Opioids Codeine and Subutex

Is it true that SWIM has to wait 24 hours to take subutex after taking codeine? Or is that only subuxone?

SWIM took some codeine tonight, but was planning to use subutex tomorrow.
He decided to do a quick google and some sites claimed that one must wait 24 hours after last opiate dose to avoid sudden onset of WDs...

True?
 
First off, they don't do the whole SWIM thing here. So don't do that anymore, we all know who we're talking about on this forum.

Secondly, it's not necessarily 24 hours. The way to be safe is to wait until you start withdrawaling to take the Subutex. Myself, I can take Suboxone/Subutex within 6 hours of doing opiates but for some it's much much longer. I'd give it at least 12 hours just to be safe, but technically speaking you should be fine to take it as soon as you start to feel withdrawals.
 
Yeah, I've had friends that had to wait full 24 hours that are so surprised to see me take my subs a few hours after doing opiates. I don't know why, but opiates don't bind to my receptors for very long. I don't know if that has to do with IVing everything or what.

I'm not addicted and therefore I don't experience WDs at all.

So, for a non addict it is okay to take subutex 10-12 hours after taking codeine?
 
probably, codeine as an opiate is fairly weak, as long as your suboxone dose matches or is higher in equivalence to the amount of codeine you took, you shouldn't experience any discomfort. And if you do, it will only be for 5-10 minutes for your body to adjust to the lower level of opiates in your system

Don't like the sound of that 'probably'
However it must be said that I'm talking about subutex, not suboxone. Suboxone contains that naxo-something, which I know can induce WDs if IV-ed...
 
naloxone does absolutely nothing except cause side-effects, such as headaches, nausea, and sexual impotence. there is no difference in taking subutex and suboxone, mostly a price difference. What suboxone wants doctors and everyone to think is that it is "abuse proof" which is actually a crock. They do it so their "brand name" medication can sell for the astronomical prices it does.

so two questions:
if you are scared of going through "withdrawal," why don't you just wait? and,
what is there to be afraid of if it's just mild discomfort for 5-10 minutes

Well, 1 I can wait, but want to know if I need to, and 2 Is it really 5-10min or the entire duration of the sub (two days)?
 
Let me explain OP. If you don't have an opiate addiction and tolerance then you aren't going to go through withdrawals. Even a huge shot of narcan would just bring you back to baseline before your took the Codeine.

The reason people say don't take subutex right after other opiates is because bupe has a very high affinity to the mu opioid receptor and will overpower whatever else you took (often initiating withdrawal if it was a highly agonist chem and you are on opiates). Since this isn't the case for you, once the enjoyable effects of Codeine have warn off feel free to end them with bupe and get high off of that.

If I misunderstood OP (or anybody else sees something wrong with this), please do correct me.

Thank you, I know if I waited someone like you would reply. And you were right. Man, I love sub! Keep forgetting how good it is. Twenty times better than any H around these days.
 
But what about the reverse? I took a small amount of sub today, and my tolerance must have gone up a lot, cause I just got tired.
How long do I have to wait before I can take some codeine? 23h? 48h?
 
General rule of thumb when trying to take another opioid after taking bupe is to wait atleast 24hrs after the last dose to take bupe, but I always recommend waiting 36-48hrs. Any sooner and you risk precipitated withdrawal.. Doesn't matter if you're an addict or not.. Any sooner and you risk that happening
 
Swerlz speaks the truth, even if you don't go into precipitated withdrawal the remaining buprenorphine in your system will be blocking out some of the mu-opioid receptors and preventing the codeine (morphine by the time it gets to your brain) from working as well as it should.

I say 36-48 hours to be 100% safe and to make sure you're not wasting your codeine.

How can precipitated withdrawal happen to a non addict?
 
the bupe rips the codeine from the mu receptor.. essentially "pissing it off" and causing your body to freak out till the stronger of the two (bupe) takes ahold of the receptor

if you wanna test it, be my guest.. take your codeine and then in a few hours take the bupe and watch what happens..
 
Interesting. I've always assumed there isn't any time between getting the codeine ripped off and the bupe replaced and my own personal experience supports that. Only two incidents though so I suppose I could have just had bad timing (or should I say very good timing). How long do the negative symptoms typically last in the situation above?
 
From what i've heard it doesn't last very long (depends on your personal body chemistry, maybe 30min maybe more) but it's waaaayyyy more intense then actually w/ding

But I'm not suggestion to take codeine and then take sub in a few hours. I mean to take codeine after 24 hours, and that's it. I wont be back on sub until friday...
