safest benzo dosage?

So I am 5'4 and 97 lbs. I've been prescribed both xanax and klonopins as well as doxipin for sleep/ptsd. I was wondering what the safest dosage is for me. I have the 2 mg xanax and the 1 mg klonopins.

He has me take 3mgs of xanax every 3 hours and 1 mg of klonopin in the morning and 1mg at night.

Obviously I am abusing my dosages but I was wondering what the safest amount mg wise of benzos your body, or mine actually, can take without OD.

I am 24 days clean off heroin so I've been trying to use the benzos to help with the pre-existing anxiety and depression. :\

Sorry if this comes off dumb or obvious.

Help?

Thanks in advance

I would not take any doxepin.

Clonazepam and alprazolam are rather potent benzos; if you have never tried either before, I would start out at 0.125mg or 0.25mg for an initial dose.

Oh, the most you can take before ODing, is probably a lot. You could take a lot of clonazepam or alprazolam without ODing.

You'll experience tachyphylaxis before you get there though, unless you combine it with other CNS depressants.

Jeez thats a lot of benzos to be taking every day, your doc is just shooting you drugs huh..
Um yea benzos are really safe on their own.

you are going to have alot more problems than anxiety and depression if you keep taking this much, just saying...

i was on 6mg klonopin/xanax a day and i ended up in the ER three times and am only down to 3 mgs 7 months later

in a time of rage/depression i ate about 8-9 mg xanax and was fine but my tolerance was built up. benzos are not the answer for anxiety/depression. i would suggest asking your doctor for remeron. it's a tricylic anti depressant but binds to your adrenaline receptors acting as an antagonist. it's mainly used for borderline/bipolar/manic depressive but many studies have shown it works within days for anxiety ancd any other underlying issues you have. i just got prescribed it today. zoloft also helped within the first week for me. remeron will also help you gain weight (not much, ten lbs maybe oiver the course of months) which i'm sure your heroin use affected

How in the world did you end up in the ER? You have any idea what the LD50 is for benzodiazepines? You'd have to take at the least 3 bottles of 100 ct. 2mg Klonopin to OD. That's at the least. This is why so many depressed people fuck up when trying to commit suicide, they think a bottle of benzos will kill them and they just wake up from a blackout. Chances are you'd just black out before you would take enough Klonopin to put you into the ER. I'm assuming you ended up there because you did something stupid like getting hit by a car or jumping from your roof or either drinking with them (this will do it) or by taking other depressants/opiates on top of them (this will do it).

I was prescribed 8mg Klonopin/60mg Temazepam for 11 years and I'd take like 10 of my 2mg tablets to try and get a buzz but no dice.

Benzos should be used as only a short term treatment. Never long term. Although it is nearly impossible to achieve a toxic dose -- benzos cant poison you unless combined with other drugs -- the mental/emotional side effects and withdrawal make no benzo dose safe, in my opinion.

who said I ended up in the ER cause I tried killing myself? ignorant assumption don't you think? I went through serious WDs trying to come off it. anyone who's educated in drug use in anyway knows that benzos and anti depressant OD is probably the most pointless way to off yourself in the first place. I ended up in the ER because I couldn't breathe due to my tolerance building from .5 to 6mgs in 4 months and had to go without medicine

Be careful with the benzos and relapsing on your DOC. They always make me go on autopilot and I get myself into stupid situations...

Just don't mix with high doses of opiates or you could end up like Heath Ledger. But, that's a lot of benzo you got and you will likely get addicted as fuck. As 'scheduled' said above, there are worse issues to deal with when it comes to benzos than ODing.

I didn't say I thought you were trying to kill yourself lol I was just giving suicide attempts as an example to how hard it is to overdose.

Although benzo for the most part have a very high therapeutic index, they are not all the same and studies have shown significant differences in toxicity rating between each other. Studies have shown temazepam to be far more toxic in overdose than all other benzos, in fact, temazepam's fatal toxicity index (11.9) is higher than some tricyclic antidepressants and approximately equal to some barbiturates. Testimony to this is the fact that it has caused massive amounts of overdose and death all across Europe (in Sweden the drug was banned in 1992 due to the problem of abuse and deaths caused by the drug even when taken alone - there was a similar situation in Norway, but not as severe as Sweden and Norway too banned it and took it out of Class B to a Class A - it still is classed as such and the only benzo in Norway and Sweden that is classed as such).

Other benzos also can have higher toxicity indexes, nitrazepam, flunitrazepam, triazolam, and alprazolam have indexes that range from 6.4-8.0 (the 8.0 is flunitrazepam).

Oxazepam is the least toxic, with a fatal toxicity index of 2.3.

Benzo's as a whole group have a fatal toxicity index of 5.7 (which means most of the benzo's are in the range of 5.2-6.0), which means they have a very high therapeutic index and OD is extremely rare - but that's only as a group. The variations within them are highly different.

Sources for this can be found in this Australian study and this British study.

Sure Temazepam is the most toxic but it would bottles for you to overdose. People that overdose are those that combine with other drugs like heroin is very commonly used with Temazepam. LD50 is incredibly high. The LD50 temazepam is 1833mg/kg (rats) and diazepam 1240mg/kg (rats) Imagine how high it would be for humans. Near impossible to overdose. And remember that these are numbers for 50% of overdose.

True many of the OD's were temazepam in combo with opiates or alcohol, but still the rate of temazepam deaths when taken alone was extremely alarming. The rate of temazepam deaths (taken alone) in the UK was higher than cocaine's rate in some years back in the 90's. The same was true in Sweden and Norway and Australia and wherever else that temazepam was highly abused drug. I'm going to assume results of OD situations in some Asian countries to be the same.

Also, morphine (IV) LD50 in rats 223mg/kg (which is very high). An opiate naive taking that amount would OD and die. You can't always rely on the LD50 studies because they are conducted on rats and mice. It's always very different with humans (also there is a lot of variation in metabolism rates and such with humans).

I have used benzos before but never more than 4-5? mgs though. Why should I not take doxepin? Doxepin has helped me tremendously with my sleeping issues. I do feel depressed a lot more often and the benzos aren't seeming to help or do much for my anxiety so I guess its safe to say I've developed a tolerance. I know taking benzos a lot can cause you to become depressed so what anti depressants do you guys suggest? My doctor put me on effexor for about a week or two and then told me stop taking them. I don't know what to do. I don't want to be on drugs for the rest of my life, I want to live again.

3 mg of alprazolam every 3 hours? That is a ton. That is 24 mg of alprazolam a day? Plus, the clonazepam?

Yeah, she may be clean from dope but she's facing an opiate addiction that will become much worse. I imagine you take the Xanax 5 or 6 times a day which is (at least) 15-18 and then 2mg of clonazepam as well

You know that the max prescribed dose for alprazolam is 8mg right?

That doctor must be a quack, 24 mg of alprazolam daily is just insane. That is almost 10 x what my psych scripts me.
