well like the title says im about to start my 1st day of detox, im really not looking forward to it considering the amount ive been using to start with is just one of the things, im comin off a 1200mg a day(thats about 15x80mg tablets a day) dose of oxycontin and i been usin it for the last 3 years every day and i bben usin it the worst way possible through iv, im already startin to loose it at my wife cuz i put some measures in order to help me like i put away 4 tabs to help me through it if i get reall bad,but she has already taken them from me so that has really pissed me off,the thing that worries me is the only time ive successfully done it is when i got locked up last time, and every other time since then has just gone to shit... any help or advice would be really helpfull...

I can not express too strongly how necessary it is for you to go to a detox facility and do this the right way. This will only get you past the misery of the acute period, really you need to go to inpatient treatment after this period otherwise all of this will be for nothing and you'll go back very soon.

I promise that if you just try to kick at home and don't seek actual treatment, with the quantities you're using you are just going to put yourself through absolute hell and then relapse soon and it will all be for nothing.

If people could just kick for a few days then walk away unscathed no one would ever relapse. You are going to torture yourself with the acute withdrawal and the misery is going to continue ones the brutal Post-Acute Withdrawals (PAWS) set in.

You need to be in a hospital setting where they can monitor you and treat you with the medicines you need to get off this without absolutely torturing yourself and if you want to actually stay off the junk, you need to seek real treatment to address why you used and find ways to make changes in your life so that these changes will last.

I understand objections you may have because of the time and cost but look at the time you're putting in to using and how much you're spending on the drugs. There's always a way. I'm going into the treatment field so I'm more than passively familiar with your objection and what they entail so if you'd like more information about any of this, please feel free to contact me.

I never express necessity this strenuously, I generally just present the option but I firmly believe that this is your only viable option.

Ill have to agree with Cane you need to go to detox asap.. before you get the "fuck its"

Inpatient rehab would also be useful if you have the funds to support it or insurance..

Maybe check out some NA meetings if treatment is not at option

At home detox is not the worst thing but generally doesn't work as well...

If your serious about getting sober you need to make drastic changes in your life asap.. or you will end up in prison... 6 feet under.. or on the street..

god bless

ok im in about my 12th hour, i finished freezin my ass off under a blanket an spent an our in the shower tryin to warm up.....ill keep updated

Wow, good job brother on taking this step towards a better life.

Sometimes it's hard to see through that haze of opiate addiction and the extreme difficulty of withdrawal, but when I've gone through it myself, the support from my wife, family and friends was as indispensable as any professional help.

Best of luck, brother.

First off, I hope you kick this damned disease in the nuts, and move on to a better life. That being said...

I think you may be going about this the hardest way possible. I think a Suboxone taper would benefit you greatly, as would at least SOME medical attention during the acute stage. Yes, aftercare and meetings and whatnot will help afterward, but let's concentrate on the battle in front of us.

I think your wife needs to hold on to those tabs, but not throw them away. Let her dispense them when things get to the point of hell, in small, leveling doses. But this is pissing in the wind, amigo...I really think you need to get to detox. 1200mg per day is an extremely high dose. My habit is 10% of that and I am having a miserable time kicking. I don't even want to think about what you're about to go through...

I'm not trying to dishearten you, just being honest. Get some help, bro.

Yes, aftercare and meetings and whatnot will help afterward, but let's concentrate on the battle in front of us.

Nearly every thread posted here about this process ONLY focuses on the "battle" (acute withdrawal) and nearly every one of these people is posting here again within a couple weeks to a couple months months either having given up and are using again or are trying to quit again.

Unless you're willing to do what it takes and willing to make the necessary changes, there is absolutely no point in putting yourself through the misery of withdrawal... especially from a habit that big.

As a soon-to-be addictions counselor I'd rather see someone just continue using until they are going to fully commit to the process then needlessly suffer through brutal detox time and again only keep going back quickly.

Unless you make a plan for "reconstruction" you're going to lose the war even if you win this "battle".

EDIT:

OP, please don't use red font - its what the staff use to edit posts when necessary so to many here it will just appear that we are editing your posts. Please just use black font like everyone else, your posts will still get read by just as many people, I promise.

That attitude really bothered me when it was coming from a methadone counselor during my MMT.

when i first read 1200mg i was amazed at the level your on but then remembered when i was abusing oxycodone and iving 80mg oxycontins how much you can get threw.when i was iving 80mg oxycontins the high was insane but then after 2 hours i was needing to redose i wish you the best of luck i think for me it was harder coming of that stuff than my heroin habit as at least the h would keep me happy for 4 to 6 hours its good that you got someone with you. as stated by others you need a plan as its so easy to slip back to them oxycontins

this. it would be extremely dangerous for you to detox off that amount by yourself. i am talking severe dehydration and possibly seizures. you need to go to a hospital or at the very least a facility to monitor you.

^agreed. i would do this at a hospital or rehab facility....you were doing well over a gram of oxycodone a day. For your safety i would highly recommend doing this in a professional facility.

He could be fine at home. I cold turkeyed 800mg oxycodone and alot of hydromorphone (minimum 180 8s a month) home alone in my apartment with clonazepam/gabapenin/baclofen. Stay hydrated, eat healthy, be strong.

yeah, he COULD be, but why take such a drastic chance? 1200mg of oxycodone A DAY is legit fucking nuts.

Yeah without a doubt.. I agree with Cane. If you do not want to commit to a longer term re-hab (30+ days), which is what you need, I HIGHLY suggest you find a week long detox facility to go to, or if worst comes to worst admit yourself to the hospital. This way they can medically detox you over a week, and monitor you thru the worst part of it.

It is not going to be painless or easy no matter what way you do it, but doing it at home cold turkey, from that high of a dose, is without a doubt fucking insane. I hate to be a negative nancy but I just do not see a positive outcome to this situation. Even if you do make it through the physical withdrawals from this high a dose, the PAWS will be very very difficult to over-come, and this is what usually leads to re-lapse.

Getting professional help is not easy, I know, but it honestly is the best way to go and you will be glad that you did.

Regardless, I wish you the best of luck, and may god be with you on this journey to the bottom of hell.

The advice people give around here almost always steers people AWAY from detox and rehab facilities so that should say a lot if nearly every respondent here is telling you to go!

Wow 33 80s a day that is a truely huge habit. What is that like no prices a day(retorical)? You need to be at a hospital asap I really dont see you making it through this cold turkey. I strongly urge you to take Canes advice. If you can afford that kind of habit there is really no excuse to not seek profesional help.

jesus christ i have never heard of an oxy habit that big you must be a millionaire...

youre making the right choice. you gotta keep a stone cold mindset of youre never gonna use again. never even let the idea of "just 1 dose" enter your head. you must think of oxy as the devil and never ever let yourself idolize it.

You can't do that alone without relapsing. I know from personal experience and countless others who have failed the same way.

You need to not only get through the WD but also get a ton of support to make it through paws......plus at the levels your at its not even safe to drop off of without medical supervision.

Get help brother and good luck
