertising alcohol, TV is full of celebrities advertising it. But I'm sure people in the mountain areas and more remote villages still use opium to kill the pain after a day of back breaking work.

Have had some very good MDMA (real stuff, damn I wish we could get some in Aus these days:( ) in Goa, for sure that will be around. Coke seems to be around a lot in India these days too. The growing Indian middle class no doubt fuelling demand.

You'll have an incredible time - India is an amazing place, I've been back so many times I've spent almost 3 years there over the past 20 years. The thing you really need to be careful of is the traffic if you'll be on a bike. India has the highest per capita road death toll in the world. Traffic has to be seen to be believed. Insane. Stay off the roads at night and make sure your horn is in good working order and as loud as hell!!!=D

cheers angeldust awsome post Yeah I am aware of the 2 months break in between visas, during this time I am intending to visit nepal, then I might make my way down to south east asia depending on what funds are like.

I may or may not be taking drugs there, im going to attempt to dicipline myself towards a healthier lifestyle with better food and daily yoga and im going to stay at ashrams (the first one has been organised) so i can learn the yoga asanas as its alot cheaper than going to classses daily here.

But just in case my plan goes to shit i just wanted to be geared with some info as old habits die hard.

Yeah, sometimes things are too tempting to pass up, especially at the prices they are compared to Melbourne =D You'll have a great time whatever you do.
I'm jealous you'll be doing the yoga thing seriously in ashrams, I've been to India so many times and I do yoga here, I'll basically swallow, snort or put anything in my veins, but the only drug that has ever been a real problem and I've found impossible to stop using is nicotine. So the ashrams and their no smoking rule makes it impossible for me to do it. Damn cigarettes :X

Whats the time of the year where everyone is smoking joints all over the street. Its a spiritual holiday or something like that. Lots of hippys smoking all over the place and the police don't interrupt this day or days if its peaceful.

Maha Shivratri (Great Night of Shiva 2011 date March 2-3)

great holiday =D

India is as trippy as fuck with or without drugs. cubensis mushies are pretty nice and readily available %). Nearly everyone smokes charas and opium / brown are available just be careful.

The temples of Khajuraho are worth the trip, as are the Jain temples near Mt Abu

and pakistan's pretty amazing too (dunno what it'd be like to visit now tbh...) =D

lol bikki my brother, you're so full of shit.

You get a free vacation coz we do too much heroin together, bastard.

Going home and nodding out in front of your mother, perhaps i should drop at home... maybe they'll send me to some drug haven of a country where i can cruise around on a scooter. lol.

Ahh scratch that idea, i woke up in hospital on sat morning, and no one would do shit for me when i called them... fuckn bastards (no it wasn't h related to anyone who asks)

No doubt you'll get high as. Defs no doubts there... speaking of which we got like 12 days to catch up properly - i'm not too busy on thursday, just some clothes shopping so hit me up bro.

^ HAHA. Lucky Bikki muncher is all I can say.

Kind of reminds of a friend who pushed the envelope way to far on some STRONG acid at a doof 5 years ago. He ended up having a psychotic episode, and his parents had to fly from china and look after him.

anyway, his parents end up buying him a brand new BMW, plus a ticket with spending money to Thailand so he can go party with his friends at the full moon party. go figure.

If that shit happened to me, I'd moved in to live with my parents and kept on a very tight leash. not that they could afford a BMW for me.
