TALLAHASSEE -- The white powder marketed as bath salts under names like Ivory Wave, Vanilla Sky and Purple Rain mimics cocaine and LSD when snorted. And as of Wednesday, it's illegal in Florida.

Attorney General Pam Bondi issued an emergency rule that makes possession or distribution of the powder a third-degree felony punishable by one to five years behind bars. The rule will remain in place for 90 days, and legislators plan to pass a law making the substance illegal permanently.

In one case, a man under the influence who had ingested the drug displayed near "superhuman strength'' and required seven officers to subdue him, McKeithen said.

"He literally tore the radar unit out of the vehicle with his teeth,'' McKeithen said.

In another instance, a woman tried to chop her mother's head off with a machete, thinking she was a monster, he said.

Bondi said she wanted to get the emergency order in place before spring breakers hit Panhandle beaches, where use of the substance is prevalent.

"It also makes you think that you can fly and there are a lot of balconies out there,'' Bondi said as she held up packets of the stuff.

"We need to act quickly to make sure kids are protected.''

They have used this same playbook for years and its all bullshit. This article is fucking terrible it doesnt even list the specific chemicals that are banned. Why does our media act like the propaganda arm for the DEA? Im happy newspapers are going the way of the dinosaur with shit reporting like this I say good fucking riddance.

Hey, your impressed (by us) perspective counts in our ratings you fucker! Get back here, sit down, and read an entire paragraph of bullshit!!!

It's not like the banning of this so called "fake cocaine" is going to do anthything to protect the children as this article claims. Here in florida the streets are flooded with real cocaine.

It also makes you think that you can fly and there are a lot of balconies out there.

That's years of judicial expertise speaking.

I can confirm that there are indeed many balconies out there.

Bill Hicks said:
"Today a young man on acid … thought he could fly … jumped out of a building … what a tragedy!" What a dick. He's an idiot. If he thought he could fly, why didn't he take off from the ground first? Check it out? You don't see geese lined up to catch elevators to fly south; they fly from the fucking ground. He's an idiot. He's dead. Good! We lost a moron? Fucking celebrate. There's one less moron in the world.

more like pam blondi amirite? ;)

lol that was how my mind read it the first time because of the pic

lol I can't believe they still reuse that old line on new drugs

Since when can a State Attorney General issue a rule declaring that possessing something legal is a felony?

I thought lawmaking power was reserved to the legislative branch of government. An Attorney General is part of the executive branch.

I don't understand how this can action can be legal. How can one politician immediately declare something a Schedule 1 controlled substance with no discussion or grace period? Think about it. What if people were abusing nutmeg to get high instead of these products and they filed an "emergency ban" on that? You would have 9 out of 10 households suddenly chargeable with a third-degree felony with a five year prison sentence! Every grocery store owner would suddenly be guilty of a second-degree felony and could be sentenced to 15 years in prison!

I have never used these products and don't intend to, but I strongly disagree with labeling people criminal for their personal choices, especially through the use of sneaky (and potentially illegal) tactics like this that criminalize large numbers of people and store owners without warning.

One minute people are law abiding citizens, then the next minute they're felons that can be sentenced to 15 years.. all because of the actions of a single State Attorney General. I've never heard of anything like this before. It's preposterous!

^ and ^^^: It's an emergency 90-day ban. Florida's constitution provides the attorney general with the power to do this. The congress still has to pass a law on it if it's to become permanent.

(how do the little ^s work? "^" means 1 post above and "^^" means 2, right?)

Meanwhile on every street corner I can still legally buy enough oxycodone to anaesthetize a family of wookies. Florida makes no sense.

This has been on the local news almost daily. It went from no coverage whatsoever to OMG KILLER ACIDCOKE in one week.

Its amazing how every drug that isnt approved by the FDA makes users think they can fly.

"If he thought he could fly why didnt he take off from the ground first?"

In another instance, a woman tried to chop her mother's head off with a machete, thinking she was a monster, he said.

Satan is in the house.....and he turned my mom into a bull....

Any stimulant has the potential to make someone crazy as fuck. It comes with the territory after you've been awake the better part of a week.

Why does our media act like the propaganda arm for the DEA?
it's in corporate media's interest, as entities comprising absurd amounts of accumulated wealth, to sacrifice journalism and instead attempt to "pacify the population"

everything is going great, in any country where the leader is able to keep his people down, and keep his economy dependent on the international money fund and the U.S. at least, according to corporate media and government statements.
